Toronto

Toronto (ⁱ/tÉ™Ë?rÉ’ntoÊŠ, -tÉ™/,local /tÉ™Ë?rÉ’noÊŠ, Ë?trÉ’-/) is the most populous city in Canada, the provincial capital of Ontario, and the centre of the Greater Toronto Area, the most populous metropolitan area in Canada. In the 2011 census, Toronto had a population of 2,615,060, making it the fourth most populous city in North America, after Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles. An alpha global city, Toronto is an international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture, and is widely recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Aboriginal peoples have inhabited the area now known as Toronto for thousands of years. The urban history of the city dates back to 1787, when British officials negotiated the Toronto Purchase with the Mississaugas of the New Credit. They established the Town of York, and later designated it as the capital of Upper Canada. During the War of 1812, the town was the site of the Battle of York and suffered heavy damage by U.S. troops. York was renamed and incorporated as the City of Toronto in 1834, and became the capital of the province of Ontario in 1867. The original borders of Toronto were expanded through amalgamation with surrounding municipalities at various times in its history, the results of which can been seen in the 140 independently unique and clearly defined official neighbourhoods that make up the city.

Monster Energy

Monster Energy is an energy drink introduced by Hansen Natural Corp. (HANS) in April 2002. The regular flavor comes in a black can with a green tear-shaped M logo. The company is also known for supporting many extreme sports events such as BMX, Motocross, Speedway, skateboarding and snowboarding, as well as eSports. In addition, Monster Energy promotes a number of music bands around the world, like Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive, Maximum the Hormone and Shinedown.

There are 34 different drinks under the Monster brand in North America, including its core Monster Energy line, Java Monster, Extra Strength, Import, Rehab and Muscle Monster.

Advertising

Monster Energy is advertised mainly through sponsorship of sporting events, including motocross, BMX, mountain biking, snowboarding, skateboarding, car racing, speedway, and also through sponsorship of eSports events. In 2006, Caleb (Strongjaw) Johnstone Corporation announced a distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch in the U.S. and Grupo Jumex in Mexico.

Detour Gold

Detour Gold Corp. is a Canadian intermediate gold mining company with a primary focus on the successful ramp up of its flagship asset - the Detour Lake Mine, located in the mining-friendly territory of northeastern Ontario. Most of the company's employees are from the Cochrane and Timmins, Ontario area. Detour has continued to strive to maximize local employment in the communities surrounding the mine operation and with their Aboriginal partner communities, offering both job opportunities and training. The Detour Lake project was purchased from Pelangio Mines Ltd. in 2007 (the option property from Goldcorp in 2008). Detour Gold's proven gold reserves of 15.6 million ounces is comparable to that of Canada's Osisko Mining, whose main property is also in the vicinity of the Abitibi gold belt.

The company acquired the asset in 2006 from Pelangio Mines Ltd. for $75 million just before it went public on the Toronto Stock Exchange on January 31, 2007. Initially the mine was assessed as having an indicated mineral resource of 3.4 million ounces. In September 2009 a study suggested that the mine was capable of producing gold at a rate of 560,000 ounces per year (that was raised to 649,000 by mid-2010).

Warped Tour

The Warped Tour is a traveling rock festival that has toured the United States (sometimes including one or more stops in Canada) annually each summer since 1995. It is the largest traveling music festival in the United States, and the longest-running touring music festival in North America. The first Warped Tour took place in 1995, and the skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans became the main sponsor of the tour starting with the second tour in 1996, when it became known as the Vans Warped Tour. Although Vans has continued to be the main sponsor and lend its name to the festival, other sponsors have also participated, with stages or other aspects of the festival sometimes being named after them.

Warped Tour was conceived in 1995 as an eclectic alternative rock festival, but in 1996 began focusing on punk rock music. Although it has continued to be known primarily as a punk rock festival, it has included acts of diverse genres over the years, including hip hop artists starting in 1999.

Gold Corporation

Gold Corporation is a company owned by the Western Australian Government, established by the Gold Corporation Act 1987, with a mandate to operate the Perth Mint, to market Australian gold and other related activities.
