The Big Town is a 1987 film drama about a young man who comes to the big city to work as a professional gambler, in the process becoming romantically involved with two women—one of whom is already married. The film was directed by Ben Bolt and Harold Becker and it stars Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, and Tommy Lee Jones.

Plot

In 1957, J. C. Cullen is a small-town crapshooter who heads to Chicago, Illinois to seek his fortune. There he becomes the pawn of two high-rolling professional gamblers, Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. He later gets mixed-up in a revenge scheme cooked up by Lorry Dane, the embittered stripper wife of strip-joint owner George Cole. Before he knows what's happened, Cullen is embroiled in two torrid romances: one with Dane and the other with nice girl Aggie Donaldson. He also nearly loses his life by ending up in the middle of a deadly feud between Edwards, Cole, and Phil Carpenter, the man Mr. Edwards accuses of causing him to lose his eyesight.

The Big Town is a 1925 American short silent comedy film directed by Robert F. McGowan. It was the 34th Our Gang short subject released.

Plot

The gang is playing around the railroad yard when a fire breaks out. They hide in a railroad car and get trapped. The next morning they find out they've arrived in New York City. They soon are enjoying the sites, visiting the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and taking a sightseeing bus for a joyride, where they are finally caught by the police.

A police officer is assigned to take the gang back home on a train. They scatter the entomologist's bugs around the sleeper car during the night, and order exotic foods for breakfast. They eventually arrive back home where their mothers greet them with a spanking.

Big Town is a popular long-running radio drama series which was later adapted to both film and television and a comic book published by DC Comics.

Radio

The radio program aired from October 19, 1937, to June 25, 1952. Produced by William N. Robson and Crane Wilbur. Written by Jerry McGill. Theme music by Fran Frey. Edward G. Robinson had the lead role of Steve Wilson, crusading editor of the "Illustrated Press", from 1937 to 1942. Claire Trevor was Wilson's society editor sidekick with Ona Munson taking over that role in 1940. Edward J. Pawley portrayed Steve Wilson from 1943 until 1952 when Walter Greaza was heard as Wilson in the final episodes in this radio drama series. Fran Carlon played Pawley's sidekick and "star reporter", Lorelei Kilbourne, from 1942-1952. During the period in which Pawley starred, Big Town was rated No. 1 among all of the reporter-type drama series on radio. It was also rated in the top 12 among all radio programs broadcast and had a listening audience rated between 10 and 20 million people.

Big Town is a 1947 American crime film directed by William C. Thomas and written by Daniel Mainwaring and Maxwell Shane. The film stars Phillip Reed, Hillary Brooke, Robert Lowery, Veda Ann Borg, Byron Barr and Charles Arnt. The film was released on May 23, 1947, by Paramount Pictures.
