Love Is Dead is the debut studio album by Estonian recording artist Kerli. It was released in the United States on July 8, 2008 by Island Records.
Love Is Dead is an alternative rock record which incorporates a variety of genres, including electronic, goth rock, trip hop and industrial music. Its sound has been noted to contain influences from the music of artists such as Natasha Bedingfield and Björk, while it has been described as both uplifting and dark. The album received critical acclaim, with reviewers lauding its uniqueness and composition, while praising Kerli's vocals. The album peaked at number 2 on the U.S. Heatseekers Albums chart, which measures the popularity of albums by new artists. It also reached number 126 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
Kerli began writing for her debut album at the age of 14 but after two failed recording contracts with Universal Republic Records and Stolen Transmission, she spent two years in Sweden writing music with other writers at the request of a Swedish publisher who took an interest in her music. She later caught the attention of Island Records and landed an audition with L.A. Reid who signed her. During the audition, which was Kerli's first visit to the United States, she later remarked she was "so out of it" which came off as rude, saying "I guess he liked that I wasn't kissing his ass".
Love Is Dead is the sixth album by the Berkeley, California punk rock band The Mr. T Experience, released in 1996 by Lookout! Records. It was the band's second album as a three-piece and first with bassist Joel Reader and drummer Jim "Jym" Pittman, replacing Aaron Rubin and Alex Laipeneiks, respectively, who had departed the group the previous year.
The song "I Just Wanna Do it With You" was used in the soundtrack to the 1996 movie Glory Daze starring Ben Affleck and was included on the film's soundtrack album, along with the song "Even Hitler Had a Girlfriend" from the band's 1993 album Our Bodies Our Selves. During the film's party scene, the main characters also perform as a band a cover of The Mr. T Experience song "Now We Are Twenty-One" from their 1988 album Night Shift at the Thrill Factory.
All songs written and composed by Dr. Frank except where noted.
Verse1
I burned for you
broke bread with you
I even gave you all my loot
At home for you
no calls from you
I feel like you
done worked a root
I took the bull
You took your time
Made love to me
You blew my mind
I pulled from you
You got me high
It's over now
and I'll tell you why
Hook
I know what love is
I know what love is
I know what love is
Love Love Love Love
Verse 2
I cared for you
I cried for you
I let you meet
my mama too
All lies from you
Broken in two
Wanted to leave
I stayed for you
So fool for you
On pause for you
Said it was love
Now what's the truth?
Confused by you
You're attitude
These silly games
You're changing moods
Hook
I know what love is
I know what love is
I know what love is
Love Love Love Love
I know I
I know I
I know I
I know I
Love Is
Love Is
Bridge:
Yeah Yeah Yeah Oh Yeah
Well I'm Frontin and I'm Grinning
But I really can't take no more
Vamp:
You don't call me anymore
It's really such a bore
Alone I am sleeping
but if love is such a chore
Then baby please ignore
