CONCACAF Champions League

The CONCACAF Champions League is an annual continental football club competition organized by CONCACAF for the top football clubs in North America. It is the most prestigious international club competition in North American football. The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League qualifies for the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament is officially known as the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League due to sponsorship reasons.

The tournament consists of two stages. The group stage is played from August to October, in which there are eight groups of three teams each. The eight group winners enter the knockout phase, which spans March through May. Unlike its European and South American counterparts, the winners of the CONCACAF Champions League do not automatically qualify for the following season's competition.

The competition was originally known as the CONCACAF Champions' Cup when it was first organized in 1962. The title has been won by 28 different clubs, 17 of which have won the title more than once. Mexican clubs have accumulated the highest number of victories, with 31 titles in total. The second most successful league has been Costa Rica's Primera División with six titles in total. Mexican sides América and Cruz Azul are the most successful clubs in the competition's history, having won the tournament six times, followed by Pachuca with four titles. The most successful non-Mexican club is Saprissa of Costa Rica with three titles. The only teams to successfully defend the trophy are Cruz Azul, Pachuca, and Monterrey. The current champions of the competition are América, after defeating Montreal Impact 5–3 on aggregate.

Seattle Sounders FC

Seattle Sounders FC is an American professional soccer club based in Seattle, Washington. The Sounders compete in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was established on November 13, 2007, as an MLS expansion team, making it the 15th team in the league and the third Seattle soccer club to share the name.

The club's majority owner is Adrian Hanauer, and its minority owners are Joe Roth, Paul Allen and Drew Carey. Two-time MLS Cup winner Sigi Schmid is the club's head coach. The Sounders play their home matches at CenturyLink Field. Along with several organized groups, a 53-member marching band called 'Sound Wave' supports the club at each home match. Seattle competes with rival MLS clubs Portland and Vancouver in the Cascadia Cup.

The Sounders played its inaugural match on March 19, 2009, winning 3–0 over the New York Red Bulls. Seattle has set MLS records for average attendance, led the league in season ticket sales, and qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs in each of its first seven seasons. The Sounders have led MLS attendance since their inaugural season, consistently drawing an average of 50-65% more than the next highest-drawing team in the league, LA Galaxy. The club's announced attendance average was 43,144 in 2012. The team's players have included United States men's national soccer team captain Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins, Academy product and current Sunderland player DeAndre Yedlin, striker Fredy Montero, and Osvaldo Alonso.

Police United FC (Belize)

Police United FC is a Belizean football team which currently competes in the Premier League of Belize.

The team is based in Belmopan. Their home stadium is Isidoro Beaton Stadium. Part of the team are made up of police officers from Belize.

Club Deportivo Plaza Amador

Plaza Amador is a Panamanian football club, that currently plays in Liga Panameña de Fútbol. It is one of the oldest teams in Panama.

History

The Social Club and Plaza Amador were founded in 1955 by a legendary figure of Panamanian sports, León Cocoliso Tejada (1927–1982), whom through the years developed a team designed to educate and train players that brought them and the team from inferior divisions up to the first division. After León's death, Andrés Villa, Daniel Vàsquez and Enrique Cajar gathered the colors of the club and returned it to the first division, where they won the distritorial championship, Copa JVC and the first ANAPROF championship.

The club's colors are the three colors of the Panamanian flag: red, white and blue. Plaza Amador was named after the first President of the Republic, Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero.

W Connection F.C.

W Connection Football Club is a football club from Trinidad and Tobago, which currently plays in the TT Pro League. The club plays its home games at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. The club's offices are based at the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad and Tobago and sponsors the Wanderers Cricket Club, formerly sponsored by Caroni Limited.

History

The team was founded as W Connection Sports Club in 1986, as a "fete match" team, by brothers David John Williams and Patrick John Williams in San Fernando. Upon the creation of the TT Pro League, W Connection F.C. was officially founded in 1999, and promptly joined the nascent league. In 1999, their first season, the club finished third in the league, while winning the FA Trophy. Even though the club had a successful first season, the team would see even better times the next two campaigns, by winning the league in consecutive seasons.

The Savonetta Boys have also had success in domestic cups. W Connection have won the First Citizens Cup six years in the cup's nine year existence. On September 26, 2008, in an exciting final of the cup, against Joe Public, W Connection used penalty kicks to claim the victory 6–5, after the match ended level 2–2, to claim their fifth consecutive title.
