EEG: Visually evoked potentials (VEP)
http://biosignals.berndporr.me.uk
Here we demonstrate how visually evoked potentials are measured. EEG is a very small signal buried into facial muscle activity, movement artefacts and enviromental noise. To distinguish what is actually EEG and what is noise we evoke EEG changes with the help of a repetitive stimulus. These stimuli are then added up and form the VEP.

Evoked Potential Testing at the National Dizzy and Balance Center
Auditory Evoked Potential (AEP) testing is used to determine if specific parts of the vestibular system are functioning properly. Evoked potentials, sometimes called evoked responses, record the amount of time the nerves take to respond to electrical and sound stimulations. This can be useful in the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and many other neurological disorders. It can also be used to rule

It can also be used to rule out the presence of disease or damage to the central nervous system.
The central nervous system consists of the spinal cord and the brain. There are two sets of circuitry that travel through the spine to the brain. The first set sends signals to the brain, the second sends signals from the brain. When certain types of symptoms present themselves, an evoked potential study can be performed to measure the health of this circuitry, or the VIIIth nerve pathway. An evoked potential will allow you to see if there has been a "block" along the pathways that lead to the brain. Common "blocks" include tumors, infections, and degeneration to the nerve itself.

In case you are curious, this is what a Visual Evoked Potential test screen can look like during a VEP test. I have also discovered that it can reveal scotomas if present in the field of view covered by the flashing screen. In a VEP test you'd sit about a metre away but if you want to use it to locate a scotoma and it is in your peripheral vision, you may need to come much closer (keep one eye covered) and remain focussed on yellow dot.. Scotomas appears as grey 'clouds' devoid of any chequer pattern. Hold your finger in front of cloud and it will disappear! You cant do your own VEP test with this animation because you need to be wired up to capture its effect on the brain waves.
