The first legendary emperor of Japan l Emperor Jimmu l Yamato dynasty
The first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, personal name Kamu-yamato Iware-biko no Mikoto, 660–585 BC (75 years), was the first legendary emperor of Japan. His accession is traditionally dated as 660 BC. In Japanese mythology, he was a descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu, through her grandson Ninigi, as well as a descendant of the storm god Susanoo. He launched a military expedition from Hyuga near the Seto Inland Sea, captured Yamato, and established this as his center of power. In modern Japan, Jimmu's legendary accession is marked as National Foundation Day on February 11. In Japanese mythology, the Age of the Gods is the period before Jimmu's accession. The story of Jimmu seems to rework legends associated with the Ōtomo clan. and its function was to establish that clan's links to the rulin...

How Did Japan’s Imperial Family Last So Long?
How did Japan’s Imperial Family last 1500 years? Let’s explore the reasons for why this royal family lasted for so long, through numerous wars and political turmoil. Did they have an iron grip on the country? Hardly. The Japanese Emperor had little power throughout Japan’s history. So why? Watch and find out!
NOTES:
1. I started with Emperor Kinmei because he's the first emperor with verified dates. There existed emperors before him, but you can't trust the dates of their reigns. Therefore, you can probably add a few hundred years to that 1500 number.
2. Correction: Emperor Jimmu was said to be the great-great-great-grandson of Amaterasu, not the great-grandson.

Emperors of Japan of All Time
This video shows a timeline history of the emperors of Japan.
This list of Emperors of Japan presents the traditional order of succession. Records of the reigns of the Emperors of Japan are compiled according to the traditional Japanese calendar. In the nengō system which has been in use since the late seventh century, years are numbered using the Japanese era name and the number of years which have taken place since that nengō era started.
Numbers are each emperor's reign.
Emperor Kōan, the emperor who invented the longest rule, is said to have ruled for 101 years.
This is surprising and he is known among historians as "the legendary emperor" because his actual existence is being discussed.
Have fun!

The story of Jimmu seems to rework legends associated with the Ōtomo clan. and its function was to establish that clan's links to the ruling family, just as those of Suijin arguably reflect Mononobe tales and the legends in Ōjin's chronicles seem to derive from Soga clan traditions. Jimmu figures as a direct descendant of the sun goddess, Amaterasu via the side of his father, Ugayafukiaezu. Amaterasu had a son called Ame no Oshihomimi no Mikoto and through him a grandson named Ninigi-no-Mikoto. She sent her grandson to the Japanese islands where he eventually married Konohana-Sakuya-hime. Among their three sons was Hikohohodemi no Mikoto, also called Yamasachi-hiko, who married Toyotama-hime. She was the daughter of Ryūjin, the Japanese sea god. They had a single son called Hikonagisa Takeugaya Fukiaezu no Mikoto. The boy was abandoned by his parents at birth and consequently raised by Tamayori-hime, his mother's younger sister. They eventually married and had four sons. The last of these, Kamu-yamato Iware-biko no mikoto, became Emperor Jimmu.

Hey guys! So...I have a problem. I love creating these videos for you, and I want to put out videos more often than once every two weeks. Problem is, they take too long to make, and the culprit is by far the art. I love drawing but boy does it take forever. I’m trying something out starting with this video...
This video is different from previous ones in that it has less art. I will start to do more videos about smaller topics, with less art (couldn’t help but draw SOME art...), which I can put out faster. It will also allow for more variety of content. But don’t worry, this buys me time to continue the History of Japan series, which will have more art than these topical videos. Let me know what you think! Also, give me some topics you want discussed!

The first emperor is known as Emperor Jimmu claimed to be a descendent from the sun goddess Amaterasu, was the founder of the Imperial House of Japan, also known as the Yamato Dynasty. He is the first verifiable Japanese emperor. However, he and the 29 first emperors are known as the "Legendary Emperors" as there is little evidence for their claimed existence.
Every emperor except the current living emperors is listed with their posthumous name. A posthumous name is an honorary name given to for example royalty after the person's death. This video will include every posthumous name of every emperor except current living emperors.
Empress Kōgyoku / Saimei was called as shown in the video Empress Kōgyoku during her first reign (642-645). During her second reign (655-661) she was known under a different name as shown in the video Empress Saimei.
Empress Kōken / Shōtoku was called as shown in the video Empress Kōken during her first reign (749-758). During her second reign (764-770) she was called Empress Shōtoku.
Emperor Antoku and Emperor Go-Toba were both proclaimed emperors by different warring clans, namely Minamoto and Taira. During the war, Emperor Antoku was killed, leaving Emperor Go-Toba as the undisputed emperor.
Some of the "Northern Court" Emperors also known as the Ashikaga Pretenders or Northern Pretenders is excluded from this video because of their pretender status.
The Go- part of some names like Emperor Go-Kashiwabara is some time shorten to just Emperor Kashiwabara in order to save some space between different picture frames.

Have fun!
