Bombay Time

Bombay Time was one of the two official time zones established in British India in 1884. The time zone was established during the International Meridian Conference held at Washington, D.C in the United States in 1884. It was then decided that India would have two time zones, with Calcutta (now Kolkata) using the 90th meridian east and Bombay (now Mumbai) the 75th meridian east. Bombay Time was set at 4 hours and 51 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

However, Bombay Time was difficult to convert to Indian Standard Time (IST) after it was adopted on 1 January 1906 as the official time zone of India. During the conversion in Mumbai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, a prominent freedom fighter of the Indian independence movement was put on trial in a bombing case. With public sentiment against the government, prominent barrister Pherozeshah Mehta argued against the change. He managed to stall proceedings in the Bombay Municipal Corporation for a few days by arguing that the government did not take the people into confidence. Faced with rising public resentment over the trial, the government shelved the conversion, and Bombay Time was maintained until 1955.

Mumbai

Mumbai (/mʊmˈbaɪ/; also known as Bombay, the official name until 1995) is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India and the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million. Along with the neighbouring regions of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world and the seсond most populous metropolitan area in India, with a population of 20.7 million as of 2011. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. In 2009, Mumbai was named an alpha world city. It is also the wealthiest city in India, and has the highest GDP of any city in South, West, or Central Asia. Mumbai has the highest number of billionaires and millionaires among all cities in India.

The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies. For centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company when in 1661 King Charles II married the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza, and as part of her dowry Charles received the ports of Tangier and seven islands of Bombay. During the mid-18th century, Bombay was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project, which undertook reclamation of the area between the seven islands from the sea. Along with construction of major roads and railways, the reclamation project, completed in 1845, transformed Bombay into a major seaport on the Arabian Sea. Bombay in the 19th century was characterized by economic and educational development. During the early 20th century it became a strong base for the Indian independence movement. Upon India's independence in 1947 the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new state of Maharashtra was created with Bombay as the capital.

Southside of Bombay

Southside of Bombay were a Māori band. They are best known for their single 'What's the Time, Mr Wolf?' which was originally released in 1992. The song was re-released following its appearance in the 1994 film and on the soundtrack of Once Were Warriors, after which it became second best selling New Zealand single that year.

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai (born 12 September 1988) is an Indian Bollywood film and television actress. She started her television career as the lead protagonist in successful TV drama Kasamh Se on Zee TV. She made her Bollywood career with the 2008 film Rock On!!. Her other notable features includes Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Bol Bachchan (2012) and I, Me Aur Main (2013). She is also the endorser, spokesperson, brand ambassador and the face of Goa Tourism and Neutrogena products in India. Desai also a brand ambassador of Luxlyra.

Early life and background

Prachi Desai was born in Surat, Gujarat to Niranjan Desai and Ameeta Desai. She has one sister named Esha Desai.

Desai has studied in St. Joseph Convent, Panchgani and completed her schooling till ninth grade in Surat. She has completed her higher studies in Sinhagad College in Pune.

Career

2006 brought a new turn in Prachi's life when she got selected to play the lead role in Ekta Kapoor's television drama Kasamh Se, she was cast as Bani, opposite TV actor Ram Kapoor.

Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi (pronounced [ɪmraːn ˈɦaːʃmiː]; born Emraan Anwar Hashmi; 24 March 1979) is an Indian film actor who appears in Hindi language films. Hashmi has received three Filmfare Award nominations, and has established himself as a leading contemporary actor of Hindi cinema.

Before starting his career as an actor, Hashmi worked as an assistant director for the 2002 horror film Raaz. The following year, he made his acting debut with a leading role in the crime thriller Footpath and followed it with the erotic thriller Murder (2004), which emerged as a box office success.
