Mongolian primarily means "of or pertaining Mongolia", a landlocked country in East and Central Asia that borders Russia to the north and People's Republic of China to the south, east and west.
Mongolian is a Unicode block containing characters for dialects of Mongolian, Manchu, and Sibe languages. It is traditionally written in vertical lines Top-Down, right across the page, although the Unicode code charts cite the characters rotated to horizontal orientation.
The traditional or classical Mongolian alphabet, sometimes called Hudum 'traditional' in Oirat in contrast to the Clear script (Todo 'exact'), is the original form of the Mongolian script used to write the Mongolian language. It does not distinguish several vowels (o/u, ö/ü, final a/e) and consonants (t/d, k/g, sometimes ž/y) that were not required for Uyghur, which was the source of the Mongol (or Uyghur-Mongol) script. The result is somewhat comparable to the situation of English, which must represent ten or more vowels with only five letters and uses the digraphth for two distinct sounds. Ambiguity is sometimes prevented by context, as the requirements of vowel harmony and syllable sequence usually indicate the correct sound. Moreover, as there are few words with an exactly identical spelling, actual ambiguities are rare for a reader who knows the orthography.
Letters have different forms depending on their position in a word: initial, medial, or final. In some cases, additional graphic variants are selected for visual harmony with the subsequent character.
Rider or horseman is an important symbol in heraldry especially in Eastern Europe. It firstly appeared in the 13th century on the old Russian stamps, coins and seals as a symbolic representation of the ruling knyaz. Since the second half of the 15th century the rider striking a dragon with spear became the coat of arms of Russia especially Moscow along with the double-headed eagle. In the 16th century the shield with the rider were placed on the eagle's chest.
Another type of a rider were Lithunian Pahonia/Vytis which appeared nearly at the same time as the Russian one. But main differences are the absence of a dragon, a sword instead of a spear and the direction of the rider (to the right).
