Dr. Walter D Palmer a long time activist, community organizer, entrepreneur, attorney and educator founded a charter school and due to his reputation in the Philadelphia community the school has grown exponentially every year. Now the Philadelphia School Reform Commission is attempting to shut the school down. The Walter D Palmer Leadership Learning Charter School has about 1,350 students in two schools and the SRC says they will not pay for that many students. The SRC is withholding funds and the matter has gone to court and is still pending. The School District's (SRC) CEO Dr William Hite reneged on a written promise to keep the school open. The PDP-LLCS has made overtures to the SCR and at a 09-02-14 press conference founder Walter D. Palmer introduced their new Chief Academic Officer and their CFO to show their changes to comply with some of the stipulations imposed upon them by the SRC. The school opened on schedule as promised despite threats to shut the school down and revoke its charter and many of the children in the lower school attended. the press conference.
