Samsung Gear

Samsung Gear is a line of wearable computing devices produced by Samsung Electronics. The line was first introduced with an Android smartwatch in September 2013 as a spin-off of its Galaxy smartphone and tablet range, and expanded at Mobile World Congress 2014 with a successor, the Tizen-based Gear 2, and the Gear Fit activity tracker.

Samsung Gear S

Samsung Gear S is a smartwatch designed and marketed by Samsung Electronics. It was announced on August 28, 2014, as the successor to the Samsung Gear 2 and was released on November 7, 2014.

Hardware

The Gear S is similar to older versions of the Samsung Galaxy Gear although it does come with some new additions. The Samsung Gear S has a curved 2.0 inch Super AMOLED screen at 360×480 pixels. It has a Dual Core 1.0 GHz processor and runs the Tizen operating system. As with the Galaxy Gear 2, the Gear S includes 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage as well as a 300 mAh Li-ion battery.

Using a 3G module the watch itself is able to connect to the internet, make phone calls and send SMSs without needing a phone. It was the first wearable device to include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity.

Gear

A gear or cogwheel is a rotating machine part having cut teeth, or cogs, which mesh with another toothed part to transmit torque, in most cases with teeth on the one gear being of identical shape, and often also with that shape on the other gear. Two or more gears working in a sequence (train) are called a gear train or, in many cases, a transmission; such gear arrangements can produce a mechanical advantage through a gear ratio and thus may be considered a simple machine. Geared devices can change the speed, torque, and direction of a power source. The most common situation is for a gear to mesh with another gear; however, a gear can also mesh with a linear toothed part, called a rack, thereby producing translation instead of rotation.

The gears in a transmission are analogous to the wheels in a crossed belt pulley system. An advantage of gears is that the teeth of a gear prevent slippage.

When two gears mesh, and one gear is bigger than the other (even though the size of the teeth must match), a mechanical advantage is produced, with the rotational speeds and the torques of the two gears differing in an inverse relationship.

Samsung

Samsung (Hangul: 삼성; hanja: 三星; Korean pronunciation: [sʰamsʰʌŋ]) is a South Korean multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul. It comprises numerous subsidiaries and affiliated businesses, most of them united under the Samsung brand, and is the largest South Korean chaebol (business conglomerate).

Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and retail. Samsung entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s and the construction and shipbuilding industries in the mid-1970s; these areas would drive its subsequent growth. Following Lee's death in 1987, Samsung was separated into four business groups – Samsung Group, Shinsegae Group, CJ Group and Hansol Group. Since 1990s, Samsung has increasingly globalized its activities and electronics, particularly mobile phones and semiconductors, have become its most important source of income.

Jet O'Rourke

Jet O'Rourke is a Melbourne-based musician and Graduate of Architecture from Adelaide. He started performing in Adelaide and released a solo EP, Are Ya Gettin' On? which reached #93 on the ARIA Singles Chart and featured the single 'Fight the Good Fight'. He later relocated to Melbourne where he formed The Gear with Damian Gibson and Brett Wolfenden (later replaced by Leigh Baines and James Harding). The Gear won a spot on the Coke Live 'N Local tour and released an EP in 2005. The Gear EP was produced by 5- time Aria Award winnerPaul McKercher (You Am I, Little Birdy, Eskimo Joe, Augie March).

The Gear toured the United States and Canada during 2006 and 2007, most notably performing shows to audiences at Canadian Music Week (Toronto), and SXSW Austin, Texas. The band received added support and radio airplay on KROQ-FM from renowned L.A. DJ and pal Rodney Bingenheimer famed for discovering musical acts such as David Bowie, The Ramones, and Oasis.
