Sanjeev Kumar (born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala;Gujarati: હરિભાઈ જરીવાલા) 9 July 1938 – 6 November 1985) was a noted Indian film actor. He won several major awards including two National Film Awards for Best Actor for his performances in the movies Dastak (1971) and Koshish (1973). He acted in genres ranging from romantic drama to thrillers. Unlike his peers, Sanjeev Kumar did not mind playing roles that were non-glamorous, such as characters way beyond his age. Movies like Sholay and Trishul exemplify his talents. He is well remembered for his versatility and genuine portrayal of his characters.
Early life and background
Sanjeev Kumar, born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala in Bombay, Maharashtra, (also referred as Haribhai) to a Gujarati family spent his early years in Surat. His family eventually settled in Mumbai. A stint in a film school led him to Bollywood, where he eventually became an accomplished actor. Sanjeev Kumar had two younger brothers and one sister.

Synopsis - Gauri and Prakash are in love and get intimate. Their ways are separate, and Prakash must marry Renuka, as she meets his family's approval. Gauri gets pregnant as a result of this intimacy, gets ill, and is hospitalized. It is here that the truth surfaces about Gauri and Prakash, as details are revealed of their past birth, in which they were lovers - Gangadhar Upadhyay, and Gauri, and Kalavati (presently Renuka). During this previous birth too, Gauri gets pregnant, gets ill, and passes away, because of Kalavati's interference. The child in her womb does not survive, and as a result Gangadhar also gets killed. In this birth, the only way Prakash can survive is after someone who loves him sacrifices their life for him. And that person cannot be Gauri, as her death will leave to the death of the child in her womb, and subsequently to Prakash's death. Renuka is now prepared to kill Gauri so she can get Prakash all to herself.

Plot:- Professor Vidyadhar teaches Hindi in a college and resides in a flat with his wife, Shobha, and school-going son, Pappu. He leads a fairly routine and mundane life, until a new resident in the flat upstairs moves in - an attractive young actress by the name of Menaka Khanna, the daughter of a wealthy man, Dinanath. Shobha does not approve of her at all and tells her so in quite a candid manner. An enraged Menaka swears she will make Shobha regret her criticism. So she decides to seduce Vidyadhar and does succeed to a considerable extent, and even plays his bride in a commercial for "Vicks Vaporub". When Shobha finds out, she decides to put an end to this affair, and a terrified Vidyadhar consumes a portion that makes him invisible, thus temporarily saving him from his wife's wrath. This does leave his free to pursue Menaka, only to find out that Menaka has two other much younger suitors, namely Ranjit Das and Vinod, and both are not likely to give Menaka that easy - at least not without giving the Professor a run for his money.

Synopsis - Widower Amar is well-off financially, and lives in a house with his daughter, and servant Dayal. His sister and brother-in-law want him to marry again, so that his daughter can have the love and care of a woman. Amar reluctantly agrees. Together they set out to check out two sisters, Shobha, and Sheela. Amar goes as Dayal, and Dayal goes as Amar, as Amar is not sure if a step-mother will be able to bestow care and love as a real mother. They arrive at the household of Durga, Shanti Swarup, Renu, Sheela, and their servant Geeta. They begin to settle down, Dayal in a spacious room, and Amar in the servant's quarters, which consists of an untidy room with no electricity. It is not long before Amar finds out that he is attracted to Geeta, and not to the two sisters, but in his present state, he cannot reveal himself, and openly propose marriage. In the meantime, Durga starts getting suspicious about Amar, and starts wondering if Amar is actually a servant or a crook.

Synopsis - Widower Amar is well-off financially, and lives in a house with his daughter, and servant Dayal. His sister and brother-in-law want him to marry again, so that his daughter can have the love and care of a woman. Amar reluctantly agrees. Together they set out to check out two sisters, Shobha, and Sheela. Amar goes as Dayal, and Dayal goes as Amar, as Amar is not sure if a step-mother will be able to bestow care and love as a real mother. They arrive at the household of Durga, Shanti Swarup, Renu, Sheela, and their servant Geeta. They begin to settle down, Dayal in a spacious room, and Amar in the servant's quarters, which consists of an untidy room with no electricity. It is not long before Amar finds out that he is attracted to Geeta, and not to the two sisters, but in his present state, he cannot reveal himself, and openly propose marriage. In the meantime, Durga starts getting suspicious about Amar, and starts wondering if Amar is actually a servant or a crook.

I remember once we were filming a song with some tongue twisting words and the shot got stuck, we did about 10-15 takes but each time it did not work.. he suggested to stop the shooting for a short break... during this break I approached him and explained the meaning of those words... and went through the sequence... he gave a amazing shot straight after the break.... then he asked me "where are you from", I said "Lucknow".. and he said (in Hindi) "Only people form Lucknow can have such good Hindi and Urdu", a big compliment for me and Lucknow.
