Chokh was released on 1983 Bengali film starring Om Puri, Shreela Majumdar, Shyamanand Jalan, Anil Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Biplab Chatterjee, Asit Mukherjee, Dipak Sarkar. The Bengali film is directed by Utpalendu Chakraborty. Utpalendu Chakraborty scored the music in the film. The story is as Jadunath Sahu, a labour leader is hanged in December 1975 when the country is in a State of Emergency, with all political parties in the opposition under a ban. He leaves instructions that his eyes should be given to a worker who has never seen the world. Jethia, a powerful and influential jute mill owner, influenced the Government to get the eyes for his son. But Ghanshyam, the hospital driver and few local workers demand that the eyes be given to Chhedial, a blind worker. Dr. Mukherjee before the operation tries to trace the papers recording Jadunath donation, the superintendent tells Dr. Mukherjee to carry out his duty as there are instructions from the highest quarters. Dr. Mukherjee sticks to his point and is prepared to face the consequences. Jethia, on coming to know that the eyes belonged to Jadunath, tells the superintendent to destroy them as he cannot bear the idea of the eyes surviving which contain the fighting spirit of the workers and the passion for revolution. Jadunath widow and Ghanshyam organize a demonstration by worker. When obstructed by the police armed with shields and batons Jadunath widow holds the blind chhedi lal hands and takes the first step forward. The workers join in small bunches and follow them.
