The Blue Train in South Africa is said to be one of the most luxurious trains in the world. The 27 hour train journey takes you from Pretoria to Cape Town in South Africa (or the reverse). On board each room has two single beds or a double and comes with a full sized bathroom and shower, with deluxe sweets even having a full sized bath tub. While on board all of the guests needs are taken care of by a butler. Drinks and high tea are served in the lounge car with gourmet breakfast, lunch and a formal dinner being served in the dinning car. Onboard the train there is also a Club Lounge which is a great place for an aperitif or digestif along with a fine Cuban cigar.

This is the first part of a series covering the Blue Train operated by Transnet Freight Rail. The majority of footage was recorded in the Breede River Valley, Western Cape, South Africa.
The Blue train is mostly worked by the South African class 18E and more recently two purposed painted Class 20E's. The class 18E were rebuilt from the aging class 6E1 and now feature micro processor control and remote input/output systems amongst other upgrades. They are still of the 3kV DC power class and have maintained their Bo-Bo wheel arrangement.
The class 20E was introduced in 2013 and were manufactured by the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company of China. They are Dual 3 kV DC & 25 kV AC/50Hz and also use a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement.

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and later was at the forefront of free jazz. He organized at least fifty recording sessions as a leader during his recording career, and appeared as a sideman on many other albums, notably with trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.
As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. His second wife was pianist Alice Coltrane, and their son Ravi Coltrane is also a saxophonist. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in jazz history. He received many posthumous awards and recognitions, including canonization by the African Orthodox Church as Saint John William Coltrane. In 2007, Coltrane was awarded the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for his "masterful improvisation, supreme musicianship and iconic centrality to the history of jazz."

On board each room has two single beds or a double and comes with a full sized bathroom and shower, with deluxe sweets even having a full sized bath tub. While on board all of the guests needs are taken care of by a butler. Drinks and high tea are served in the lounge car with gourmet breakfast, lunch and a formal dinner being served in the dinning car. Onboard the train there is also a Club Lounge which is a great place for an aperitif or digestif along with a fine Cuban cigar.

This is the first part of a series covering the Blue Train operated by Transnet Freight Rail. The majority of footage was recorded in the Breede River Valley, Western Cape, South Africa.
The Blue train is mostly worked by the South African class 18E and more recently two purposed painted Class 20E's. The class 18E were rebuilt from the aging class 6E1 and now feature micro processor control and remote input/output systems amongst other upgrades. They are still of the 3kV DC power class and have maintained their Bo-Bo wheel arrangement.
The class 20E was introduced in 2013 and were manufactured by the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company of China. They are Dual 3 kV DC & 25 kV AC/50Hz and also use a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement.

In January 1930 Rover claimed its Light Six had gone faster the Le Train Bleu, one of the world's most luxurious trains, which ran from Cannes in the south of France to Calais in the north. One evening at dinner, Bentley Boy Woofe Barnato said that was nothing special, and he could race the Blue Train, reach Calais, cross the English Channel and reach the Conservative Club in London before the train arrived in Calais. He succeeded with four minutes to spare. Here, Steve Cropley retraces the Bentley Boys' London haunts in the very car than Barnato made the journey.
