He's a Pirate

"He's a Pirate" is a 2003 track composed by Klaus Badelt for the Disney movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It is featured on the soundtrack album of the film and is used at the beginning of the credits for the film.

The track has been subject to a number of remix versions collected in an EP titled Pirates Remixed and separate singles released notably by Tiësto in 2006 and by Rebel in 2014.

Production

Hans Zimmer was initially asked to score the film, but he gave the assignment to his colleague Klaus Badelt since he was working on another project at that time. However, he ended up writing most of the themes, including "He's A Pirate".

Pirates Remixed EP

Pirates Remixed is an EP that features remixes by Tiësto and other DJs of the song "He's a Pirate" composed by Klaus Badelt for the Disney movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It was made available for download exclusively through iTunes, via the official EP website.

Walt Disney Records also has a promotional CD which contains nine tracks total, including two tracks from the original scores, and radio edits. EMI also was licensed to create a CD which contained the Tiësto remixes and the Jack Theme Suite from the second film's score. Along with the digital download and the limited CD releases, it was also released as a promotional copy on vinyl. The vinyl version came under the name Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Remixes and contained a remix not available on either the digital download or the CD versions.

Pirates of the Caribbean (pinball)

Pirates of the Caribbean is a pinball machine produced by Stern Pinball. It is based on the motion picture franchise of the same name and was advertised with the slogan "The Greatest Pinball Adventure Of All-Time!".

Piracy

Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea. Those who engage in acts of piracy are called pirates. The earliest documented instances of piracy were in the 14th century BC, when the Sea Peoples, a group of ocean raiders, attacked the ships of the Aegean and Mediterranean civilizations. Narrow channels which funnel shipping into predictable routes have long created opportunities for piracy, as well as for privateering and commerce raiding. Hans Florian Zimmer (German pronunciation: [hans ˌfloːʁi̯aːn ˈtsɪmɐ]; born 12 September 1957) is a German composer and record producer. Since the 1980s, he has composed music for over 150 films. His works include The Lion King, for which he won Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Thin Red Line, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar.

Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks studios and works with other composers through the company that he founded, Remote Control Productions.

Zimmer's works are notable for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. He has received four Grammy Awards, three Classical BRIT Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award. He was also named on the list of Top 100 Living Geniuses, published by The Daily Telegraph.

Dead Man

Dead Man is a 1995 American Western film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. It stars Johnny Depp, Gary Farmer, Billy Bob Thornton, Iggy Pop, Crispin Glover, John Hurt, Michael Wincott, Lance Henriksen, Gabriel Byrne, and Robert Mitchum (in his final film role). The film, dubbed a "Psychedelic Western" by its director, includes twisted and surreal elements of the Western genre. The film is shot entirely in black-and-white. Neil Young composed the guitar-seeped soundtrack with portions he improvised while watching the movie footage. Some consider it the ultimate postmodern Western, and related to postmodern literature such as Cormac McCarthy's novel, Blood Meridian. Like much of Jarmusch's work, it has acquired status as a cult film.

Plot

William Blake, an accountant from Cleveland, Ohio, rides by train to the frontier company town of Machine to assume a promised job as an accountant in the town's metal works. During the trip, a Fireman warns Blake against the enterprise while passengers shoot buffalo from the train windows. Arriving in town, Blake discovers that his position has already been filled, and he is driven from the workplace at gunpoint by John Dickinson, the ferocious owner of the company. Jobless and without money or prospects, Blake meets Thel Russell, a former prostitute who sells paper flowers. He lets her take him home. Thel's ex-boyfriend Charlie surprises them in bed and shoots at Blake, accidentally killing Thel when she tries to shield Blake with her body. A wounded Blake shoots and kills Charlie with Thel's gun before climbing dazedly out the window and fleeing Machine on a stolen horse. Company-owner Dickinson just happens to be Charlie's father, and he hires three legendary frontier killers, Cole Wilson, Conway Twill, and Johnny "The Kid" Pickett to bring Blake back 'dead or alive'.
