right-wing blogs we like
The Reagan Wing Hearin lies the real heart of Washington State Republicans. Doug Parris runs this red-meat social conservative group site which bars no holds when it comes to saying who they are and who they're not; what they believe and what they don't; who their friends are and where the rest of the Republicans can go. Well-written, and flaming.
Orbusmax inexhaustible Drudgery of NW conservative news
The Radio Equalizer prolific former Seattle KVI, KIRO talk host speaks authoritatively about radio.
Seems the the Partay of No! ain't much of a partay anymore. The socialist overlords have even fucked up their cable service and Fox (of course) Sports.
Conservatives are now kvetching about Comcast; the patriots are not amused -- as a matter of fact, they want to kill!
(One of our readers had to remind grumpy, erstwhile couch surfer Earling that Newt Gingrich's 1994 Contract on America killed cable rights
Michael Medved, The Wizard of Politics and Pop Culture, has written a most enlightened and realistic column for USA Today, We loved it because it bolsters our own views, but also because it adds some cogent and brilliant points even we hadn't thought of. (And typical of the Ivy League Michael, (KTTH m-f, 12-3p) it's written so well).
Barack Obama is our candidate, now, and we've been thinking about whether right-wing talk radio and Fox News will help Olde John in 2008, as much as it did George W. Bush in 2004.
We don't think so.
While talk radio can be influential, things have changed radically since those dark days that re-elected George Bush and brought such shame and catastrophe down upon the land.
There's more liberal talk radio Air America did not exist in 2004; and Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Sam Seder, Marc Maron, Mike Malloy, et al. were but local hosts or unknowns. While they're not close to being Big Pants, Hannity or Don Imus, they're competition on the dial to the conservatives, and even within a shrinking industry, progressive radio is growing one talker at a time. We now have a crop of bright, name-recognizable media progressives where there never were before. A good thing.
There's a general downturn in radio, and in talk radio in particular Part of this can be directly attributed to the stink of Bush, the failings of a conservative majority and
that the yapping poodles of right-wing media have been so wrong about so much. They've stuck to a political explanation of global warming, powdered Iraq War soft drinks, voodoo fiscal matters, tax cuts for the rich, immigration fear-mongering, Bush's no-policy energy policy; American exceptionalist go-it-alone foreign policy -- they even still claim Bush is competent. The wild-eyed partisan recitations of such GOP apparatchiks as Hannity have left him and his cohort with about the same credibility as the president's... and Arbitron reflects it. As the Democrats come together after the hard primaries, Rush Limbaugh's supposedly monkeywrenching "Operation Chaos" turned out to be as it was intended: a way for Big Pants to get his name in the papers and to be able to piss in a tent from which he's usually excluded.
~~ Penises Disappear. Excellent commenter Gay Gary sent us this case of Mass Psychogenic Illness in Sudan in 2003. Mass hysteria spread through Khartoum, Sudan caused by rumors via cell phone text messaging of foreigners roaming the city, shaking men's hands, and making their penises disappear. Gary writes, "With the rise of internet-borne consumer generated media, one could imagine the conditions are now ripe for an event of disastrous proportion, especially if intentionally provoked by an organized non-state actor with advanced training in psychology and new media modes and methods."
~~ BlatherMunch, our new Sunday diversion into food and dining, went off with the clamor and uproar of the Phil the Junkie Show (KIRO Sundays, 4-7p) : we thought there'd be gritches and biping from the usual readers who argue that we pay too little attention to either radio, or politics. Not much of a peep out of either side. Our main objective, of course, is to get back on the media A-list for fancy dinners, and restaurant openings.
~~ Can we get busted for this? Seems if you Google, "sex tiny tiny hot tiny boy girl," you get to... BlatherWatch. We know nothing.
~~ Above it all. Stefan "harrumpf" Sharkansky, the stuffy right-winger who owns the official state GOP
site Sound Politics.com has returned after a sabbatical. He's posting again, but has turned off the comments; handing down pronouncements to the quaking believers and hovering over the proceedings like The Almighty. A telling distinction between right and left wing blogs is the way they handle comments: the righties police comments, control the conversation, and tamp down dissension; lefties let it run democratic and free. Stefan has chosen to remain aloof and above reproach.

lauded for being able to do what Hillary couldn't." ~~Chris Lehane
Bryan Suits, the inveterate veteran was walked off the plank by KOMO PD Dennis Kelly and Acting PD Travis Box late Friday afternoon after a long run in Seattle talk radio at KVI and KIRO.
Suits wrote a comment at Sound Politics with instructions:
... I'm going to Montana to shoot a bison. I would love to be back on the air in Seattle
again, but the time might be right to bite on some longstanding opportunities elsewhere. Either way, I'll post a note through Karl at leaningstraightup.com
I need to say, the Seattle conservative is a great listener. Always blunt and honest, never sycophantic (to me). We are the minority here and it's been an honor to talk to you for three hours daily. Of course, you may run into me at Cabela's, the WAC gun shows or The Wilde Rover in Kirkland (wednesday trivia night). For now, thanks a bunch. I'll probably be a regular poster here because I've got all these annoying thoughts and no outlet. My wife gives me lists and shuffles me off to the truck in order to have some peace. Skank (in a good way).

Dorothy Parvaz's celebrated Halloween with more than her share of monsters and squeaky little demons.
She stood right up to Sean Hannity, laughed (ha!) in the face of Atlanta right-wing talk host Neal Boortz, and let Dori Monson whine around the edges, too.
Parvaz appeared on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, Wednesday; andthat Bill O'Reilly's people invited her too. "I declined," she says, "One Fox show is enough, right?"
(Right, we said, though we'd have loved her kick Billo's ample fundament as well.)
Parvaz, 37, who writes as D. Parvaz for the Seattle P-I, also appears weekly on a panel with other local reporters discussing the news on Weekday with Steve Scher. (KUOW, Fridays 10a). She also writes a column and is on the newspaper's editorial board.
The right-wing has elevated Our Dorothy to national status.
~ Is Dori going viral? The answer is yes according to our sources, and
it could be deliverance from the boredom we're having with local
talk radio. Dori Monson, (KIRO m-f, 12-3p) recently bought the
dorimonson.com domain for an undisclosed amount, reportedly hefty. (he's got
the dough, dude, he's the King of Seattle radio, and endorses a hundred products and services!) His intention: "to
be able to respond in kind to BlatherWatch, and have a site like
Goldstein's except put some money into it," or so they say. Until he recently scooped it up, The domain had been parked
with a polite spoofsite gently making fun of The Dorster. Here's a
cached version of it.
~ The Christianizing of Kirby & Company (KVI m-f, 5-9a) has
stuck some sharp pointy fingers in some soft spots. A KVI/KOMO staffer wrote to say "the situation
is delicate right now," and that management is very aware of it. The sharp-tongued Carleen
Johnson, former news "gal," now Associate Pastor, is leading the
weekdaily devotionals with Kirby chiming in passively and
Matt Haver not saying much. A comment by EBB: "I had to stop listening to
Kirby months ago because I could not abide by the religious turn the
show had been taking." Not that the KVI suits don't like Jesus, we're told, but
it's conventional broadcasting wisdom that religion-speak turns off
listeners on secular radio. Sweet old Blatherwatch commenter
Tommy008 writes: "This morning they had a Christian
movie reviewer on since, of course, a just a plain old movie reviewer
wouldn't do. Carleen mentioned during this segment about being "on
fire" for God." Last May, Johnson quit because, sources told us, the outspoken Christian conservative was uncomfortable about the
way KOMO was reporting- among other stories- the Supreme Court
decision on late term abortions. She brought an attorney down to Fisher Plaza, and after nearly two weeks of negotiations, the resignation was declared a "misunderstanding," by management. This may be a clue as to why the kid gloves around this on-air Chirstian witnessing which has got to be giving management the hives.
~ Funny, they always question our credentials... (but then again, we're just self-appointed radio critics) When Jen Andrews withdrew as Ron & Don's (KIRO m-f, 3-6p) producer last summer, PD Rod Arquette hired a young thing named Carolyn. Staffers tell us that it was obvious she knew not what she was doing, "EVERYONE," says one, "knew that woman was a fraud- and EVERYONE told him so!" But she survived until recently a job applicant came in and spotted "producer" Carolyn and yelled, "She's no producer!" Seems Carolyn was the applicant's board op at a California station and had no producing experience except producing creative resumes, or perhaps small cries from men of a certain age. After being exposed, she was canned, and the applicant got the job- at least temporarily. Our source says, "In the end, management had to cover themselves for a dumb choice. It makes no sense that she was hired in the first place. Especially given the talented producers the station all ready has."
~ Being Ron & Don's producer. You have to be a part Mom, part hall monitor, part dog, part dogcatcher. Please enjoy this picture of Ron Upshaw wearing a bra on the outside of his clothes: gives you an idea what an R&D producer's gotta contend with.
(the leg in the picture is Don's)
In "Shark Attack," a new story in The Stranger, ace reporter Erica Barnett did the due journalistic diligence, and spoke with almost everybody involved. They even got a picture of Steffany Bell the waitress in the center of this shitzkrieg.
