CNBC is an American basic cable, internet and satellite business news television channel that is owned by NBCUniversal News Group, a division of NBCUniversal, owned by Comcast. Headquartered in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, the network primarily carries business day coverage of U.S. and international financial markets; following the end of the business day and on non-trading days, CNBC primarily carries financial and business-themed documentaries and reality shows.
Originally established on April 17, 1989 by a joint venture between NBC and Cablevision as the Consumer News and Business Channel, the network later acquired its main competitor, the Financial News Network, in 1991—a move which expanded both its distribution and its workforce, and Cablevision sold its stake to NBC, giving it sole ownership. As of February 2015, CNBC is available to approximately 93,623,000 pay television households (80.4% of households with television) in the United States. In 2007, the network was ranked as the 19th most valuable cable channel in the United States, worth roughly $4 billion.
Latin America is the group of territories and countries in the Americas where Romance languages are spoken. The term originated in 19th century France to include French-speaking territories in the Americas within the larger group of countries that speak Spanish and Portuguese. It is therefore marginally broader than the term Iberian America or Spanish America, though it excludes French-speaking Quebec. Latin America consists of twenty sovereign states and several territories and dependencies which cover an area that stretches from the southern border of the United States to the southern tip of South America, including the Caribbean. It has an area of approximately 19,197,000 km2 (7,412,000 sq mi), almost 13% of the earth's land surface area.
As of 2015, its population was estimated at more than 626 million and in 2014, Latin America had a combined nominal GDP of 5,573,397 million USD and a GDP PPP of 7,531,585 million USD. The term "Latin America" was first used in 1861 in La revue des races Latines, a magazine "dedicated to the cause of Pan-Latinism".
Juan Sartori (born 6 February 1981) is a Uruguayan businessman and entrepreneur.
He is the President and Founder of Union Group (http://www.uniongrp.com/), a privately owned conglomerate which holds significant strategic interests in businesses spanning the agricultural, energy, forestry, infrastructure, minerals, oil and gas and real estate sectors in Latin America.
Mr Sartori started Union Group in Uruguay in 2006 with a blueberry farming business, subsequently branching out into rice, soya bean and wheat production, and sheep and cattle raising. In 2008, he founded Union Agriculture Group (UAG) to manage his agricultural interests and, in 2013, floated UAG on the Montevideo Stock Exchange. UAG was the largest company to list on the exchange and, as of 11 June 2014, accounted for approximately 70 per cent of its market capitalisation. UAG is the largest agriculture business in Uruguay with 180,000hectares of land and 85,000 heads of cattle.
Union Group has since expanded into a range of other sectors. In 2010, Mr Sartori began investing in energy generation projects in Latin America. In 2013 Union Group acquired Peruvian hydropower company Generacion Andina from German utility company EnBW (Energie Baden-Wurttemberg), which is building two hydropower plants and developing a further 17 plants in the country, involving a total investment of $2 billion over four years. In 2015, Union Group secured a $59m financing package from a consortium of banks for two hydropower projects, taking the overall investment into energy assets in the region to around 1GW. Once completed, the plants will meet 15 per cent of Peru’s energy needs.
