According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the longest return by an offensive lineman in NFL history, and the play changed the momentum for the Patriots at a critical point in their 31-27 victory.
Dan Connolly's legendary kick return against the Packers is one of my favorite plays of all time, however it has always bothered me that he never made it to the endzone.

Fernando Javier Vargas (born December 7, 1977) is a retired American boxer of Mexican descent and two-time world champion, who won a bronze medal as an amateur at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. His nicknames include "Ferocious", "The Aztec Warrior" and "El Feroz". Vargas was the youngest fighter to become world light middleweight champion until Saul Alvarez won the vacant WBC belt in March 2011.
Some of Fernando's notable wins include victories over former world champions Raúl Márquez, Yori Boy Campas, Ike Quartey, and over Winky Wright. His losses to Oscar De La Hoya, Félix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, and Ricardo Mayorga remain his only career defeats and he is a favorite of American cable TV giant HBO. He's also known for having problems with alcohol (and to a certain extent, drugs) which have been thought to have affected his career at times.
Fernando is very good friends with Julio César Chávez; Chavez has been part of Vargas' ring entourage in at least two fights (the fight with Trinidad and the fight with De La Hoya). Chavez was also present when Vargas proposed to his wife (and mother of his 3 boys and 1 girl) Martha Lopez Vargas.
Vargas was born in Oxnard, California. In his youth, Vargas was trained by Eduardo García at the popular La Colonia Youth Boxing Club in the Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard. Fernando Vargas compiled an extraordinary amateur record of 100-5. In 1992, he won the 132 lb. championships at the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, and came in second at the Junior Olympics. In 1993, he captured the triple crown of amateur boxing: the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, the Junior Olympics, and the Junior Olympics International tournament. The following year he solidified his position as one of the premier amateur fighters in the world by winning the 132 lb gold medal at the Olympic Festival, seizing the U.S. Junior Championships at 132 lb, and by becoming the youngest fighter ever to win the U.S. Championships. In 1995, he was selected to the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team.

Daniel Paul Connolly (born September 2, 1982) is an American football center for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Southeast Missouri State.
Connolly was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Marquette High School in Chesterfield, Missouri and was a letterman in football. In football, he was a three-time All-District selection and a three-time All-Conference selection.
He was a four-year starting offensive tackle for Southeast Missouri State University who was All-Conference four consecutive seasons and finished his collegiate career with 46 consecutive starts.
Connolly was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 24, 2005. He made the team's 53-man roster and spent the rest of the season on it. He was placed on injured reserve by the Jaguars on September 2, 2006. Connolly was waived by the Jaguars on September 1, 2007.
Connolly was signed to the Patriots' practice squad on September 13, 2007, where he spent the remainder of the season before being re-signed to a future contract on February 5, 2008. He was then waived by the Patriots on October 20, 2008. He was re-signed to the team's practice squad on October 22. He was promoted to the active roster on December 13, 2008.

His nicknames include "Ferocious", "The Aztec Warrior" and "El Feroz". Vargas was the youngest fighter to become world light middleweight champion until Saul Alvarez won the vacant WBC belt in March 2011.
Some of Fernando's notable wins include victories over former world champions Raúl Márquez, Yori Boy Campas, Ike Quartey, and over Winky Wright. His losses to Oscar De La Hoya, Félix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, and Ricardo Mayorga remain his only career defeats and he is a favorite of American cable TV giant HBO. He's also known for having problems with alcohol (and to a certain extent, drugs) which have been thought to have affected his career at times.
Fernando is very good friends with Julio César Chávez; Chavez has been part of Vargas' ring entourage in at least two fights (the fight with Trinidad and the fight with De La Hoya). Chavez was also present when Vargas proposed to his wife (and mother of his 3 boys and 1 girl) Martha Lopez Vargas.
Vargas was born in Oxnard, California. In his youth, Vargas was trained by Eduardo García at the popular La Colonia Youth Boxing Club in the Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard. Fernando Vargas compiled an extraordinary amateur record of 100-5. In 1992, he won the 132 lb. championships at the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, and came in second at the Junior Olympics. In 1993, he captured the triple crown of amateur boxing: the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, the Junior Olympics, and the Junior Olympics International tournament. The following year he solidified his position as one of the premier amateur fighters in the world by winning the 132 lb gold medal at the Olympic Festival, seizing the U.S. Junior Championships at 132 lb, and by becoming the youngest fighter ever to win the U.S. Championships. In 1995, he was selected to the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team.
