Today on ScIQ,
Sam Seder from the
Majority Report drops past to discuss the Most Jaw-Dropping Debate
Moments – while Jayde offers some science commentary
... mostly – what were candidates thinking – from a neuroscience and psychology perspective?
1.
Donald Trump saying
Megan Kelly has blood coming out of 'her whatever'. This one was Very carefully phrased - it was crafted on purpose.
Name calling is a cognitive bias and a technique to promote propaganda. Propagandists use the name-calling technique to incite fears and fear mongering. Also –
Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement lists 7 types of disagreement, and not surprisingly, name calling as the lowest type of argument.
2.
Bernie's apology for the data breach
Bernie used clarity & explanation to show trust.
Rand Paul did it to
Glass Steigal in the
GOP debate.
3. O'
Malley's sleeve roll
The science behind this one was clear –
Martin was trying to draw people's attention to his roll-my-sleeves up attitude (and maybe try and evoke a little sex appeal!)

Bernie Sanders Apologizes to
Clinton, Supporters for
Data Breach (from
NBC News)
Saying that his staff "did the wrong thing," Bernie Sanders on Saturday apologized to
Hillary Clinton and to his own supporters after his aides improperly accessed proprietary voter lists created by Clinton's campaign. But the
Vermont senator also suggested that the issue should have been handled without a public spat between the campaigns and the
Democratic National Committee.
Asked by moderators at a
Democratic debate held in
New Hampshire if Clinton is owed an apology for the incident, which resulted in the firing of a Sanders aide, the senator replied "
Yes. I apologize."
Donald Trump's 'blood' comment about
Megyn Kelly draws outrage (from
CNN)
Atlanta (CNN)Donald Trump's feud with Megyn Kelly escalated Friday night when he said the
Fox News host had "blood coming out of her wherever" at this week's
Republican debate, resulting in swift condemnation from conservatives and a major political event pulling its invitation to him.
During Thursday's presidential debate,
Kelly pressed
Trump about misogynistic, sexist comments he made in the past, such as calling some women "fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals."
Trump slammed Kelly, saying her questions were "ridiculous" and "off-base."
"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes," Trump told CNN's
Don Lemon on Friday night. "
Blood coming out of her wherever."
But the comment crossed the line, RedState.com editor
Erick Erickson said Friday night. He disinvited Trump from the RedState Gathering, a conservative event featuring GOP presidential hopefuls this weekend in Atlanta. Trump was scheduled to give the keynote speech
Saturday night.
Saturday morning, Trump attempted to clarify the remark on Twitter.
