In the monumental twentieth episode of The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews, we'll celebrate the lighter side of The Dark Knight by delving deep into the 1966 Batman movie starring Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo. One can't do this film justice, though, without giving full insight on the classic TV series that the film was tied in with and to fully appreciate this more comedic take on Batman and Robin, I'll also discuss the dire state of comic books at the time. I'll then discuss some additional DVD titles that no 60's Bat-fan should be without. We probably wouldn't have the Batman we know and love today if it wasn't for this TV show and movie, so sit back and enjoy the full (and long) story behind the phenomenon that made Batman a pop culture staple. Here's the start of a nice scene from the 1966 Batman movie that was made at the end of the 1st season. In this scene we have the beautiful Lee Meriwether in her one and only performance as " Catwoman ". We first see her in her cat costume and then with " Bruce Wayne " ( Adam West ) posing as Russian reporter " Miss Kit-ka " to lure " Bruce " into a trap and then lure Batman; etc. With " Miss Kit-ka " we see the lovely Lee in a matching orange top, skirt, boots and even nail polish ! A classic outfit that still looks good today. As you can see Catwoman isn't afraid to use her " assets " ! Enjoy !

Batman, often promoted as Batman: The Movie, is a 1966 film based on the Batman television series, and the first full-length theatrical adaptation of the DC Comics character of the same name. Released by 20th Century Fox, the film starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. The film was directed by Leslie H. Martinson, who also directed a pair of Batman episodes; "The Penguin Goes Straight" and "Not Yet, He Ain't", both from season one.
The cast includes members of the original TV cast, including Alan Napier as the Wayne Manor butler Alfred Pennyworth, Neil Hamilton as Commissioner Gordon, Stafford Repp as Chief O'Hara and Madge Blake as Aunt Harriet. Appearing as the criminal characters that they played on TV (and given the name the Rogues Gallery of Villains) are Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, Burgess Meredith as the Penguin, and Cesar Romero as the Joker. Julie Newmar, who left the movie before production started to do other work, is replaced with Lee Meriwether as Catwoman. Lee Meriwether stated in an interview Julie Newmar had hurt her back and she was unable to do the feature film.

Batman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939), and since then has appeared primarily in publications by DC Comics. Originally referred to as "The Bat-Man" and still referred to at times as "The Batman", he is additionally known as "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight", and "The World's Greatest Detective," among other titles.
In the original version of the story and the vast majority of retellings, Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American millionaire (later billionaire) playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Batman operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his crime-fighting partner, Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the police commissioner Jim Gordon, and occasionally the heroine Batgirl. He fights an assortment of villains such as the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, fear, and intimidation in his continuous war on crime.

When Batman (West) and Robin (Ward) get a tip that Commodore Schmidlapp (the final role of actor Reginald Denny) is in danger aboard his yacht, they launch a rescue mission using the Batcopter. After a tangle with an exploding shark, Batman and Robin head back to Commissioner Gordon's office where, through deduction and wisdom, they figure out that the tip was a set-up by four of the most powerful villains in Gotham City (Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman), who have united to defeat The Dynamic Duo once and for all. Armed with a dehydrator that can turn humans into dust, a World War II "Pre-Atomic" Submarine made to resemble a penguin, and their three pirate henchmen (Bluebeard, Morgan and Quetch), the "fearsome foursome" intends to take over the world, and Batman and Robin must stop them. Catwoman, disguised as "Miss Kitka", lures Bruce Wayne into a trap, little suspecting that Wayne is Batman's alter-ego, and Penguin even schemes his way into the Batcave, leaving the Duo unable to prevent the kidnapping of the dehydrated United World Organization's Security Council. After giving chase in the Batboat, the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder use a sonic charge weapon called "Bat-Charges" to disable Penguin's submarine and bring it to the surface, where a grand fistfight ensues. Although Commodore Schmidlapp sneezes on and scatters the powdered members of the dehydrated Council, mixing them together -- which would normally spell their doom -- Batman constructs an elaborate filter to return each of them to life. Prior to this process, Robin asks Batman if it might not be in the world's best interests for them to alter the dust samples so that humans can no longer harm one another. In response, Batman says that they cannot do so and can only hope for people, in general, to learn to live together peacefully on their own. However, in the final scene, Robin's wishes are ironically fulfilled when the Security Council is improperly re-hydrated. While all of the members are alive and well, continuing to squabble among themselves and totally oblivious of their surroundings, each of them now speaks a completely different language than their original native tongue. As the world looks on in disbelief at this development, Batman and Robin quietly climb out of the United World Headquarters to an uncertain future. Batman's final words express his sincere hope that this "mixing of minds" does more good than it does harm.

Here's the start of a nice scene from the 1966 Batman movie that was made at the end of the 1st season. In this scene we have the beautiful Lee Meriwether in her one and only performance as " Catwoman ". We first see her in her cat costume and then with " Bruce Wayne " ( Adam West ) posing as Russian reporter " Miss Kit-ka " to lure " Bruce " into a trap and then lure Batman; etc. With " Miss Kit-ka " we see the lovely Lee in a matching orange top, skirt, boots and even nail polish ! A classic outfit that still looks good today. As you can see Catwoman isn't afraid to use her " assets " ! Enjoy ! -

After a tangle with an exploding shark, Batman and Robin head back to Commissioner Gordon's office where, through deduction and wisdom, they figure out that the tip was a set-up by four of the most powerful villains in Gotham City (Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman), who have united to defeat The Dynamic Duo once and for all.
Armed with a dehydrator that can turn humans into dust, a World War II "Pre-Atomic" Submarine made to resemble a penguin, and their three pirate henchmen (Bluebeard, Morgan and Quetch), the "fearsome foursome" intends to take over the world, and Batman and Robin must stop them. Catwoman, disguised as "Miss Kitka", lures Bruce Wayne into a trap, little suspecting that Wayne is Batman's alter-ego, and Penguin even schemes his way into the Batcave, leaving the Duo unable to prevent the kidnapping of the dehydrated United World Organization's Security Council.
After giving chase in the Batboat, the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder use a sonic charge weapon called "Bat-Charges" to disable Penguin's submarine and bring it to the surface, where a grand fistfight ensues. Although Commodore Schmidlapp sneezes on and scatters the powdered members of the dehydrated Council, mixing them together -- which would normally spell their doom -- Batman constructs an elaborate filter to return each of them to life.
Prior to this process, Robin asks Batman if it might not be in the world's best interests for them to alter the dust samples so that humans can no longer harm one another. In response, Batman says that they cannot do so and can only hope for people, in general, to learn to live together peacefully on their own.
However, in the final scene, Robin's wishes are ironically fulfilled when the Security Council is improperly re-hydrated. While all of the members are alive and well, continuing to squabble among themselves and totally oblivious of their surroundings, each of them now speaks a completely different language than their original native tongue. As the world looks on in disbelief at this development, Batman and Robin quietly climb out of the United World Headquarters to an uncertain future. Batman's final words express his sincere hope that this "mixing of minds" does more good than it does harm.

I don't own this at all (duh). This is just me, my sis and our dad watching a show he hasn't seen since he was a kid with very poor camera quality :3 sorry. The camera on iPad doesn't zoom in at all. I don't own this at all (duh). This is just me, my sis and our dad watching a show he hasn't seen since he was a kid with very poor camera quality :3 sorry. The camera on iPad doesn't zoom in at all. If there is a way...I'll probably find out someday.
What basically happens here is that Batman and Robin are called on to help catch the Riddler (again...this guy appears a LOT in season 1) along with his henchmen and typical random hench-woman. Turns out the Riddler has gotten into, what else, SILENT MOVIES. (yeah, totally didn't see that coming) and makes a point to film himself as he goes about robbing a movie theatre, a bakery and...spiking lemonade at a formal shindig with TemperTonic? (Oookay...) All the while secretly sticking around after every crime to film the Dinamic Duo in action when they come around to Clean up the mess.. (Someone's just discovered a weird hobby :/) To add insult to injury, Riddler uses the chaos of the tempered party to kidnap Robin, where he have a spoof of Perils of Pauline to worry about and AAAA!! CLIFFHANGER!!

As an eleventh generation American and a Mayflower descendant, Julie Newmar has beauty, brains and a charming sense of humor. Born Julia Chalene Newmeyer in Los Angeles, her father, Donald, was an engineering professor, head of the Phys Ed. Department, and head football coach at LACC. He was on the L. A. Buccaneers Wonder Team. Her mother, Helen Jesmer, was a Ziegfeld Follies girl, said by Eddie Cantor to have the most beautiful legs in the Follies. From an early age, Julie studied classical piano, ballet, and every form of dance her mother would drive her to lessons for, graduating high school at 15, then spending a year in Europe with her mother and brother John. On her UCLA entrance exam, she scored a 99, staying only six weeks, switching to Universal Studios as choreographer, teacher, and dance double. Not yet 18, she was the original "Golden Girl," a statue-come-to-life dancing in "Serpent of the Nile," often times seen on MySpace, YouTube, and was one of the brides in the classic MGM musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
In 1966, urged by her brother at Harvard, she created the role of Catwoman in "Batman." Her sense of humor and physicality made her this show's most popular villain. Similarly popular was her appearance as April the Laundress in "The Monkees Get Out More Dirt". On "Wide, Wide World of Sports," she made three parachute jumps. She was killed off in "Columbo" but slayed audiences as Lola in "Damn Yankees." She was given a chapter in the book "Mothers of Invention" for having created "Nudemar," a new design in pantyhose, appearing in People Magazine.
Few women have had a movie named after them. Julie's name literally became box office via "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar," a film from Stephen Spielberg's company. Literary types from John D. MacDonald to Harlan Coben have written characters based on Julie or alluding to Julie's "special... beautiful and animated... incomparable feminine" personality. She was persuaded by Adam West to re-make Catwoman in his "Return to the Batcave." She also appeared in her own "A&E; Biography."
A feud over "quality of life" issues with neighbor Jim Belushi ended amicably in a historic and hysteric guest spot on his show, "According to Jim," which once again proved she's as active and attractive as ever. Batman's formidable feline, Belushi's archly attractive enemy.
From the '60s into the 21st century, Julie is still fascinating. "Beauty is her business" as well as her passion for art and design and gardening, which have led to a rose, day lily, and an orchid named in her honor. So the Russo Brothers spoke about how Captain America and Bucky are like brothers, who are bonded by their past and the only thing left from their past. They also mentioned that Cap will indeed be getting a new suit, his traditional chain mail outfit, and they again spoke about the newer younger Spiderman, and how can they contemporize his relationship with Aunt May?
Krysten Ritter for Jessica Jones season 2 and the Defenders?
Jessica Jones herself Krysten Ritter recently spoke positively about her hope to get a second season rolling for her character, saying there is lots of story left to tell with Jessica, and she would throw on the boots and leather jacket anytime. Flashback - Batman (1966)
The first feature Length Batman movie happened back in 1966, hitting theaters right after the final epsiode of the first televion season finished airing. America was hit with Batmania!!! starring Adam West as Bruce Wayne Batman, and Burt Ward as Robin. We had the rogues gallery represented by Ceasar Romero as The Joker, Burgess Meredith as the Penquin, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, and Lee Meriwether as the Catwoman on screen, which was played by Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt on the television series. This pop comedy styled film was written by Lorenzo Semple Jr,and directed by Leslie Martinson, who just turned 100 years old this year!! . This was the way the modern world looked at comic books, and superheroes in general, as comedic fluff entertainment, and what fluff it was! I saw the series on TV as little kid, and this version of Batman was so entertaining, so action packed, with wild colorful villains every episode, and I had a crush on Yvonne Craig as Batgirl! This was before comics entered the 70’s, and way before we got the grim and gritty dark knight detective. Let’s talk about nanananananana Batman!!!
Spotlight: Invincible
This week’s spotlight is on a superhero written by “The Walking Dead’s” own Robert Kirkman and artist Corey Walker, and the title is called “Invincible” about a high school kid who develops superhuman powers, finds out his dad is a super powered alien sent as a scout to prep a hostile takeover, and he must ultimately battle his dad, all the while falling in love and befriending all types of superpowered aliens and various superheroes and villains.Would this comic book series best make the translation to film or television?

Flashback - Batman (1966)
The first feature Length Batman movie happened back in 1966, hitting theaters right after the final epsiode of the first televion season finished airing. America was hit with Batmania!!! starring Adam West as Bruce Wayne Batman, and Burt Ward as Robin. We had the rogues gallery represented by Ceasar Romero as The Joker, Burgess Meredith as the Penquin, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, and Lee Meriwether as the Catwoman on screen, which was played by Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt on the television series. This pop comedy styled film was written by Lorenzo Semple Jr,and directed by Leslie Martinson, who just turned 100 years old this year!! . This was the way the modern world looked at comic books, and superheroes in general, as comedic fluff entertainment, and what fluff it was! I saw the series on TV as little kid, and this version of Batman was so entertaining, so action packed, with wild colorful villains every episode, and I had a crush on Yvonne Craig as Batgirl! This was before comics entered the 70’s, and way before we got the grim and gritty dark knight detective. Let’s talk about nanananananana Batman!!!
Spotlight: Invincible
This week’s spotlight is on a superhero written by “The Walking Dead’s” own Robert Kirkman and artist Corey Walker, and the title is called “Invincible” about a high school kid who develops superhuman powers, finds out his dad is a super powered alien sent as a scout to prep a hostile takeover, and he must ultimately battle his dad, all the while falling in love and befriending all types of superpowered aliens and various superheroes and villains.Would this comic book series best make the translation to film or television?

When I was a kid reading Batman and Superman comics, the first thing that grabbed my eye were the elements on the surface ... Batman wasn't just about an angry orphan getting revenge for the murder of his parents ... Watching Batman v Superman ... Ultimately, though, the source material doesn't matter to the film. It doesn't matter that I'm a lifelong Batman fan ... It doesn't matter how I think Batman and Superman should act like or stand for....

There's a great Batman v Superman film to be made about how we mythologize our heroes and why our trust in them depends on how human we think our enemy is, but whatever Snyder created here is not it ... Megaton fight scenes are the reason people will put up with bad dialogue or bad logic in a film, so it's an outright tragedy when Batman v Superman's showdowns become as boring as the rest of it....
