The Paracel Islands, also known as Xisha in Chinese and Hoàng Sa in Vietnamese, is a group of islands, reefs, banks and other maritime features in the South China Sea. It is controlled (and occupied) by the People's Republic of China, and also claimed by Taiwan (Republic of China) and Vietnam.
The archipelago includes about 130 small coral islands and reefs, most grouped into the northeast Amphitrite Group or the western Crescent Group. They are distributed over a maritime area of around 15,000 square kilometres (5,800 sq mi), with a land area of approximately 7.75 square kilometres (2.99 sq mi). The archipelago is approximately equidistant from the coastlines of China (PRC) and Vietnam; and approximately about one-third of the way from central Vietnam to the northern Philippines.
Forces of the Republic of China (RoC) landed on Woody Island in the Amphitrite Group in November 1946 and abandoned it in May 1950. The Amphitrite islands were then unoccupied until forces of the People's Republic of China landed there in late 1955. French and 'Annamite' forces landed on Pattle Island in the Crescent Group in January 1947. After independence forces from South Vietnam took over the positions until the Battle of the Paracel Islands in January 1974. South Vietnam's claim to the islands was inherited by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which has ruled all of Vietnam since 1976. In July 2012, China (PRC) established the city of Sansha, under Hainan Province, to administer the area.
The China Seas consist of a series of marginal seas in the Western Pacific Ocean, around China. They are the major components signifying the transition from the continent of Asia to the Pacific Ocean. They have been described in terms of their collective vastness and complexity:
Seas included in the China Seas are:
South China (simplified Chinese: 华南; traditional Chinese: 華南; pinyin: huá nán) is a geographical and cultural region that covers the southernmost part of China. Its precise meaning varies with context.
In the broadest sense, Southern China can denote the entire portion of the country south of the line demarcated by the Qin Mountains and Huai River. Between 1945 and 1949, the Republic of China defined Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Fujian and Taiwan as the "Seven Provinces of South China" (simplified Chinese: 华南七省; traditional Chinese: 華南七省; pinyin: huá nán qī shěng). The term can also be used to denote the Lingnan region; but today, the phrase is generally used to refer only to Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong and Macau (historically also known as Liangguang). Defined as such, South China is also contained within South Central China.
The South China Sea is a marginal sea that is part of the Pacific Ocean, encompassing an area from the Singapore and Malacca Straits to the Strait of Taiwan of around 3,500,000 square kilometres (1,400,000 sq mi). The area's importance largely results from one-third of the world's shipping sailing through its waters and that it is believed to hold huge oil and gas reserves beneath its seabed.

The minute South China Sea Islands, collectively an archipelago, number in the hundreds. The sea and its mostly uninhabited islands are subject to competing claims of sovereignty by several countries. These claims are also reflected in the variety of names used for the islands and the sea.
South China Sea is the dominant term used in English for the sea, and the name in most European languages is equivalent, but it is sometimes called by different names in China's neighboring countries, often reflecting historical claims to hegemony over the sea.
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

Tourism has been thriving on the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea as regular cruise tours have brought an increasing number of tourists to the islands. The Xisha Islands are a cluster of islets, sandbanks and reefs in the South China Sea. China set up a city, known as Sansha, to administer the three islands in 2012, with its city government office on the Yongxing Island. The first cruise tour began to operate in 2013. There are now three regular weekly cruise tours around the Xisha Islands. The "Changle Princess", a 126.6-meter-long, 20.5-meter-wide cruise liner, made its maiden voyage in March 2017. Replete with such entertainment facilities as bars, dance floors, cafes, shops, and reading rooms, the cruise has a carrying capacity of 1,000 people. It starts from the Phoenix Isla...
The Xisha Islands are set to become China's next tourist hotspot. Cruises to the islands began on a trial basis in April 2013 and more than 1,700 tourists have already visited the area.
The Chinese PLA Navy has mobilized warships, supporting vessels and war planes from its South Sea Fleet, East Sea Fleet and North Sea Fleet for a live-fire war game, which has also drawn participation from land-to-surface missile forces. Friday's round of the war game is conducted in the South China Sea between the Hainan Island and Xisha Islands in two opposing forces of the Red and Blue corners to test and enhance the battle readiness and capabilities of the Navy under the new circumstances. "We've got to work out on our own on such things about the Blue Corner like where the enemy subs are, from where the enemy warships attack and when the enemy airplanes take off. We gather the information, analyze it and make decisions upon it. For us, it is a real war situation and therefore a test...
Researchers have explored the Yongle Blue Hole in Xisha Islands in Sansha city, south China’s Hainan Province. As the blue hole area is surrounded by shallow waters with densely grown corals, researchers had to use a skiff loaded with sonar detectors to measure the hole. An underwater robot equipped with a camera, underwater light and depth transducer was employed for meticulous measurement. Seven successful divings obtained the data that all show the depth of the hole is about 300 meters. In the upper part of the hole, what divers observed is similar to the waters surrounding the hole. In areas beyond the reach of the divers, the robot was able to measure the temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen level of the water. It was found that there is no oxygen in waters deeper than 100 me...

There's a voice inside our soul
Calling out so we don't fall
Nothing's lost that can't be found
Ain't a thing you can't get 'round
Turn it into something good
There's a chance you really could
Turn it into something special
When you see it's time to choose
Gonna find you'll never lose
Turn it into something special
When your calm is broken too
And you don't know what to do
Hold your fire and look above
Take the flame don't put it out
Turn it into something good
There's a chance you really could
Turn it into something special
When you see it's time to choose
Gonna find you'll never lose
Turn it into something special
Just believe in something new
We all have our part to do
Turn it into something special
And you'd still be standing strong
Hold your crown and carry on
Turn it into something special
When you know right from the start
Gonna play it from the heart
Take a chance and make things better
Leave the fears and doubts behind
Don't give in just keep on tryin'
Turn it into something special
Mmmmm. mmmmm... uuuuuu...
Turn it into something good
There's a chance you really could
Turn it into something special
When you see it's time to choose
Gonna find you'll never lose
Turn it into something special
Turn it into something new
We all have our part to do
take a chance and make it special
And you'd still be standing strong
Hold your crown and carry on
Turn it into something...
Just believe in something
Naa naa naa na na naa.
Just believe in something, yea yea.
Naa naa naa na na naa.
We gotta carry on, we gotta carry on and on.
Naa naa naa na na naa.
Oo oo oo ooooo.
You gotta believe in something
Naa naa naa na na naa...
