George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Carrier Strike Group Deployed to Middle-East, Rare Hangar/Deck Tour
Nearly 6,000 Sailors attached to the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) will depart Norfolk and Mayport, Florida, for a regularly-scheduled deployment.
Led by Commander, Carrier Strike Group 2, Rear Adm. Kenneth R. Whitesell, the GHWBCSG is comprised of the staff of CSG-2; USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); the nine squadrons and staff of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8; Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff and guided-missile destroyers USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Truxtun (DDG 103); and Mayport-based guided missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66).
The squadrons of CVW-8 will depart bases including Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, NAS Whidbey Island, NAS Jacksonville, NAS Lemoore and Naval Station Norfolk. CVW-8 includes Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213 "Fighting Black Lions"; VFA-31 "Tomcatters"; VFA-87 "Golden Warriors"; VFA-37 "Ragin Bulls"; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 131 "Lancers"; Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 124 "Bear Aces"; Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron (HSM) 70 "Spartans"; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 9 "Tridents"; and a detachment from Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 40 "Rawhides".
The deployment is part of a regular rotation of forces to support maritime security operations, provide crisis response capability, increase theater security cooperation and forward naval presence in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

Northrop Grumman Newport News built the USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier, CVN 77, the 10th and final ship of the Nimitz Class nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The CVN 77 programme was authorised in 1999 and Northrop Grumman Newport News was awarded the prime contract for construction of CVN 77 in January 2001.

The Nimitz Class ships are among the largest and most powerful ships ever built. The tenth Nimitz Class carrier was officially named George H W Bush at a ceremony at the Pentagon in December 2002. The keel-laying ceremony took place at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia in September 2003. The christening ceremony took place in October 2006. The vessel was commissioned on 10 January 2009, prior to the completion of acceptance sea trials in April 2009. George H W Bush aircraft carrier was delivered to the US Navy in May 2009.
Improvements incorporated in the new carrier include a new radar tower, navigation and communication systems upgrades, transparent armoured windows, upgraded aircraft launch and recovery equipment and a new fuel system for improved storage and handling of aircraft fuel.
The carrier was built using a modular construction of 161 super-lift sections. The super-lift sections are sequentially hoisted and lowered into the dry dock using a 900t crane.
CVN 77 USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier design
The George H W Bush has the same new bulbous bow design that was used in the CVN 76 USSRonald Reagan, commissioned in 2003. The bulbous bow reduces drag providing improved buoyancy to the forward end of the ship and improved hull efficiency. Other new design features include new propellers and new marine sewage system. The controls on the carrier's bridge and propulsion plant are automated.
Safety features include areas of 6 point 4cm-thick Kevlar panels over sections of the hull. Other safety and damage control measures include box protection structures over the magazines and machinery spaces, and also full and empty compartments are located at the sides of the ship.
The overall length of the CVN 77 is 332 point 9m and it has a full load displacement of 102,000t with stores, ammunition, fuel and water. The ship carries a crew of over 6,000. There are 3,200 crew with 160 officers and 2,500 aircrew. The ship also accommodates the carrier battle group's flag officer and about 70 flag crew.
George H W Bush aircraft
The carrier carries typically up to 56 fixed-wing aircraft including the Hornet, F/A-18A,C,E and F, the Grumman EA-6B Prowler and the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye, and up to 15 helicopters, Sikorsky SH-60F, HH-60H Seahawk and SH-60B Seahawks.
The flight deck is 332 point 9m long and 76 point 8m wide. The angle flight deck is 76 point 8m long. The angled flight deck allows the landing aircraft the option of accelerating safely away if required, minimising the danger of colliding with stationary aircraft on deck.
The carrier can launch aircraft at a rate of one every 20 seconds. The deck has four C13-2 steam catapults and three mk7 mod 3-type arrester wires.
The carrier has four deck edge elevators. The deck edge elevators allow large aircraft to project over the side of the ship. Two starboard lifts are forward of the island and one is to the aft of the island, and the port lift is also aft of the island towards the stern. The hangar deck, (7 point 8m high) has capacity for up to about 30 aircraft, depending on the composition of air wing. The ship carries 8,500t of aviation fuel.
Weapons
Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems at Moorestown, New Jersey was selected as the CVN 77 warfare systems integrator in January 2000. The warfare systems include sensors, communications systems, aircraft control systems, armaments and other electronics systems on the ship.
The CVN 77's combat data systems are based on the advanced combat direction system with communications Links 4A, 11, and 16. Weapons control is managed by three mk91 mod 1 M F C S directors for the Sea Sparrow missile.

NORFOLK, Va. (Nov. 15, 2014) After completing a nine-month deployment in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Operations (AOR), the ships and squadrons of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) returned to their homeports in Norfolk, Va., Whidbey Island, Wash. and Mayport, Fla., Nov 15.
The GHWB CSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8), Destroyer Squadron 22 (CDS 22), the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and the guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). The Strike Group, which deployed on 15 February, steamed a total of 73,400 nautical miles throughout two different AORs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) as well as Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) efforts while working with joint, coalition and allied forces. USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) is the tenth and final Nimitz-class supercarrier of the United States Navy. She is named for the 41st President of the United States and former Director of Central Intelligence George H. W. Bush, who was a naval aviator during World War II. Bush's callsign is Avenger, after the TBM Avenger aircraft flown by then-Lieutenant George Bush in World War II. Construction began in 2003 at the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard's Dry Dock 12, the largest in the western hemisphere. She was completed in 2009 at a cost of $6.2 billion and her home port is Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
Etymology
George H. W. Bush became the U.S. Navy's youngest pilot when he received his Naval Aviator wings and naval commission on 9 June 1943, three days before turning 19. He flew torpedo bombers off USS San Jacinto on active duty from August 1943 to September 1945 during World War II. On 2 September 1944, during a mission over the Pacific, Japanese anti-aircraft fire hit his plane. The Navy submarine USS Finback rescued him. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals for courageous service in the Pacific Theater.

George Harrison
George Harrison,MBE (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian mysticism and helped broaden the horizons of his fellow Beatles as well as their Western audience by incorporating Indian instrumentation in their music. Although the majority of the Beatles' songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions. His songs for the group included "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", the last of which became the Beatles' second-most covered song.
Harrison's earliest musical influences included George Formby and Django Reinhardt; Carl Perkins, Chet Atkins and Chuck Berry were subsequent influences. By 1965 he had begun to lead the Beatles into folk rock through his interest in the Byrds and Bob Dylan, and towards Indian classical music through his use of the sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)". Having initiated the band's embracing of Transcendental Meditation in 1967, he subsequently developed an association with the Hare Krishna movement. After the band's break-up in 1970, Harrison released the triple album All Things Must Pass, a critically acclaimed work that produced his most successful hit single, "My Sweet Lord", and introduced his signature sound as a solo artist, the slide guitar. He also organised the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh with Indian musician Ravi Shankar, a precursor for later benefit concerts such as Live Aid. In his role as a music and film producer, Harrison produced acts signed to the Beatles' Apple record label before founding Dark Horse Records in 1974 and co-founding HandMade Films in 1978.

George W. Bush
George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009, and the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. The eldest son of Barbara and George H. W. Bush, he was born in New Haven, Connecticut. After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, he worked in oil businesses. He married Laura Welch in 1977 and ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives shortly thereafter. He later co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team before defeating Ann Richards in the 1994 Texas gubernatorial election. He was elected president in 2000 after a close and controversial election, becoming the fourth president to be elected while receiving fewer popular votes nationwide than his opponent. He is the second president to have been the son of a former president, the first having been John Quincy Adams. George H. W. Bush
George Herbert Walker Bush (born June 12, 1924) is an American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States (1989–93), and the 43rd Vice President of the United States (1981–89). A Republican, he previously served as a congressman, an ambassador, and Director of Central Intelligence. He is the oldest living former President and Vice President. He is also the last living former President who is a veteran of World War II. Bush is often referred to as "George H. W. Bush", "Bush 41", "Bush the Elder", or "George Bush Sr." to distinguish him from his son, former President George W. Bush. Prior to his son's presidency, he was known simply as George Bush or President Bush.
Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts, to Prescott Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Bush postponed college, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday, and became the youngest aviator in the U.S. Navy at the time. He served until the end of the war, then attended Yale University. Graduating in 1948, he moved his family to West Texas and entered the oil business, becoming a millionaire by the age of 40.

USS George H W Bush ( CVN-77 ) Aircraft Carrier The Largest and Most Powerful Ships Ever Built USS George H W Bush (CVN 77) Aircraft Carrier the Largest and Most Powerful Ships Ever Built Northrop Grumman Newport News built the USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier, CVN 77, the 10th and final ship of the Nimitz Class nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The CVN 77 programme was authorised in 1999 and Northrop Grumman Newport News was awarded the prime contract for construction of CVN 77 in January 2001. Other Video : China's Second Aircraft Carrier Is Almost Complete : The Nimitz Class ships are among the largest and most powerful ships ever built. The tenth Nimitz Class carrier was officially named George H W Bush at a ceremony at the Pentagon in December 2002. The keel-laying ceremony took place at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia in September 2003. The christening ceremony took place in October 2006. The vessel was commissioned on 10 January 2009, prior to the completion of acceptance sea trials in April 2009. George H W Bush aircraft carrier was delivered to the US Navy in May 2009. Improvements incorporated in the new carrier include a new radar tower, navigation and communication systems upgrades, transparent armoured windows, upgraded aircraft launch and recovery equipment and a new fuel system for improved storage and handling of aircraft fuel. The carrier was built using a modular construction of 161 super-lift sections. The super-lift sections are sequentially hoisted and lowered into the dry dock using a 900t crane. CVN 77 USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier design The George H W Bush has the same new bulbous bow design that was used in the CVN 76 USSRonald Reagan, commissioned in 2003. The bulbous bow reduces drag providing improved buoyancy to the forward end of the ship and improved hull efficiency. Other new design features include new propellers and new marine sewage system. The controls on the carrier's bridge and propulsion plant are automated. Safety features include areas of 6 point 4cm-thick Kevlar panels over sections of the hull. Other safety and damage control measures include box protection structures over the magazines and machinery spaces, and also full and empty compartments are located at the sides of the ship. The overall length of the CVN 77 is 332 point 9m and it has a full load displacement of 102,000t with stores, ammunition, fuel and water. The ship carries a crew of over 6,000. There are 3,200 crew with 160 officers and 2,500 aircrew. The ship also accommodates the carrier battle group's flag officer and about 70 flag crew. George H W Bush aircraft The carrier carries typically up to 56 fixed-wing aircraft including the Hornet, F/A-18A,C,E and F, the Grumman EA-6B Prowler and the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye, and up to 15 helicopters, Sikorsky SH-60F, HH-60H Seahawk and SH-60B Seahawks. The flight deck is 332 point 9m long and 76 point 8m wide. The angle flight deck is 76 point 8m long. The angled flight deck allows the landing aircraft the option of accelerating safely away if required, minimising the danger of colliding with stationary aircraft on deck. The carrier can launch aircraft at a rate of one every 20 seconds. The deck has four C13-2 steam catapults and three mk7 mod 3-type arrester wires. The carrier has four deck edge elevators. The deck edge elevators allow large aircraft to project over the side of the ship. Two starboard lifts are forward of the island and one is to the aft of the island, and the port lift is also aft of the island towards the stern. The hangar deck, (7 point 8m high) has capacity for up to about 30 aircraft, depending on the composition of air wing. The ship carries 8,500t of aviation fuel. Weapons Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems at Moorestown, New Jersey was selected as the CVN 77 warfare systems integrator in January 2000. The warfare systems include sensors, communications systems, aircraft control systems, armaments and other electronics systems on the ship. The CVN 77's combat data systems are based on the advanced combat direction system with communications Links 4A, 11, and 16. Weapons control is managed by three mk91 mod 1 M F C S directors for the Sea Sparrow missile. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) returned to their homeports in Norfolk, Va., Whidbey Island, Wash. and Mayport, Fla., Nov 15. The GHWB CSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8), Destroyer Squadron 22 (CDS 22), the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and the guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). The Strike Group, which deployed on 15 February, steamed a total of 73,400 nautical miles throughout two different AORs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) as well as Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) efforts while working with joint, coalition and allied forces. Northrop Grumman Newport News built the USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier, CVN 77, the 10th and final ship of the Nimitz Class nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The CVN 77 programme was authorised in 1999 and Northrop Grumman Newport News was awarded the prime contract for construction of CVN 77 in January 2001.

The Nimitz Class ships are among the largest and most powerful ships ever built. The tenth Nimitz Class carrier was officially named George H W Bush at a ceremony at the Pentagon in December 2002. The keel-laying ceremony took place at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia in September 2003. The christening ceremony took place in October 2006. The vessel was commissioned on 10 January 2009, prior to the completion of acceptance sea trials in April 2009. George H W Bush aircraft carrier was delivered to the US Navy in May 2009.
Improvements incorporated in the new carrier include a new radar tower, navigation and communication systems upgrades, transparent armoured windows, upgraded aircraft launch and recovery equipment and a new fuel system for improved storage and handling of aircraft fuel.
The carrier was built using a modular construction of 161 super-lift sections. The super-lift sections are sequentially hoisted and lowered into the dry dock using a 900t crane.
CVN 77 USSGeorge H W Bush aircraft carrier design
The George H W Bush has the same new bulbous bow design that was used in the CVN 76 USSRonald Reagan, commissioned in 2003. The bulbous bow reduces drag providing improved buoyancy to the forward end of the ship and improved hull efficiency. Other new design features include new propellers and new marine sewage system. The controls on the carrier's bridge and propulsion plant are automated.
Safety features include areas of 6 point 4cm-thick Kevlar panels over sections of the hull. Other safety and damage control measures include box protection structures over the magazines and machinery spaces, and also full and empty compartments are located at the sides of the ship.
The overall length of the CVN 77 is 332 point 9m and it has a full load displacement of 102,000t with stores, ammunition, fuel and water. The ship carries a crew of over 6,000. There are 3,200 crew with 160 officers and 2,500 aircrew. The ship also accommodates the carrier battle group's flag officer and about 70 flag crew.
George H W Bush aircraft
The carrier carries typically up to 56 fixed-wing aircraft including the Hornet, F/A-18A,C,E and F, the Grumman EA-6B Prowler and the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye, and up to 15 helicopters, Sikorsky SH-60F, HH-60H Seahawk and SH-60B Seahawks.
The flight deck is 332 point 9m long and 76 point 8m wide. The angle flight deck is 76 point 8m long. The angled flight deck allows the landing aircraft the option of accelerating safely away if required, minimising the danger of colliding with stationary aircraft on deck.
The carrier can launch aircraft at a rate of one every 20 seconds. The deck has four C13-2 steam catapults and three mk7 mod 3-type arrester wires.
The carrier has four deck edge elevators. The deck edge elevators allow large aircraft to project over the side of the ship. Two starboard lifts are forward of the island and one is to the aft of the island, and the port lift is also aft of the island towards the stern. The hangar deck, (7 point 8m high) has capacity for up to about 30 aircraft, depending on the composition of air wing. The ship carries 8,500t of aviation fuel.
Weapons
Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems at Moorestown, New Jersey was selected as the CVN 77 warfare systems integrator in January 2000. The warfare systems include sensors, communications systems, aircraft control systems, armaments and other electronics systems on the ship.
The CVN 77's combat data systems are based on the advanced combat direction system with communications Links 4A, 11, and 16. Weapons control is managed by three mk91 mod 1 M F C S directors for the Sea Sparrow missile.
The ship is armed with two or three Raytheon G ML S mk29 octuple missile launchers for the N A T

NORFOLK, Va. (Nov. 15, 2014) After completing a nine-month deployment in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Operations (AOR), the ships and squadrons of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) returned to their homeports in Norfolk, Va., Whidbey Island, Wash. and Mayport, Fla., Nov 15.
The GHWB CSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8), Destroyer Squadron 22 (CDS 22), the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and the guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). The Strike Group, which deployed on 15 February, steamed a total of 73,400 nautical miles throughout two different AORs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) as well as Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) efforts while working with joint, coalition and allied forces.
