Dodji

Dodji is a town in north central Senegal, with a 2007 estimated population of 8281. It is in the Louga Region, Linguère Department, and the Dodji Arrondissement, which consists of the Communauté rurales of Dodji, Labgar, and Ouarkhokh. Though a separate administrative unit, Dodji falls under the Commune of Dahra - Linguère. As of 2007, Dodji's highest administrative official, (Président de Communauté Rurale) is Math Coueladio Ba, formerly of the Senegalese Socialist Party, now allied to the ruling PDS.

Dodji Airport is a 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) long sand landing strip.

History

Dodji is situated in a semi-arid savanna zone, with few permanent settlements until the decades before the Second World War. The town was founded by young Wolof members of the Mouride brotherhood, as many areas in eastern Senegal previously uninhabited, were settled and communities established as part of the movement's drive to find land and livelihoods for Senegal's population. That Dodji remained an isolated backwater is evinced by the deportation of strike leaders from Dakar to here after a general strike called by the Dakar branch of the Union Nationale des Travailleurs du Sénégal (UNTS) in May 1963. The area around Dodji, historically very sparsely populated, has also been used by the French military as a live fire training ground.

Parni Valjak

Parni valjak (pronounced [pâːrniː ʋǎːʎak]; Croatian: 'steamroller') is a Croatian and former Yugoslav rock band. They were one of the top acts of the former Yugoslav rock scene, and currently one of the top rock-and-roll bands in Croatia.

Biography

Parni valjak was founded in 1975. Unlike many rock bands that would come later, their style was becoming more mainstream, becoming closer to pop, especially compared with the bands like Prljavo kazalište or Film.

As years went by, their refusal to change style proved to be the important factor in the band's longevity. They kept a loyal following in 1980s and in 1990s, refusing to allow elements of folk and turbo folk music to become part of their repertoire. Because of that the band enjoys great respect among many Croatian rock critics, being seen as the embodiment of "true" rock and urban culture and many of their songs are considered evergreens in the former Yugoslavia like "Sve još miriše na nju", "Jesen u meni", "Ugasi me" and "Zastave". Parni valjak kept a relatively small but dedicated following for 30 years, and many people tend to gather at their concerts that feature energetic performances, despite advanced age of the band's members: Aki Rahimovski - vocals, Husein Hasanefendić-Hus - guitars, Marijan Brkić Brk - guitars, Berislav Blažević-Bero - keyboards, Zvonimir Bučević-Buč - bass guitar, Dražen Scholz-Šolc - drums, Tina Rupčić - vocal, Anita Mlinarić - sax.

Nikad izvini

Nikad izvini (English: Never sorry) was a political satire television show in Serbia which sometimes also treated the subject in a surreal way. It ran every day on Pink television, between August 2003 and April 2005, following all "Pink" afternoon news. In the late September 2008, after a pause of three years, it has been announced that show would be returned to network`s broadcast programming; however, it has not been done yet.

Idea and creation

Script writer and director of project, Srđan Češić, had the idea for the project as early as in the year 2000, following Overthrow of Slobodan Milošević, when Serbian medias began promoting freedom of speech, as well as any government criticism. Basic idea was British puppet show Spitting Image, which ran on Central Independent Television until 1996.

Authors of serial were claiming that Nikad izvini was offered to RTS and TV B92, but was refused. Finally, at the beginning of 2003, authors signed a contract with TV Pink- very popular, but frequently criticised network. Project was joined by puppet designers Roko Radovanović and Miroslav Lakobrija, puppet animators Cvetin Aničić, Sanela Milošević, Petar Konkoj, Ivana Peterski, Goran Filipaš and Marija Malbaša. The main actor was theatre Atelje 212`s Srđan Miletić, who performed almost all roles, with assistance of his colleagues, Srđan Jovanović and Oliver Đaja. Series were promoted at the beginning of August 2003, what was followed by first air, on the 10 August.
