Josephine Grace "Jo" Brand (born 23 July 1957) is an English comedian, writer and actress. Starting her entertainment career with a move from psychiatric nursing to the alternative comedy stand-up scene and early performances on Saturday Live, she went on to appear on The Brain Drain, Channel 4's Jo Brand Through the Cakehole, Getting On and various television appearances including as a regular guest on QI, Have I Got News for You and Would I Lie to You?.

Brand was born in Wandsworth, London. Her mother was a social worker and her father was a structural engineer. Brand is the middle of three children, with two brothers. Legendary comedian Jo Brand gives one of her widest-ranging interviews ever in our first Chat Life interview! Jo defends her joke about Prince Harry taking drugs, and says it's only fair that the Royal Family "have the piss taken out of them" every now and then. She picks her favourite comedian of all time, considers the extent to which her routines are based on reality, and tells us why she doesn't watch young up and coming comedy talent. Our interviewer, Oscar, also attempts to do an impression of her (shown after the credits) - "attempts" being the crucial word, here... Jo gives her verdict on the current state of the NHS, and whether she values her time as a psychiatric nurse more than her current role as a celebrity comedian. Of course, we chat a little about politics too -- you c...

Jo does her usual stand up in a Wolverhampton brewery, interspersed with the antics of her supposed road crew as they stumble from venue to venue, in an ever more chaotic fashion. I imagine a lot of it was improvised, and these are the best bits, Ricky Grover is the stand out for me, although it's a great ensemble piece. The seeming on screen camaraderie is born out by Brand & Grover working together again, some 13 years later in the BBC's black comedy 'Getting On'. Plus a great chance to see the highly influential & completely bonkers Malcolm Hardee, now sadly departed. Enjoy!

I told my...
Shoot my... from the floor
You wished you was sleeping
As I stood at the door
Once more is here
God only knows where
That's what it hit me
I was already there
Chorus:
I... thousand miles and more
Never find a... I've seen you arise me for
Give me the freedom to go my whole way
But she gave me much more
You gave me the freedom to stay
Walk it on room
You're too... wish on star
Searching for heaven
Well I know where you are
Laugh is just empty when you walk alone
So river where going girl
Lord is good to be hold
Chorus:
I... thousand miles and more
Never find a... I've seen you arise me for
Give me the freedom to go my whole way
But she gave me much more
