《羅密歐與茱麗葉》 蘇州芭蕾舞團 編創的中式芭蕾舞劇 全劇 Ying Li, Suzhou Ballet Theatre Director In 1987 Ying Li graduated from Beijing Dance Academy and was titled as a principal dancer in National Ballet of China. In 1992 she was invited to be a principle dancer in Ballet Met, Columbus, US. Two years later she joined Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and performed as a leading ballerina till her retirement from stage in 2006. In 2006, Ying Li joined SSCAC Ballet Theatre as ballet mistress and company director. She devoted herself to choreography. Artistic Director Jiabin Pan Jiabin Pan was selected to study in Beijing in 1980 and graduated from Beijing Dance Academy and was accepted as a principle dancer in National Ballet of China in 1987. In 1992 he was invited to be a principle dancer in Ballet Met, Columbus, US. Two years later he joined Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and performed as a principle dancer till his retirement form stage in 2006. In 2006, Jiabin Pan returned to his hometown Suzhou and helped SSCAC build the sixth ballet company in China. As the ballet master and artistic director, he devoted himself to choreography. Suzhou Ballet Theatre Suzhou Ballet Theatre was established and founded by Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre in June of 2007. It is the only professional ballet company in Jiangsu Province and one of six in China. The Theatre incorporates original works and aspires to produce new pieces while trying to develop each dancer to their fullest potential. The company members originate from major ballet theaters in China, including the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy. With an average age of 23 years, this group is the youngest and most energetic in modern China. The company has performed many classical pas-de-deux, such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty, and Coppelia. Led by artistic director Jiabin Pan, the dancers have created Double Happiness in Chinese traditional style, the symphonic neo-classic Chopin’s Poem, and the rock ballet Dancing on Rock. Promoting Suzhou’s local culture, the Theatre has presented Su Show, Umbrella, and A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge. In 2009, Suzhou Ballet Theatre re-created Romeo and Juliet, resulting in an original, modern Chinese ballet which sets itself apart from the many other version of this classic. In 2011, the Theatre chose Coppelia as its annual performance. The project creatively displays the innovative characteristics of the company, leaving room to stimulate the audience’s imagination. In 2012, the company created The Legend of Beauty, which portrays an immortal legend intertwined with love and hate, war and romance based on Suzhou culture, national feature and historical background of Wu-Yue completion for hegemony. In March and June 2012, the company’s Chinese style Romeo and Juliet was performed successfully in Shanghai Grand Theatre and National Centre for the Performing Arts – two art palaces of highest level in China, which was a splendid addition to the history of Suzhou Ballet Theatre. Under the artistic guidance of directors Ying Li and Jiabin Pan, Suzhou Ballet Theatre has quickly developed into one of the most renowned ballet companies in China. Their new works are always widely acknowledged and receive much attention. As the Chinese Dance critics said, “Suzhou Ballet Theatre will become an impressive group in China.”
