Nicks has said that she wrote this song while she was contemplating going back to school or continuing on with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.
Buckingham/Nicks had been dropped by Polydor Records and she and Buckingham were not getting along.
She wrote the song while visiting Aspen, Colorado, sitting in someone's living room "looking out at the Rocky Mountains pondering the avalanche of everything that had come crashing down on us ... at that moment, my life truly felt like a landslide in many ways"

WARNING: Foul Language! My husband, Bret Edwards and fellow co-workers were working on clearing small debris from Hwy 14 near Elk City, Id. when all heck broke loose! This has been a problem area for sometime, so whenever small rocks start coming down they get out of the way and wait for it to stop trickling. Bret usually gets out his phone and shoots some video just in case. This time it payed off! This was a very close call for the entire crew, things could have turned out much worse. Not only was there the threat of a massive landslide, there are overhead power lines that came crashing down onto the front loader and right where Bret was standing. This is a crazy, real life scary moment. I am thankful to still have him, and the rest of the guys! No one was injured. In the winter, this highway is the only way in and out of Elk City, Dixie and other small communities up river. Thank you for viewing. This video belongs to Bret and Londa Edwards. A landslide or landslip is a geological phenomenon which includes a wide range of ground movement, such as rockfalls, deep failure of slopes and shallow debris flows, which can occur in offshore, coastal and onshore environments. Although the action of gravity is the primary driving force for a landslide to occur, there are other contributing factors affecting the original slope stability. Typically, pre-conditional factors build up specific sub-surface conditions that make the area/slope prone to failure, whereas the actual landslide often requires a trigger before being released.
Landslides occur when the stability of a slope changes from a stable to an unstable condition. A change in the stability of a slope can be caused by a number of factors, acting together or alone. Natural causes of landslides include:

Slope material that becomes saturated with water may develop into a debris flow or mud flow. The resulting slurry of rock and mud may pick up trees, houses and cars, thus blocking bridges and tributaries causing flooding along its path.

WARNING: Foul Language! My husband, Bret Edwards and fellow co-workers were working on clearing small debris from Hwy 14 near Elk City, Id. when all heck broke loose! This has been a problem area for sometime, so whenever small rocks start coming down they get out of the way and wait for it to stop trickling. Bret usually gets out his phone and shoots some video just in case. This time it payed off! This was a very close call for the entire crew, things could have turned out much worse. WARNING: Foul Language! My husband, Bret Edwards and fellow co-workers were working on clearing small debris from Hwy 14 near Elk City, Id. when all heck broke loose! This has been a problem area for sometime, so whenever small rocks start coming down they get out of the way and wait for it to stop trickling. Bret usually gets out his phone and shoots some video just in case. This time it payed off! This was a very close call for the entire crew, things could have turned out much worse. Not only was there the threat of a massive landslide, there are overhead power lines that came crashing down onto the front loader and right where Bret was standing. This is a crazy, real life scary moment. I am thankful to still have him, and the rest of the guys! No one was injured. In the winter, this highway is the only way in and out of Elk City, Dixie and other small communities up river. Thank you for viewing. This video belongs to Bret and Londa Edwards. Heart-throbbing Landslide Recorded in South China
The fleeting moment of a heart-throbbing sight of a landslide was recorded by a drive recorder of a car. The recording shows tons of rocks pouring down the slope, blocking the road, with a mini-bus narrowly escaping the disaster. This happened at 08:56 on Monday in the Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The car that recorded the landslide stopped at a turn when the driver found some rocks falling. He then tried to back up when a mini-bus tried to overtake him. It was at that moment, tons of rocks were pouring down the slope. The local government immediately sent people to remove the rocks and rush-repair the road. Pakistan searches for 23 people trapped by landslides
Peshawar, Pakistan: Pakistani rescuers were struggling on Wednesday to reach 23 people buried by a landslide in the north after heavy rains on the weekend that authorities said have killed at least 92.
National disaster management authorities said more than 1,200 houses have been damaged since April 2, with roads across the mountainous north blocked.
Communications have been knocked out across much of the region, making it difficult to tell how many people are still stranded, amid fears the toll could still rise.
Authorities in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said they are still battling to reach the 23 buried by the landslide in Kohistan district on Monday.
Rescuers were also searching along the northern Karakoram Highway (KKH) for travellers trapped by rockfalls.

Pakistan searches for 23 people trapped by landslides

The fleeting moment of a heart-throbbing sight of a landslide was recorded by a drive recorder of a car.
The recording shows tons of rocks pouring down the slope, blocking the road, with a mini-bus narrowly escaping the disaster.
This happened at 08:56 on Monday in the Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The car that recorded the landslide stopped at a turn when the driver found some rocks falling. He then tried to back up when a mini-bus tried to overtake him. It was at that moment, tons of rocks were pouring down the slope.
The local government immediately sent people to remove the rocks and rush-repair the road. Now the blocked road has been opened and no injuries or death were caused by the landslide.

Although the basic pattern is fairly simple, there are a lot of nuances as the song progresses along. On the 29th of April 1978, a quick clay landslide devastated large areas of the rural district of Rissa I mid-Norway. One person died whilst 13 farms; 2 homes; a cabin and a community centre were taken by the clay masses. Five to six million cubic metres of clay collapsed from an area of 330,000 m2 leaving a 1.5 kilometre slide face. This is such a great solo! Lindsey Buckingham makes it look easy, but it's actually quite tricky to play! The biggest thing here is that you are playing a melody while maintaining the travis pick which leads to all sorts of cool variations and sounds. It's very disciplined playing and will take most guys a while to get down, but once you do, it really sounds amazing and is a lot of fun to play. Keeping the meter is also key to making this sound good and is one thing that LB is really good at, his travis pick is like a metronome!

Although the basic pattern is fairly simple, there are a lot of nuances as the song progresses along. In this acoustic guitar lesson I'll attempt to combine the 4 acoustic guitar parts into something you can play on one.
The guitar I'm playing here is an Ovation Balladeer. I've owned this guitar a long time.

On the 29th of April 1978, a quick clay landslide devastated large areas of the rural district of Rissa I mid-Norway. One person died whilst 13 farms; 2 homes; a cabin and a community centre were taken by the clay masses.
Five to six million cubic metres of clay collapsed from an area of 330,000 m2 leaving a 1.5 kilometre slide face. The landslide caused great material damage to the community of Leira when a resulting three-metre high floodwave breached the opposite bank of lake Botnen shortly after the main slide.
The Rissa landslide was caught on 8 mm cinefilm by two film amateurs. This is still used actively in avalanche preventative and educational work.

US Army and USMC forces have been tasked with a joint-attack on an enemy occupied airfield across the bay from a US military COP, COP Avenger.
The assault will take place in two phases. Marine forces will make a beach landing N of the Paraiso airfield in order to clear out enemy AA forces so the US Army Air Assault troopers can make a safe landing in a forward position and conduct a joint-attack on the airfield and city.
I am leading the Task Force, callsign "Goliath 6"
USMC platoon - "Gambler 1"
US Army platoon - "Havoc 1"
JTAC - "Dagger 2-2"

A: i5 Ivy Bridge 3570k; 120 gig SSD; 1tb Standard HD(for recording); 8 gigs ram; nVidia Geforce GTX 770 (I run ArmA anywhere between 20-60 FPS, on med-high settings)

A: Fraps for video and system audio; Audacity for personal audio.
Q: Why don't you play in First Person?
A: I'm a 3rd person gamer. I hate first person. It's unrealistically restricting. Please don't try to "convince" me otherwise as if I am unaware of the gaming style I prefer.
Q: Were you in the Military?
A: US Army 99-06, Radio Operator(25C). Non-Combat Veteran.
Q: Is that AI or real people?
A: If it's an ArmA Mission it's AI unless I very specifically state otherwise. The 506th doesn't PvP.
Q: What ArmA 3 mods do you use?
A: AiATP, RHS Escalation, CBA A3, TFAR, ACE3, cTab, FHQ Accessories, ASDG Joint Rails, DAR MAXXPROs, grace weapon sway fix, Ares, mrb A3 Voice Stop, Robert Hammer Pistols, Switch Weapons While Moving
I am no longer using any iteration of JSRS due to the problems it causes on servers. It was discovered by me in Feb 2015 that all versions of JSRS for the past 4 years have been causing massive amounts of errors on dedicated servers so it has stopped being used and I don't use another sound mod.

These mounds can remain stable for thousands of years. Then comes the fateful day, however, on which the inner stability of a mound is disturbed, and gigantic masses of debris and mud careen downhill: These peaceful mounds then become deadly landslides. The causes differ: heavy rainfall, melting ice, deforestation, earthquakes.

Just before 11 a.m. on March 22, 2014, an ominous rumble startled the residents of the community of Oso, Washington, about an hour’s drive from Seattle. It was the terrifying sound of what would become the United States’ deadliest landslide in decades. The equivalent of one million dump truck loads of earth came plummeting down the valley. In a little over two minutes, a pile of debris up to 75 feet deep slammed into the neighborhood of close to 50 homes. While a massive search and rescue effort continues at the site, geologists are tracing the geological history of Oso to explain why the site was so unstable. But all around the world, scientists have reason to fear that the worst is yet to come. Globally, landslides and other ground failures take a tremendous human and economic toll, and with climate change bringing a sharp rise in intense precipitation events in many countries, the threat of bigger, more frequent landslides, like one that buried at least 350 people in Afghanistan this spring, is growing. In the Himalayas, the threat of devastating landslides is always lurking. As NOVA surveys landslide danger zones, discover how and why landslides happen, and how radar monitoring technologies could help predict landslides and issue life-saving warnings.

Just before 11 a.m. on March 22, 2014, an ominous rumble startled the residents of the community of Oso, Washington, about an hour’s drive from Seattle. It was the terrifying sound of what would become the United States’ deadliest landslide in decades. The equivalent of one million dump truck loads of earth came plummeting down the valley. In a little over two minutes, a pile of debris up to 75 feet deep slammed into the neighborhood of close to 50 homes. While a massive search and rescue effort continues at the site, geologists are tracing the geological history of Oso to explain why the site was so unstable. But all around the world, scientists have reason to fear that the worst is yet to come. Globally, landslides and other ground failures take a tremendous human and economic toll, and with climate change bringing a sharp rise in intense precipitation events in many countries, the threat of bigger, more frequent landslides, like one that buried at least 350 people in Afghanistan this spring, is growing. In the Himalayas, the threat of devastating landslides is always lurking. (03/22/2014 10:53 PDT) A massive landslide filled with mud, rocks, and trees, ended up decimating a small community of Oso, which is located just west of Darrington, WA. 3 people were deceased from this scene, and 8 people were injured (3 critically) including a 6 month old baby. The landslide covered SR 530 between Milepost 31 and 32, washed out several local roadways, and destroyed 6 homes. The slide was estimated to be at least 135 feet wide by 180 feet deep and stretched about a mile from where it broke off from the north side of the North Fork Stillaguamish River.
As you could probably imagine, it was a extremely stressful situation as they were trying to prioritized the injured, coordinating airlift, evacuations, and watching the hillside for any additional movements that could jeopardize the rescue operations and put more people at risk. The audio was recorded between 11:13 to 14:41 PDT and although the situation on the radio traffic started to calm down a bit, it is still a massive rescue operation. According to Snohomish County Fire District #21, firefighters and rescuers are still hearing people crying for help as the rescue operations continued on into the night. The rescue operation will probably continue on into Sunday as they will continue to search through the area for anyone else missing.
Because the landslide slid across the river, it has formed a natural bank that is blocking the flow of the river. That is now causing a flooding concern up stream towards the Darrington area and even downstream as there is some uncertainty as of how this natural bank would break apart and how much water could be flowing below. Snohomish County Sheriff's Office isn't taking any chances and urged residences east and west of Oso to be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice.
For those who have the capability to listen to a scanner within the county, I would keep on listening tomorrow.
In the mean time, the Washington State Department of Transportation posted some aerial photos of the landslide and the photos speak for itself as of how big this landslide was .This was indeed one of the biggest and the worst landslide to hit the state in over 30 years.

Two British teenagers accused of battering an alcoholic woman to death in 2014 have been sentenced to life in prison. The two girls, now 15, were convicted of murdering 39-year-old Angela Wrightson on April 5 after an eight-week crown court trail in Leeds, England, the Guardian reported.
