On this episode of
Collider Mail Bag (Saturday
November 14th 2015) we take the following viewer emails:
Daniel writes:
Hey Collider crew, quick question. Lucasfilm seem to run quite similar to how
Marvel do (
Disney Obviously). Marvel has
Kevin Fiege, Lucasfilm has
Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm has (in terms of directors):
Abrams,
Evans,
Johnson,
Lord &
Miller, and Trevorrow. Marvel has: Favreau,
Johnston,
Branagh, Whedon,
Black,
Taylor, Russo's,
Gunn, Reed, Derrickson. My question is who does it better?
John Henderson writes:
Hello guys I love the show which movie is worse the star wars prequels or mortal kombat annihilation or green lantern? Your choice
Michael Arnold writes: In a recent episode the panel named their favorite romantic comedies. That got me thinking. Though I love of me some good romantic comedies, I'm hard-pressed to name more than handful of movies that I genuinely love. I really enjoy romantic comedies like
Harold & Maude,
When Harry Met Sally...,
Love Actually etc. But it seems to me that for every one of those films, there's 10 clunkers like anything starring
Kate Hudson or
Katherine Heigl. Is there any other genre that can produce such gems but mostly turns out dreck? Why is it so hard to make a good romantic comedy?
Bosko Borjanovic writes:
Love your show! I'm sure you remember the movie
Amadeus, from
1984. The movie received 8
Academy Awards. I was wondering why movie makers never got inspired by other geniuses like
Albert Einstein,
Leonardo Da Vinci,
Johann Sebastian Bach...and many more.
Thanks!
Laila Ujayli writes: Hi Collider crew!
Thank you so much for all the great content! My question is about whitewashing in
Hollywood.
Seeing the casting of two white leads for
Death Note, an
adaptation of a
Japanese manga, and the predominantly white cast of
Gods of Egypt is pretty disappointing. I know the actors cast in these roles must be talented, but in my opinion, whitewashing detracts from the authenticity of the film. Is it too much to ask that
Egyptian gods look somewhat
Egyptian? How many flops like
Exodus will it take for studio execs to start casting people of color in roles that ask for people of color?
Alan Weeks writes: I recently saw
The Intern and thought the movie and
De Niro's performance was a pleasant surprise. It seemed like he didn't mail this movie in. With that said do you think De Niro will continue to not mail it in and have a
Oscar worthy performance before his career comes to an end? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Kevin Walters writes: Are you concerned for WB's regarding their strange decisions of writer and director picks for their upcoming DC films? Shouldn't they be pursuing well experienced talent to handle these massive projects? Properties like
Wonder Woman,
Aquaman, and the
Flash are visual effects heavy films and I would want the best director/writer for the job to masterfully orchestrate the movie.
Luis Suarez writes: Hey guys, greetings from
Colombia.
I've been following you for almost a year and I love your shows. My question is in regards to he-man; have you heard that
Mike O'hearn has been cast for the main role? I was wondering what do you guys think about it, do you think it is smart since he looks the part but I mainly know the guy for his background in body building so is it a risky move or do you think he could be the next Arnold, thanks and bring on the filthy.
