Overwatch healing, biotics and nanobiology - how could Mercy's healing tech work, how is it related to Ana and S76, and what real-life science theory could back it up? In this episode I’m delving into Medical Technology in Overwatch - nano biology, and biotics - these are fairly key to the story in several ways, entwined with Mercy, Ana, and Soldier 76, and healing and damage boosting tech in the game, so it’s an interesting topic to try to understand more about! We see three four main applications of the “applied Nanobiology” that is cited as Mercy’s specialism in her profile. Healing (wounds) - Mercy’s healing with her Cadeceus Staff, Ana’s Biotic Rifle and Biotic Bomb healing, and S76’s Biotic Field all are healing examples we see in-game, with one of them also shown out of game in the canon lore. Damaging (“poison” like effect). - Ana’s dual-purpose Biotic rounds and bomb also showing the potential for nanobiological technology to damage too. Prevention of healing/other healing tech, in-game, with Ana’s biotic bomb. ”Boosting” or augmentation/enhancing effect (Mercy Beam, Ana Nano Boost) - increasing damage, speed, and even reducing damage taken. Outside of those applications, there’s a few related pieces of technology in terms of “TARGETING” and DELIVERY of these medical solutions - Ana’s rounds (different effects on friend and foe) and Mercy’s beam (lock on effect). All these are investigated and more in game theory and lore speculation!
