The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For the majority of their history, the band consisted of Sting (lead singer, bassist and principal songwriter), Andy Summers (guitarist) and Stewart Copeland (drummer). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first new wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. They are also considered one of the leaders of the Second British Invasion of the U.S. They disbanded in 1986, but reunited in early 2007 for a one-off world tour that ended in August 2008.
Their 1978 debut album, Outlandos d'Amour, reached No. 6 in the UK, and their second album Reggatta de Blanc became the first of five consecutive UK No. 1 albums.Synchronicity from 1983 was No. 1 in both the UK and U.S., selling over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone. The Police have sold over 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. They were the world's highest-earning musicians in 2008, thanks to their reunion tour.
Montserrat (/mɒntsəˈræt/) is a Caribbean island—specifically in the Leeward Islands, which is part of the chain known as the Lesser Antilles, in the British West Indies. It is a British Overseas Territory. Montserrat measures approximately 16 km (10 mi) long and 11 km (7 mi) wide, with approximately 40 km (25 mi) of coastline. Montserrat is nicknamed The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants.
On 18 July 1995, the previously dormant Soufrière Hills volcano, in the southern part of the island, became active. Eruptions destroyed Montserrat's Georgian era capital city of Plymouth. Between 1995 and 2000, two-thirds of the island's population was forced to flee, primarily to the United Kingdom. The volcanic activity continues, mostly affecting the vicinity of Plymouth, including its docking facilities, and the eastern side of the island around the former W. H. Bramble Airport, the remnants of which were buried by flows from volcanic activity on 11 February 2010.

Holland is a published author and appears on television shows besides his own and contributes to radio shows. In 2004, he collaborated with Tom Jones on an album of traditional R&B music. Holland was educated at Shooters Hill Grammar School, a former state grammar school on Red Lion Lane in Shooter's Hill (near Woolwich), in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in southeast London, from which he was expelled for damaging a teacher's Triumph Herald.
Stewart Armstrong Copeland (born July 16, 1952) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer best known as the drummer for the English rock band The Police and for his film music soundtracks. He has also written various pieces of music for ballet, opera and orchestra. According to MusicRadar, Copeland’s "distinctive drum sound and uniqueness of style has made him one of the most popular drummers to ever get behind a drumset". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police in 2003 and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2005.
Stewart Armstrong Copeland was born in Alexandria, Virginia on July 16, 1952, the youngest of four children of CIA officer Miles Copeland, Jr. and Scottish archaeologist Lorraine Adie. The family moved to Cairo, Egypt, a few months after his birth, and Copeland spent his formative years in the Middle East. In 1957, the family moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and Copeland attended the American Community School there. He started taking drum lessons at age twelve and was playing drums for school dances within a year. Later he moved to England and attended Millfield from 1967 to 1969. Copeland went to college in California, attending United States International University and UC Berkeley. Returning to England, he worked as road manager for the progressive rock band Curved Air's 1974 reunion tour, and then as drummer for the band during 1975 and 1976.
A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a sovereign state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors; however, gendarmerie are military units charged with civil policing.
Law enforcement, however, constitutes only part of policing activity. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Many police forces suffer from police corruption to a greater or lesser degree. The police force is usually a public sector service, meaning they are paid through taxes.

official trailer for Cant Stand Losing You - Surviving The Police Based on the acclaimed memoir One Train Later by rock guitarist Andy Summers, Can’t Stand Losing You follows Summers' journey from his early days in psychedelic ‘60s music scene, when he played with The Animals, to chance encounters with drummer Stewart Copeland and bassist Sting, which led to the formation of a punk trio, The Police. During the band’s phenomenal rise and its dissolution at the height of their popularity in the mid-80s, Summers captured history with his candid photographs. Utilizing rare archival footage and insights from the guitarist’s side of the stage, Can't Stand Losing You brings together past and present as the band members reunite, two decades later, for a global reunion tour in 2007.

The Police - Stewart Armstrong Copeland & son of Miles Axe Copeland Jr. , Andrew James "Andy" Summers & Sting a.k.a. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner are live in the ABC studios talking to Molly Meldrum about many things which to fans like myself may of never of known until now because we were to young! I find it interesting when Stewart starts to talk about Klark Kent and his background and seeing the other two looking around and Sting with his hands around his mouth almost trying to almost shoosh Stewart to be quiet especially when one three letter organization is mentioned and Stewart should know these three letter organizations as well as anybody in the public could ever possibly of known,(Google his father & see for yourself) I don't know but I find this body language very interesting an...
Interviews with Stewart, Andy and Sting at Melbourne Showground on the day of the final concert of their Synchronicity Tour on March 4, 1984. This was broadcast a week later on ABC's "Countdown" program. Chopped rather heavy-handedly during broadcast recording (I presumably didn't want the other program stuff) I have further edited it to tidy it up a little.
A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown 'End of the Decade' special, a retrospective of the music of the 1970s, which originally aired on December 16, 1979, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of British band The Police, featuring band members Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum. The interview begins, after a short clip of The Police's 'Message In A Bottle', with Molly asking the band about their relatively fast success, having kept Fleetwood Mac from the Number 1 position in the UK for a long time. A discussion is then had about how The Police achieved the success they have. Also discussed is h...

Stewart Copeland of The Police Reminisces About the '82 US Festival. "We were sold on the idea of coming to this festival in that it would be the opposite of Woodstock. It's absolutely comfortable, the grass is clean, the sound system is pristine. It was a really great experience, and the 'US' Festival was really the precursor to that. The idea that a festival isn't misery. The Festival still resonates. It was not Woodstock. It should've been, considering the talent." - Stewart Copeland, 2012 ABOUT THE FILM Regarded as the Woodstock of the 80's, the 'US' Festival captured the mindset of a culture on the cusp of a technology transformation. Deployed on hundreds of dangerous operations to bring down terrorists, killers and hostage takers, he has been behind some of the UK's most controversial police shootings. But it was the death of Azelle Rodney that landed him in court for murder and brought his career to a devastating end. Speaking for the first time on television, in this Secret History film Long reveals what it is like to shoot and kill people in the line of duty, and how his life crumbled around him during the Rodney case.
