In this talk, I will give an overview of the Concepts Lite language extension for C++ and present examples of its use in design and implementation of real-world generic libraries. Concepts Lite provides the ability for programmers to directly state constraints on template arguments as part of the template declaration. These constraints are predicates which determine whether or not a template argument can be used with that template. Constraints are checked by the compiler at the point of use, meaning that that effectively constrained generic libraries will not suffer from the usual problems of insane diagnostics. Libraries written using concepts will be far more readable and maintainable than the status quo. This talk will focus on generic programming, proposed language features, and their use in building real-world libraries.
Concepts Lite is a forthcoming ISO Technical Specification (TS) aimed at publication alongside C++14. Concepts Lite is implemented in a branch of GCC, which will be made available to the audience for experiments and experience.

Ohio has been facing a number of attempts at voter suppression the last ten years.
The church driven 'Souls to the polls' had been decimated, the length of lines waiting to vote stretched out into the night on Tuesday election days and there was even an attempt to force people to show state identification to cast a vote.
Well this has led Jon Husted, the Ohio Secretary of State to put out an opinion editorial piece in the New York Times.
In it Jon Husted states that the PEW Charitable Trust ranks Ohio as a state moved up in ranks in transparent voting access moved up from 37 to 24.

If the walls could talk what would they say about Jon Husted?
Well Alicia Reese is not waiting. She has spearheaded a voter bill of rights campaign and tonight I finally met two of the potential petition signature gatherers at a neighborhood association meeting.
Well it's a start.
We'll see how the numbers track back around by the end of September.
They're like unicorns. At least two signature gatherers at every event should do the trick. /snark

Ohio (

The church driven 'Souls to the polls' had been decimated, the length of lines waiting to vote stretched out into the night on Tuesday election days and there was even an attempt to force people to show state identification to cast a vote. Collective Bargaining as a Fundamental Right: Competing Perspectives and Arguments Abstract: The role of collective bargaining in the United States is currently the topic of considerable debate and interest. In recent months, legislators in several states, including Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan, enacted legislation to impose limits on the right of collective bargaining, particularly in the public sectors. In this talk, I examine the competing perspectives and arguments about the rationale for collective bargaining in both the private and public sectors. We will also talk about the rationale for union security agreements relative to right-to-work and the role of unions in politics. -

Concepts Lite is a forthcoming ISO Technical Specification (TS) aimed at publication alongside C++14. Concepts Lite is implemented in a branch of GCC, which will be made available to the audience for experiments and experience.

Andrew Sutton is an assistant professor at the University of Akron in Ohio where he teaches and conducts research at the intersection of Software Engineering and Programming Languages. Dr. Sutton helped design and implemented the Concepts Lite proposal for the C++ programming language. He is also the author of the Origin C++ Libraries, an experimental collection of generic libraries that supports ideas and research for generic programming. Dr. Sutton had previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M; University where he worked with Bjarne Stroustrup and Gabriel Dos Reis on the design and implementation of language support for generic programming (i.e., Concepts Lite). He is a member of the C++ Standards Committee and Project Editor for the Concepts Lite Technical Specification. He graduated with a PhD in computer science from Kent State University in Ohio in 2010.

The church driven 'Souls to the polls' had been decimated, the length of lines waiting to vote stretched out into the night on Tuesday election days and there was even an attempt to force people to show state identification to cast a vote.
Well this has led Jon Husted, the Ohio Secretary of State to put out an opinion editorial piece in the New York Times.
In it Jon Husted states that the PEW Charitable Trust ranks Ohio as a state moved up in ranks in transparent voting access moved up from 37 to 24.

If the walls could talk what would they say about Jon Husted?
Well Alicia Reese is not waiting. She has spearheaded a voter bill of rights campaign and tonight I finally met two of the potential petition signature gatherers at a neighborhood association meeting.

We'll see how the numbers track back around by the end of September.

In this talk, I will give an overview of the Concepts Lite language extension for C++ and present examples of its use in design and implementation of real-world generic libraries. Concepts Lite provides the ability for programmers to directly state constraints on template arguments as part of the template declaration. These constraints are predicates which determine whether or not a template argument can be used with that template. Constraints are checked by the compiler at the point of use, meaning that that effectively constrained generic libraries will not suffer from the usual problems of insane diagnostics. Libraries written using concepts will be far more readable and maintainable than the status quo. This talk will focus on generic programming, proposed language features, and their use in building real-world libraries.
Concepts Lite is a forthcoming ISO Technical Specification (TS) aimed at publication alongside C++14. Concepts Lite is implemented in a branch of GCC, which will be made available to the audience for experiments and experience.

Andrew Sutton is an assistant professor at the University of Akron in Ohio where he teaches and conducts research at the intersection of Software Engineering and Programming Languages. Dr. Sutton helped design and implemented the Concepts Lite proposal for the C++ programming language. He is also the author of the Origin C++ Libraries, an experimental collection of generic libraries that supports ideas and research for generic programming. Dr. Sutton had previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M; University where he worked with Bjarne Stroustrup and Gabriel Dos Reis on the design and implementation of language support for generic programming (i.e., Concepts Lite). He is a member of the C++ Standards Committee and Project Editor for the Concepts Lite Technical Specification. He graduated with a PhD in computer science from Kent State University in Ohio in 2010.

The performance raised funds for the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, a student rewards and scholarship program.

"Capacitated Covering, Scheduling to Minimize Energy and Min Edge Cost Flows - A Natural Convergence"
Traditional scheduling algorithms, especially those involving job scheduling on parallel machines, make the assumption that the machines are always available and try to schedule jobs to minimize specific job related metrics. Since modern data centers consume massive amounts of energy, we consider job scheduling problems that take energy consumption into account, turning machines off, especially during periods of low demand. The ensuing problems relate very closely to classical covering problems such as capacitated set cover, and we discuss several recent results in this regard. Finally we show how to view all of these problems through the common lens of min edge cost flows.
This is a survey talk on several papers, some recent, and some not so recent.

Samir Khuller received his M.S and Ph.D from Cornell University in 1989 and 1990, respectively and is currently Professor and Chair of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research interests are in graph algorithms, discrete optimization, and computational geometry and more recently in scheduling and approximation algorithms.
He received the National Science Foundation's Career Development Award, several Dept. Teaching Awards, the Dean's Teaching Excellence Award and also a CTE-Lilly Teaching Fellowship.
In 2003, he and his students were awarded the "Best newcomer paper" award for the ACM PODS Conference. He received the University of Maryland's Distinguished Scholar Teacher Award in 2007.

The ACM Committee for Computing Education in Community Colleges (CCECC) has now fulfilled the 2011 directive by the ACM Education Board that a curricular task force be constituted to produce Information Technology curricular guidance at the associate-degree level. The resulting guidance, ACM Competency Model of Core Learning Outcomes and Assessment for Associate-Degree Curriculum in Information Technology (October 2014), was produced through a multiphase process of collaboration and debate among representatives from two-year college faculty, business and industry, and certification/standards bodies, with oversight by a team of experts in student assessment. During the three years of curricular development, two public drafts were disseminated for peer review and comment. The CCECC has engaged the MPICT community with sessions at prior MPICT conferences, gaining valuable input during the development of these IT guidelines. We are pleased to present the final product in this session, with time for discussion, and the opportunity for participants to highlight their IT degree or certificate program by submitting a correlation.
The core of the IT guidelines is a set of well-vetted student learning outcomes that express core IT competencies across all IT-related associate-degree programs. The 50 core learning outcomes span the first three levels of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. Each student learning outcome is accompanied by a three-tier assessment rubric, giving further clarity and meaningful evaluation for the outcomes. The assessment rubrics facilitate integration of the learning outcomes into competency-based curricula. To make the collection of student learning outcomes more accessible to various constituent groups, the CCECC has categorized them in accordance with a variety of existing ontologies and frameworks, including the U.S. Department of Labor Competency Model, the SIGITE 2008 “Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Programs in Information Technology”, the European e-Competence Framework, the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (in alignment with ISO/IEC 15408:2005), and CSTA Standards. Several organizations have championed the guidance, including MPICT, BATEC, CSSIA, CSTA, and CyberWatch; companies such as Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft and IBM; and colleges such as the Maricopa Community College District, Portland Community College, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Champions appreciate the importance of robust associate-degree IT programs, make a commitment to the academic foundations of IT students, and promote education that meaningfully prepares graduates as future employees and practitioners.
Examples of degree and certificate programs that align with the ACM core IT learning outcomes are part of a growing repository at CAPspace.org. These correlations demonstrate the adaptability of this competency-based curriculum approach to a variety of computing courses, certificates, and degree programs. He has experience in supplier diversity and business development, connecting diverse owned companies to Fortune 500 corporations. He also founded and launched the MBE Academy in partnership with the City of Columbus. Additionally, he has public relations and marketing experience that includes creating and publishing the Connections Magazine, government affairs, strategic marketing, and branding initiatives. Calvin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Capital University in Financial Economics and has presented economic research at national conferences.
