Buckeye Nation was gloomed and the scarlet and gray didn't know what the season would hold without the hopeful heisman play caller, Miller, under center. With only a week before their first game the buckeyes and Urban Meyer named, yes, J.T. Barrett from Wichita Falls, TX the starting QB at the Ohio State University over sophomore Cardale Jones. With limited snaps in spring Barrett was not the immediate Heisman candidate. The scarlet and gray started 1-0 with and win against a savvy and proud Navy team. Barrett played well but knew that the next game against Virginia Tech would be a true test to his talents. Knowing that, he prepared. Made sure he knew the defense and got ample reps before game time. Come that Saturday the Buckeyes were not ready to play and the Hokies handed the buckeyes their first loss at home under coach Meyer. Barrett took it upon himself to improve and the Buckeyes continued to develop themselves going undefeated through the season. Through the games that were circled on the calendar such as Michigan St, at East Lansing, the Buckeyes and Barrett brought the juice and not only made themselves a playoff contender but their quarterback a Heisman hopeful. J.T. set school records for passing and for rushing by a freshman. Troy Smith, Terrell Pryor, Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett... Is he welcome along the line of OSU great QB's. Well has he beaten Michigan? Says Buckeye Nation. Saturdays pass, and the Buckeyes are undefeated coming into November 29. The game. Beat Michigan. Can J.T. do it? The game begins and the buckeyes look strong, for the most part, J.T. throws for 2 touchdowns and runs for 1. J.T. "Buckeye" Barrett is in the class of QB's who were able to take down the team up north. Suddenly, with the buckeyes up in early 4th quarter. The shoe goes silent. Number 16 lays adjacent to the "O" at the 50. J.T. broke a ligament in his right ankle. Holding his right leg he is carted off. With prayers even from the rival Wolverines, J.T.'s season was over.
