Lisa Margaret Hannigan (born 12 February 1981) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She began her musical career as a member of Damien Rice's band. Since beginning her solo career in 2007 she has released two albums: Sea Sew (2008) and Passenger (2011). Hannigan's music has received award nominations both in Ireland and the USA.
Hannigan was born in Dublin but grew up in Kilcloon, County Meath, Ireland. She attended primary school at Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa in Kilcloon and secondary school at The King's Hospital in Palmerstown and enrolled at Trinity College, Dublin to study Art History.
While still in college, Hannigan met Damien Rice at a concert in Dublin in early 2001. Rice enlisted Hannigan to sing on his 2002 album O and his later album "9", featured in the hit "9 Crimes". She toured with Rice as part of his band during that period, lending vocal support and occasionally playing electric guitar, bass guitar or drums.
In 2007, Hannigan returned to Dublin and began a solo career. Some of Hannigan's live recordings were made available through trading networks radio shows. These recordings included: "Willy" by Joni Mitchell, "Be My Husband" by Nina Simone (from the 1965 album Pastel Blues), "Mercedes Benz" by Janis Joplin and "Love Hurts" by Roy Orbison. Hannigan also performed live with her own band, called The Daisy Okell Quartet and contributed guest vocals to the recordings of Mic Christopher, The Frames and Herbie Hancock.

Recorded live at St. Luke's Church, London for the BBC Four Sessions, featuring Lisa Hannigan. Once again, this is taken from a slightly low quality vid found on the internet that was squished together with the wrong aspect ratio. I attempted to correct that as an experiment as well as removing an electric hum noise from the audio just to see how it all turned out in the end.

Lisa Hannigan performs "Knots" live for http://www.sideshowalley.tv ABOUT THIS EPISODE A few years ago we stumbled upon a video of a singer and her band playing a beautiful little song all tucked closely together into a tiny pub booth. Glasses clinking and children running around in the background, the intimate and raw nature of the situation was something typically Irish. Relaxed and honest, it drew you into the environment in a way that felt like you too were part of the family, there enjoying your lazy ale. The video left a lasting impression and along with another Irish masterpiece "Once", was an early influence for Sideshow Alley. The adorable performer in this clip was Lisa Hannigan. A soulful and husky yet delicate songstress who now has two delightful records released. While her...

What you at my gentle spoken friend
I lack a frame to put you in
When you're an ocean and a rock away
I feel you in the pocket of my overcoat
My fingers wrap around your words
And take the shape of games we play
I feed your words through my buttonholes
I bring them to my fingerless gloves
Green and prone to fraying
Thoughts of you warm my bones
I'm on the way, I'm on the phone
Let's get lost, me and you
An ocean and a rock is nothing to me
I am far away from where you lay
Awake the day while you fall to sleep
An ocean and a rock away
I keep you in the pockets of my dresses
And the bristles of my brushes
Spin you into my curls today
I spoon you into my coffee cup
Spin you through a delicate wash
I wear you all day
I wear you all day
Thoughts of you warm my bones
I'm on the way, I'm on the phone
Let's get lost, me and you
And ocean and rock is nothing to me
Thoughts of you warm my bones
I'm on the way, I'm nearly home
Let's get lost, me and you
