"Victim of Love" is a song by the American new wave band The Cars, appearing on their fourth studio album, Shake It Up. It was written by Ric Ocasek.
"Victim of Love" was first released on Shake It Up in November 1981. However, in June of the next year, it was released as the third American single from Shake It Up (the first two being "Shake It Up" and "Since You're Gone"). Although the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, it hit #39 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The single was not released in Britain; another track from Shake It Up, "Think It Over", was released as a single instead.
AllMusic critic Greg Prato described the track as "pop-oriented" and listed it as one of "many lesser-known album tracks [that] prove[d] to be highlights [on Shake It Up]."
The B-side of "Victim of Love" is the Greg Hawkes-Ric Ocasek written track, "This Could Be Love". The song appeared on the second side of the Shake It Up album.
Victim of Love is a 1991 psychological thriller film starring Pierce Brosnan, JoBeth Williams and Virginia Madsen. The film was originally produced for CBS Network but due to its popularity, steamy scenes were expanded and the film was given a PG-13 rating and re-released on DVD as Raw Heat by Lion's Gate/Artisan Home Video in September 2003. The movie was shot on location in Malibu, California.
Therapist Tess Parker (JoBeth Williams) meets Paul Tomlinson (Pierce Brosnan), an English professor she's wacky over, and he's also a guy that is too good to be true.
Her patient Carla (Virginia Madsen), comes to Tess to tell her about her former lover who wanted to marry her but needed some time after his wife's death, even though they started going out when he was still married. But after a year he left and never came back, only to tell her that he was with someone else. Tess tries to comfort Carla after she thought Carla was going to jump off the edge of a building. The descriptions Carla gives Tess of her former lover seem somewhat familiar, but not until the time Carla shows Tess book written by her former lover, that Tess realizes Carla is talking about Paul.
Love Man is the fourth posthumous album by American soul recording artist Otis Redding. It was released in June 1969 and featured songs Redding had recorded in 1967. The album was produced by Steve Cropper, and featured Booker T. and the M.G.'s.
The album was a part of a series of posthumous releases by Atco Records after Redding's mainstream reputation skyrocketed in the wake of his 1967 death.Love Man charted at number 46 on the Billboard 200 and number 8 on the R&B Albums.
"Direct Me" has pop and gospel elements and a heavy tambourine-laden arrangement. On "I'm a Changed Man", Redding employed scat singing. The album's title track has a mid-tempo funk groove and lyrical references to the hippie culture that had begun to appreciate Redding at the time. The song charted at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on the R&B Singles. "A Lover's Question" peaked at number 48 and number 20, respectively, and "Free Me" reached number 30 on the R&B Singles chart.

I've lived a life of superstitious wishes
Just trying to get by and drifting like the fishes in the
water
I've looked for soft hair and beautiful faces by the
daffodil fields
Oh yes sir, I tried to steal your daughter
Those gentle cries in the morning light, that softest
skin, that sweet delight
I've drank the sweetest water you can drink
But I didn't really think I was a love man
Until I met you
Some people lie and cheat and steal and drink wine every
night by the case
And I guess I'm that way too, I'm not perfect
And I guess you've done bad things too, and that you're
not always beautiful
Well I guess I'm a fool, cause I think you're perfect
Sitting by the fire one night she turned her head to me
and said
Baby would you ever burn me?
I said no I'll never burn you - I'm burning
I didn't know I was a love man
