Pyrrho (/ˈpɪroʊ/; Greek: Πύρρων Pyrrōn, c. 360 BC – c. 270 BC), a Greek philosopher of Classical Antiquity, was a student of Eastern philosophy and is credited as being the first Greek skeptic philosopher and the inspiration for the school known as Pyrrhonism, founded by Aenesidemus in the 1st century BC. He was exposed to Eastern (Indian) philosophy and introduced it to Greece and is popularly known for his skeptic philosophy modeled on the pioneering Indian skeptical philosophical schools and traditions.
Pyrrho was from Elis, on the Ionian Sea. Diogenes Laertius, quoting from Apollodorus of Athens, says that Pyrrho was at first a painter, and that pictures by him were exhibited in the gymnasium at Elis. Later he was diverted to philosophy by the works of Democritus, and according to Diogenes Laertius became acquainted with the Megarian dialectic through Bryson, pupil of Stilpo.
Pyrrho, along with Anaxarchus, travelled with Alexander the Great on his exploration of the East, and studied under the Gymnosophists in India and the Magi in Persia. This exposure to Eastern philosophy seems to have inspired him to adopt a life of solitude; returning to Elis, he lived in poor circumstances, but was highly honored by the Elians and also by the Athenians, who conferred upon him the rights of citizenship.
Cecil Percival Taylor (born March 15, 1929) is an American pianist and poet. Classically trained, Taylor is generally acknowledged as one of the pioneers of free jazz. His music is characterized by an extremely energetic, physical approach, producing complex improvised sounds, frequently involving tone clusters and intricate polyrhythms. His piano technique has been likened to percussion, for example described as "eighty-eight tuned drums" (referring to the number of keys on a standard piano). He has also been described as "like Art Tatum with contemporary-classical leanings".
Taylor was born in New York City. He began playing piano at age six and studied at the New York College of Music and New England Conservatory. After first steps in R&B and swing-styled small groups in the early 1950s, he formed his own band with soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy in 1956.
Taylor's first recording, Jazz Advance, featured Lacy and was released in 1956. It is described by Cook and Morton in the Penguin Guide to Jazz: "While there are still many nods to conventional post-bop form in this set, it already points to the freedoms which the pianist would later immerse himself in." Taylor's Quartet featuring Lacy also appeared at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival. He collaborated with saxophonist John Coltrane in 1958 (Stereo Drive, currently available as Coltrane Time).
Compact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format. The format was originally developed to store and play only sound recordings but was later adapted for storage of data (CD-ROM). Several other formats were further derived from these, including write-once audio and data storage (CD-R), rewritable media (CD-RW), Video Compact Disc (VCD), Super Video Compact Disc (SVCD), Photo CD, PictureCD, CD-i, and Enhanced Music CD. Audio CDs and audio CD players have been commercially available since October 1982.
Standard CDs have a diameter of 120 millimetres (4.7 in) and can hold up to about 80 minutes of uncompressed audio or about 700 MiB of data. The Mini CD has various diameters ranging from 60 to 80 millimetres (2.4 to 3.1 in); they are sometimes used for CD singles, storing up to 24 minutes of audio, or delivering device drivers.
At the time of the technology's introduction in 1982, a CD had greater storage capacity than a personal computer hard drive. By 2010 hard drives commonly had capacities exceeding those of CDs by a factor of several thousand.
Péter Scherer (born 16 November 1961 in Ajka) is a Hungarian stage and film actor.
Scherer was born in Ajka, Hungary. After finishing his secondary school in Szombathely, he graduated from Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 1987. First he became a member of the Arvisura Theatre Company (between 1984 and 1994). From 1995 he was freelance actor. Later he joined the Bárka Theatre in 1997.
Since 2002 he has been a member of the Krétakör Theater. His famous movie role was in Miklós Jancsó’s The Lord's Lantern in Budapest (1999) as Pepe. He also appeared in movies like Kontroll (2003), One day in Europe (2005), Doll No. 639 (2005), Carlos (2010).

Wayne Shorter (born August 25, 1933) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Many of Shorter's compositions have become jazz standards, and his output has earned worldwide recognition, critical praise and various commendations, including 10 Grammy Awards. He has also received acclaim for his mastery of the soprano saxophone (after switching his focus from the tenor in the late 1960s), beginning an extended reign in 1970 as Down Beat's annual poll-winner on that instrument, winning the critics' poll for 10 consecutive years and the readers' for 18. The New York Times has described Shorter as "probably jazz's greatest living small-group composer and a contender for greatest living improviser."
Shorter first came to wide prominence in the late 1950s as a member of, and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he went on to join Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and from there he co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. He has recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader.

Pyrrho the Skeptic's philosophy in a minute, by Mark Vernon, author of the book, Plato's Podcasts: The Ancients' Guide to Modern Living (Oneworld)
*credit to The History of philosophy without any gaps by Professor Peter Adamson. Pyrrho was a Greek philosopher from Elis, and founder of the Greek school of skepticism. In his youth he practiced the art of painting, but passed over this for philosophy. He studied the writings of Democritus, became a disciple of Bryson, the son of Stilpo, and later a disciple of Anaxarchus. He took part in the Indian expedition of Alexander the Great, and met with philosophers of the Indus region. Back in Greece he was frustrated with the assertions of the Dogmatists (those who claimed to possess knowledge), and founded a new school in which he taught fallibilism, namely that every object of human knowledge involves uncertainty. Thus, he argued, it is impossible ever to arrive at the knowledge of truth (...

My thought on most of the arguments against anarchy in general. Specifically for the argument from infrastructure, my experience is that governments generally impede infrastructure (protectionism and border control nonsense) more than it is facilitated.

Offer to be Stickam interviewed by Pyrrho anytime from mid June onwards, well until September at least. On any subjects he cares to present. I shall require time to base my opinions on all relevant questions at issue, this is my only condition, and i will concede that this will be placed at a maximum of 10mins continuous talk time which will be reset for every interjection felt necessary. I do not anticipate time factors to come into play and would endeavour to proceed under a good will agreement. I think it obvious that when i say i will be take questions on all matters, this excludes private life beyond youtube. Thus expected topics would be politics, economics, Q.M, math, conflict issues or anything else we have raised between us. To within reason expect i shall be able to accommodate a...

This talk introduces Neale's research on the parallels and possible historical connections between the two projects.

This video presents the rise of Hellenistic philosophy and of skepticism in the wake of Alexander the Great's conquests. Key arguments such as the 10 Modes and Infinite Regress are presented in detail. Both Pyrrho's form of skepticism and the Academic school are covered and contrasted. Lastly, the anti-skeptical replies of St. Augustine are presented in overview. This last element provides a crucial link to modern philosophies presented in my upcoming lecture.
