The Castle (video game)

The Castle is an MSX game released by ASCII Corporation in 1986. The game is set within a castle containing 100 rooms, most of which contain one or more puzzles. The object of the game is to navigate through the Castle to rescue the Princess. The player can push certain objects throughout the game to accomplish progress. In some rooms, the prince can only advance to the next room by aligning cement blocks, Honey Jars, Candle Cakes, and Elevator Controlling Block. Additionally, the player's progress is blocked by many doors requiring a key of the same color to unlock, and a key is removed from the player's inventory upon use. The prince must be standing on a platform next to the door to be able to unlock it, and cannot simply jump or fall and press against the door. The player can navigate the castle with the help of a map that can be obtained early in the game. The map will provide the player with a matrix of 10x10 rooms and will highlight the room in which the princess is located and the rooms that he had visited. The player must also avoid touching enemies like Knights, Bishops, Wizards, Fire Spirits, Attack Cats and Phantom Flowers.

Castle (book)

Castle is a Caldecott Honor award-winning book by David Macaulay published in 1978. The book offers a detailed illustrated description of Aberwyvern castle, a fictional castle built between 1283 and 1288. Like many of Macaulay's other works, it consists of a written description of the construction process accompanied by pen-and-ink drawings. A great deal of detail is put into the descriptions, and he describes the workers and tools that would have been needed for the construction of a medieval castle.

The castle is fictional but the historical context is real. Macaulay places its construction in North West Wales between 1283 and 1288, when Edward I of England was in fact building a string of castles to help his conquest of that land. Much of the layout and architecture of Aberwyvern castle is extrapolated from these Welsh castles, which Macaulay visited as a boy, and in particular Harlech Castle, which it closely resembles in design, siting and general appearance.

The castle is constructed on a rocky mount jutting out into the River Wyvern. It is square in plan and has two concentric lines of fortification. The first line of defence is an outer curtain wall of 300 feet on the side, encircling the entire castle and forming the outer ward. The outer curtain wall of the castle also links with the defensive wall of the town. The tops of the wall are furnished battlements with merlons to protect defenders arrayed along the parapet walk. There are two gatehouses, one, defended by a drawbridge leading to the town, the other to a fortified dock (to allow the garrison to be supplied by ship in the event of a siege).

Overkill (EP)

Overkill is the first EP recorded by thrash metal band Overkill released in 1984 on Azra/Metal Storm records. It is also considered by the band as their "first album", making their debut Feel the Fire their second record and so forth. The EP is included on the !!!Fuck You!!! And Then Some compilation.

All of the songs from this EP (except for "The Answer") would be re-recorded for the band's future albums; "Rotten to the Core" and "Overkill" were re-recorded for Feel the Fire, while "Fatal If Swallowed" was re-recorded for Taking Over.

Overkill (2011 video game)

Overkill is a Free-to-play video game developed by Craneballs Studio. The game is set in the future when the civilized society collapsed and player has to kill everybody he meets.

Gameplay

The game is classical Rail shooter where the player has to kill as many enemies as he can and survive as many waves as he can. Enemies are static and their fire cannot be dodged and always it is the player who has to kill them quickly. There are 21 waves in every level. Every wave is stronger than the previous. Player can come across multiple types of enemies such as soldiers or flying droids. Player can get boosts to his firing rate, accuracy, armor and more. The health can be generated after some time. Player gets money for every killed enemy. Player can buy new weapons ammo, or other equipment.

The game offers 18 multiple weapons and some upgrades with 100 possible combinations. There are also 5 levels to unlock.

Reception

The game was well received by critics. It was praised for its gameplay and a variety of weapons and upgrades. On the other hand, it was criticised for its graphics

Overkill (band)

Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many line-up changes, with singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and bassist D.D. Verni remaining from the original lineup. Along with Anthrax, whose one-time lead guitarist Dan Spitz was also an early member of Overkill, the band is one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands, and they are often called "the Motörhead of thrash metal". The band has a notable mascot named "Chaly", a skeletal bat with a skull-like face, horns, bony wings and green eyes. Chaly has appeared on most of their album covers.

To date, Overkill has released seventeen studio albums, one album of cover songs, three EPs and three live albums. They were one of the early thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (Atlantic Records in 1986), but would not achieve commercial success until the popularization of the genre in the late 1980s, with their contemporaries Anthrax, Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Testament. The band's most successful records are Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), I Hear Black (1993), The Electric Age (2012), and White Devil Armory (2014), which debuted at No. 142, No. 155, No. 122, No. 77, and No. 31 respectively on the Billboard 200 chart. As of 2006, Overkill has sold over 625,000 albums in the U.S. since the beginning of the SoundScan era and over 16 million records worldwide as of 2012.
