White
White is an achromatic color, literally a "color without hue", that is a mixture of the frequencies of all the colors of the visible spectrum. It is one of the most common colors in nature, the color of sunlight, snow, milk, chalk, limestone and other common minerals. In many cultures white represents or signifies purity, innocence, and light, and is the symbolic opposite of black, or darkness. According to surveys in Europe and the United States, white is the color most often associated with perfection, the good, honesty, cleanliness, the beginning, the new, neutrality, and exactitude.
In ancient Egypt and ancient Rome, priestesses wore white as a symbol of purity, and Romans wore a white toga as a symbol of citizenship. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance a white unicorn symbolized chastity, and a white lamb sacrifice and purity; the widows of kings dressed in white rather than black as the color of mourning. It sometimes symbolizes royalty; it was the color of the French kings (black being the color of the queens) and of the monarchist movement after the French Revolution as well as of the movement called the White Russians (not to be confounded with Belarus, literally "White Russia") who fought the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War (1917-1922). Greek and Roman temples were faced with white marble, and beginning in the 18th century, with the advent of neoclassical architecture, white became the most common color of new churches, capitols and other government buildings, especially in the United States of America. It was also widely used in 20th century modern architecture as a symbol of modernity, simplicity and strength.

Steven Stayner
Steven Gregory Stayner (April 18, 1965 – September 17, 1989) was an American kidnap victim. Stayner was abducted from the Central California city and county of Merced, California at the age of seven and held until he was 14, when he escaped and rescued another victim, Timothy White, in 1980. Stayner died in 1989 in a motorcycle accident while driving home from work.
Birth and family
Stayner was the third of five children born to Delbert and Kay Stayner in Merced, California. He had three sisters and an older brother, Cary. In 2002, Cary was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1999 murder of four women.
Kidnapping
On the afternoon of December 4, 1972, Stayner was approached on his way home from school by a man named Ervin Edward Murphy, an acquaintance of Kenneth Parnell. Murphy, described by those who knew him as a trusting, naïve, and simple-minded man, had been enlisted by convicted child rapist Parnell (who had passed himself off as an aspiring minister to Murphy) into helping him abduct a young boy so that Parnell could "raise him in a religious-type deal," as Murphy later stated.

7 year old Steven Stayner was abducted on his way home from school in Merced, California on December 4, 1972. He was held captive and told his parents gave him up for adoption. After 7 years of living under the name Dennis Parnell, his abductor kidnapped 5 year old Timmy White February 14, 1980. Steven and Timmy escaped. This is a tribute to their brave fight. Always remember Steven Stayner and Timothy White.

This is a digitized recording from cassette of a radio broadcast in the early 90s. Timothy White was a wonderful interviewer of musicians and a good friend and supporter to many of them, like John Mellencamp. Timothy White left us in 2002 much too young and he is missed a great many of us in and out of the music industry. Hats off to the late Timothy White! Much love and respect! "Timothy White's Rock Stars" featuring Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Will Jennings. This is the full unedited audio originating from a cassette recorded from FM radio in 1990. It's a very informal and "loose" setting, as this is being recorded live at Emerald Sound Studios in Nashville Tennessee, USA. I particularly love the versions of "I Will Be Here" and "When You See A Chance" and "In The Presence of the Lord" Steve performs in a very passionate way... even if he forgets a lyric or two here and there. I've happily enjoyed this recording for over 20 years now. I'm happy to be able to share it so others may enjoy it too.

This is a digitized recording from cassette of a radio broadcast in the early 90s. Timothy White was a wonderful interviewer of musicians and a good friend and supporter to many of them, like John Mellencamp. Timothy White left us in 2002 much too young and he is missed a great many of us in and out of the music industry. Hats off to the late Timothy White! Much love and respect! I've enjoyed this recording many times myself over the last 20 years or so. When I turned to it again recently I thought it was well worth digitizing and sharing with others here. It took some editing to remove the commercials. The sound quality isn't great because it's from an old cassette tape. Still, I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I do.

In his lecture Dr. White drew upon his experience as a tour guide and engaged public historian since the year 2000. For this work, he has often needed to teach difficult subjects such as racial strife, neighborhood displacement, gentrification, and monuments to topics such as the Holocaust and the Katyn massacre. Each time such a subject comes up on a tour or in a lecture, it elicits vastly different reactions and feelings from students or tour guests. He presented several case studies of difficult public history in the U.S.A., including the NYC Holocaust Museum, the Jersey City Katyn monument, a Jersey City statue of African-American baseball star Jackie Robinson, and the flying of Confederate flags.
