Jimmy Cheek

Jimmy G. Cheek is the current chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as of February 1, 2009. His experience includes 34 years at the University of Florida, where he was a member of the faculty and an administrator, last serving as senior vice president of agricultural and natural resources. Cheek earned his bachelor's degree and his doctorate from Texas A&M University, and received his master's degree from Lamar University. Cheek is a native of Texas, and he is married to his wife Ileen Cheek and has two children and two grandchildren.

During his tenure at Florida, he received the President's Medallion and Student Body Resolution 2009-104 for his service to the university and its students. He also received the Morton Wolfson Faculty Award for outstanding contributions to the quality of student life. In 1998 he was honored with the Fellow of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture award, a Fellow of the American Association for Agricultural Education in 2005, and was named to the Academy of Teaching Excellence in 2008. His primary focus for his research has mainly consisted of the influence of experiential learning on student achievement and educational accountability. He has authored more than 80 journal articles and reports and is the senior author of his own book.

Cheek

Cheeks (Latin: buccae) constitute the area of the face below the eyes and between the nose and the left or right ear. "Buccal" means relating to the cheek. In humans, the region is innervated by the buccal nerve. The area between the inside of the cheek and the teeth and gums is called the vestibule or buccal pouch or buccal cavity and forms part of the mouth. In other animals the cheeks may also be referred to as jowls.

Structure

Cheeks are fleshy in humans, the skin being suspended by the chin and the jaws, and forming the lateral wall of the human mouth, visibly touching the cheekbone below the eye. The inside of the cheek is lined with a mucous membrane (buccal mucosa, part of the oral mucosa).

During mastication (chewing), the cheeks and tongue between them serve to keep the food between the teeth.

Other animals

The cheeks are covered externally by hairy skin, and internally by stratified squamous epithelium. This is mostly smooth, but may have aborally directed papillae (e.g.: ruminants). The mucosa is supplied with secretions from the Buccal glands, which are arranged in superior and inferior groups. In carnivores, the superior buccal gland is large and discrete: the Zygomatic gland. During mastication (chewing), the cheeks and tongue between them serve to keep the food between the teeth.

Dave Hart

David R. Hart (c. 1925 – March 14, 2009) was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1966 to 1968, compiling a record of 3–27. Hart was the athletic director at the University of Louisville from 1973 to 1978. He served in the same capacity at the University of Missouri from 1978 to 1986, before he was appointed as the commissioner of the Southern Conference.

Hart was a native of Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He coached high school football in Pennsylvania for 11 years before moving to the college ranks in 1962, when he became an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. After two seasons at Kentucky, Hart moved to the United States Naval Academy, where he coached the defensive backfield in 1964 and 1965. Hart died on March 14, 2009 at the age of 83.

His son, Dave Hart, Jr. is the Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at the University of Tennessee. Before, he was the executive director of athletics at his alma mater, assisting Alabama athletic director Mal Moore. Previously he spent 12 years as Florida State's athletic director and at East Carolina University in the same role.

Chancellor (Latin: cancellarius) is a title of various official positions in the governments of many nations.
