Futures studies (also called futurology) is the study of postulating possible, probable, and preferable futures and the worldviews and myths that underlie them. There is a debate as to whether this discipline is an art or science. In general, it can be considered as a branch of the social sciences and parallel to the field of history. History studies the past, futures studies considers the future. Futures studies (colloquially called "futures" by many of the field's practitioners) seeks to understand what is likely to continue and what could plausibly change. Part of the discipline thus seeks a systematic and pattern-based understanding of past and present, and to determine the likelihood of future events and trends. Unlike the physical sciences where a narrower, more specified system is studied, futures studies concerns a much bigger and more complex world system. The methodology and knowledge are much less proven as compared to natural science or even social science like sociology, economics, and political science.

Hence, it is an opportune time to ask what has been achieved and what we still need to know more ab...

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B01FKF9H8K/book The conversations generated by the chapters in Music's Immanent Future grapple with some of music's paradoxes: that music of the Western art canon is viewed as timeless and universal while other kinds of music are seen as transitory and ephemeral; that in order to make sense of music we need descriptive language; that to open up the new in music we need to revisit the old; that to arrive at a figuration of music itself we need to posit its starting point in noise; that in order to justify our creative compositional works as research, we need to find critical languages and theoretical frameworks with which to discuss them; or that despite being an auditory system, we are compelled to resort to the visual metaphor as a...

The Darwin's Rhea - locally known as Ñandu - are large, flightless birds of the Patagonian steppe. Endemic to Patagonia, these birds once ranged wide. Now their numbers are declining and several populations are no longer there. Round River Conservation Studies students are looking for them on a ranch that straddles the border between Chile and Argentina, trying to learn how to help the Ñandu cross the fences that obstruct its migration. "Orwell is for me way too simplistic, even optimistic. Orwell still believes that free love, authentic human relation, and so on and so on, serves against totalitarian power. Here Orwell I think gets it deeply wrong. You can have a society which is sexually permissive, consumerist, blah blah blah, totally different from what Orwell depicts and it's still totalitarian." Famous Slovenian Philosopher Slavoj Zizek says he doesn’t care about surveillance. He simply believes that it’s not efficient and possible if government controlled secret police reads and analyze all our data. If you take it seriously He says that “it’s stupid computer program if experts are analyzing, 90% of people should be employed to analyze it”. Zizek also says that even if you do that “People are stupid they don’t thr...
