After falling in love with "How to Train Your Dragon" and the follow up series by Dreamworks, I wrote a spec script to apply for the Nick Writers Fellowship in 2013. The process was an awesome experience as I received help and advice from instructors at my school.
The gist of the story is that due to a debt, Hiccup loses Toothless to a brutal Viking; to get him back, Hiccup must fight for him despite his scrawny size.
** Note: This story happened during the series Dragons: Riders of Berk.
Even through my script wasn't picked that year, I was still really proud of my story and I wanted to see it brought to life.
This is a selected scene brought to life by Sonja Landskjaer. We had an awesome collaboration! She illustrated the storyboards, and I edited them into a sequence to imitate an animatic and added music, text, and timing the boards for appropriate affect.
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. This is purely done for the love the series and as an educational embarkment for two creative storytellers to add to our portfolio. ^_^ Be sure to check out Sonja's work in the link below!

A spec script, also known as a speculative screenplay, is a non-commissioned unsolicited screenplay. It is usually written by a screenwriter who hopes to have the script optioned and eventually purchased by a producer, production company, or studio.
Spec scripts have not always held as much cachet in the business as they do now. Ernest Lehman describes how his original script for North by Northwest was unusual at that point in his career:
If the writer of a spec script has an agent, the agent will identify a number of prospective buyers who may range from small independent producers to executives working in the major studios, and attempt to build up 'heat' under the script. The script is sent out simultaneously to all the prospective buyers in the hope of attracting a bidding war.
If the script sells, the writer may receive a payment of anything from a few tens of thousands of dollars to several million. If not, the script is sometimes dead in the water because it is now in the databases of the studios and development executives, and has been marked as having been 'passed' on.

Unbreakable 2 (Spec Script - Opening Scene)
This past summer I was reading Entertainment Weekly about "Unbreakable", by M Night Shyamalan. It's been 15 years since the film was released, and it was ahead of it's time as far as superhero movies go. I remember seeing it in the theatre, and was completely amazed. It still packs a punch today. Anyway, I decided to create my own idea (a spec script) of what may have happened since those closing credits, and decided to focus on the relationship between David's son and Mr. Glass. Mr. Glass (played brilliantly by the always amazing Samuel L. Jackson) would reach out to the son, having failed to get David (Bruce Willis in a great performance) to play his game. This is my vision of the opening scene. Unbreakable was supposed to be a trilogy... it still can be. (Side note: I was actually in it as a featured extra at a restaurant, but my scene was cut.) The entire short film was created by Michael Toolan Roche, based on characters created by M. Night Shyamalan, just to get the idea out to other people who enjoyed Unbreakable. -

Don and Peggy have explosion encounter while Don learns that Anna has died. As his bond with Anna has changed, his bond with Peggy is stronger.

After falling in love with "How to Train Your Dragon" and the follow up series by Dreamworks, I wrote a spec script to apply for the Nick Writers Fellowship in 2013. The process was an awesome experience as I received help and advice from instructors at my school.
The gist of the story is that due to a debt, Hiccup loses Toothless to a brutal Viking; to get him back, Hiccup must fight for him despite his scrawny size.
** Note: This story happened during the series Dragons: Riders of Berk.
Even through my script wasn't picked that year, I was still really proud of my story and I wanted to see it brought to life.
This is a selected scene brought to life by Sonja Landskjaer. We had an awesome collaboration! She illustrated the storyboards, and I edited them into a sequence to imitate an animatic and added music, text, and timing the boards for appropriate affect.

This past summer I was reading Entertainment Weekly about "Unbreakable", by M Night Shyamalan. It's been 15 years since the film was released, and it was ahead of it's time as far as superhero movies go. I remember seeing it in the theatre, and was completely amazed. It still packs a punch today.
Anyway, I decided to create my own idea (a spec script) of what may have happened since those closing credits, and decided to focus on the relationship between David's son and Mr. Glass. Mr. Glass (played brilliantly by the always amazing Samuel L. Jackson) would reach out to the son, having failed to get David (Bruce Willis in a great performance) to play his game. This is my vision of the opening scene.
Unbreakable was supposed to be a trilogy... it still can be.
(Side note: I was actually in it as a featured extra at a restaurant, but my scene was cut.)
The entire short film was created by Michael Toolan Roche, based on
characters created by M. Night Shyamalan, just to get the idea out to other people who enjoyed Unbreakable.

In episode three, Don travels to California to visit Anna Draper, the wife of the real Don Draper. He learns she has cancer, but her sister, Patty, and her daughter, Stephanie, make Don promise to go along with their not informing on her illnes.. He complies and says a tearful good-bye.
In episode seven, Peggy and Stan still do not have a pitch for Don for Samsonite luggage. So Peggy stays late with Don on her birthday. Don and Peggy have explosion encounter while Don learns that Anna has died. As his bond with Anna has changed, his bond with Peggy is stronger.
