Isiah Thomas Excited About Malik Rose and Mo Taylor Trades
Craig Sager interviews the
Knicks GM
Isiah Thomas right after the
Malik Rose and
Mo Taylor trades.
Funny to hear how
Isiah thinks this is a good idea and is excited about acquiring two fat asses with stupendous contracts.
Thomas as well tries to put blame
Scott Layden for some of the contracts he had inherited from thim, while
Steve Kerr points out that
Zeke has kept on trading for players with long term contracts.
The transactions Isiah made in this situation are simply hilarious.
Let's start off in 2004. He signs alcoholic
Vin Baker, who the
Celtics had released, so they just have to pay
3.5 mil. of his 9 million contract for a washed up veteran, who doesn't get minutes. That summer he also trades for a 26 million, 4 year contract (year later they waive him and keep on paying him that money for 3 seasons
... at least
Jerome seemed to care enough to grab a loose ball hence the nickname) of another forward Jerome "
Junkyard Dog"
Williams (while trading away
Dikembe Mutombo. I guess we can't blame him on not believing that the 38 year old had some basketball left in him, yet of course he had more hustle left in him than all of those guys he acquired combined.) So they're set for the season with two decent centers in
Nazr Mohammed and
Kurt Thomas, yet they have the laziest three forwards (Vin Baker,
Mike Sweetney and
Tim Thomas) in the league only for 18 million dollars, what a bargain. I don't even want to mention the fact that they have this old guy who claims to be
Penny Hardaway and receives 14.6 millions.
So the trades in this video: just before the deadline they give
Spurs a great piece for their championship run in Nazr Mohammed (while the Knicks lose their best rebounder) and help them get rid of Malik Rose's 33 million contract (while the Knicks get another fat ass forward, who can't rebound for shit and seems to be totally lacking any kind of skills outside the Spurs).
Hey, at least they got a 1st round draft pick to turn into
David Lee, so
Larry Brown is able to sit down at least some talented rookie for no apparent reason other than his dislike for youngsters
.
In the other trade they get rid of worthless Vin Baker.
Great! Who did they get in his place?
Maurice Taylor's 16 millions for the next two years. He used to be an exciting high-flyer.
Now? You guessed! He is a fat forward, who can't rebound for shit.
The summer of
2005. Two pretty good draft first round selections.
Channing Frye (not really a rebounder, has a decent rookie year though), David Lee (great rebounder, best one on the team, yet doesn't get playing time due to the fact that Larry Brown is
the coach). Time for trades, right Zeke? He trades away their only center Kurt Thomas for a clown in
Nate Robinson, at least he doesn't have a large salary because he is a rookie. But that's what
Quentin Richardson is for. 40 million dollars in 5 years for an average shooter.
With Kurt Thomas in
Phoenix the Knicks don't have any centers. What now!? Hey, didn't we just see
Jerome James have a nice playoffs run in
Seattle? Probably has nothing to do with the fact that he was in his contract year. Heck let's even forget the fact that he was mediocre during the regular season and might have suckered us into a 30 million, 5 year deal by showing up for 12 playoffs games. I guess I don't even have to mention the fact that he's overweight and couldn't rebound the ball if it fell in his lap covered in spaghetti (search for a Jerome James video on youtube where he's talking about food). During the 07-08 and 08-09 season Jerome earned 0.75 million per one minute on the floor.
So with one obese center acquired. Let's look for the all-time fattest front line award.
Trade away Mike Sweetney (fuck, the award is in danger now) and Tim Thomas (great, the only one of those lazy forwards who could actually score) with four draft picks (two of them turned out to be LaMarcus Aldrige and
Joakim Noah... fun fact - they can rebound the fucking ball). What do the Knicks get? The worst rebounding center out there, who just was reported to have heart problems in
Eddy Curry (55 million dollars for the next 6 years) and let's be the team who gets the opportunity to pay the 37 year old
Antonio Davis 13.925 million in his last season.
That's the damage Isiah Thomas managed to do in a year and that's why right now there's a lockout. Because of huge salaries for guys who could care less about diving for a loose ball.
And I didn't even get started on the guards the Knicks had.
