Perched on a hilltop 1,600 feet above the crashing waves of the Pacific, Hearst's magnificent Castle is located halfway between LA and San Francisco near the town of Cambria.
June 2008 marked 50 years since the castle opened to the public. Today, it draws more than 1 million visitors a year.
Start your Hearst Castle Tour at the Visitors Center, located right off Highway 1. The Experience Tour is one of five offered at the castle, and is recommended for first time visitors. Tickets sell out quickly, so advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Tours average about 2 hours.
Hopping aboard the tour bus, we begin our steep and winding ascent to the castle, listing to old time music while passing roaming herds of cattle. It's easy to imagine how invited guests felt arriving at the ranch for a weeklong stay of lavish parties, good food and fine living.
William Hearst built three separate guest houses for his famous visitors, who included Hollywood glitterati, political leaders and other notables like Howard Hughes.
Passing through the main gate, we looked down in awe at the sparkling Pacific ocean, Santa Lucia mountains and rolling green hills that inspired Hearst to build here in 1919.
The Neptune Pool, with its impressive Greco-Roman colonaddes, Vermont marble statues, remnants from Roman temples and 17th century bas reliefs, is a highlight on each tour. The white marble pool is 10 feet at its deepest point and 104 feet long, featuring a unique oil-burning heating system.
Hearst's visitors had their choice of the three guesthouses, and Casa del Sol is one of the most beautiful. This 8-bedroom, 2,600 square foot Moorish retreat, with sweeping views of the Pacific, opens up to Central Plaza and Casa Grande, Hearst's 60,000 square foot Medietrranean Revival style residence.
Casa Grande has 38 bedrooms and 41 bathrooms. Total square footage of the estate exceeds 90,000 square feet.
Casa Grande itself is a palatial sight. In fact, architectural historian Lord John Norwich called it a "palace in every sense of the word."
The Central Plaza outside Casa Grande is serene and beautiful, especially as the ocean breeze blows by. The plaza and outer terraces are a great spot to relax and admire the beautiful gardens, fountains, ponds and priceless sculptures.
In fact, the castle has more than 22,000 museum quality artifacts, shipped from around the world, including ornately carved ancient European ceilings and exquisite tapestries.
There are 14 sitting rooms in Casa Grande, but the Assembly Room was where Hearst's guests gathered around 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, play cards, or enjoy a game of Monopoly before dinner. The estate has 41 fireplaces!
At 8 p.m., guests moved in to the Refectory, the only dining room in the castle. Here, Hearst enjoyed lavish meals with his mistress Marion Davies and about 15 famous visitors, always making sure there was plenty of ketchup, pickles and mustard to go around. Heart's favorite dish was rare pressed duck
The kitchen, built in 1927, featured electric appliances and the latest in modern conveniences for its time. It looks much like it did during its heyday, including spoons for enjoying bone marrow, a delicacy at the time.
Hearst employed 15 chefs, waiters, butlers and maids.
After enjoying a fine meal, guests retreated to the 50-seat Movie Theater or took a dip in the Indoor Roman pool, styled after the Italian Baths of Caracalla and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

Wow Wow Wow! This wedding was so fabulous! Linda and Vu put so much time and thought into creating their perfect dream wedding. Michelle Groom from Mele Amore did an amazing job of pulling everything together to make this event to die for. There are very few weddings that happen at Hearst Castle and when Linda and Vu decided this is where they wanted to have their wedding they would not take no for an answer. They jumped through lots of hoops and finally Hearst said yes and the wedding was on!
There are so many amazing aspects about this wedding, from the beautiful Vera Wang dress and Louboutin shoes to the very touching personal vows they wrote for each other. Nothing was overlooked and this meant for an unforgettable event for the guests as well as the best day in Linda and Vu's life!

William Randolph Hearst (/hɜrst/;[1] April 29, 1863 – August 14, 1951) was an American newspaper publisher who built the nation's largest newspaper chain and whose methods profoundly influenced American journalism.[2] Hearst entered the publishing business in 1887 after taking control of The San Francisco Examiner from his father. Moving to New York City, he acquired The New York Journal and engaged in a bitter circulation war with Joseph Pulitzer's New York World that led to the creation of yellow journalism—sensationalized stories of dubious veracity. Acquiring more newspapers, Hearst created a chain that numbered nearly 30 papers in major American cities at its peak. He later expanded to magazines, creating the largest newspaper and magazine business in the world.
He was twice elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives, and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of New York City in 1905 and 1909, for Governor of New York in 1906, and for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1910. Nonetheless, through his newspapers and magazines, he exercised enormous political influence, and was famously blamed for pushing public opinion with his yellow journalism type of reporting leading the United States into a war with Spain in 1898.

Hearst Castle is a National Historic Landmark mansion located on the Central Coast of California, United States. It was designed by architect Julia Morgan between 1919 and 1947 for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, who died in 1951. He was twice elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives, and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of New York City in 1905 and 1909, for Governor of New York in 1906, and for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1910. Nonetheless, through his newspapers and magazines, he exercised enormous political influence, and was famously blamed for pushing public opinion with his yellow journalism type of reporting leading the United States into a war with Spain in 1898. His life story was the main inspiration for the development of the lead character in Orson Welles's film Citizen Kane.[3] His mansion, Hearst Castle, on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean near San Simeon, California, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, was donated by the Hearst Corporation to the state of California in 1957, and is now a State Historical Monument and a National Historic Landmark, open for public tours. Hearst formally named the estate La Cuesta Encantada ("The Enchanted Hill"), though he typically referred to it simply as "the ranch." Citizen Kane is one of the most influential films of all time and is loosely based on Hearst's life. Welles and co-writer Herman J. Mankiewicz created Kane as a composite character of multiple men, among them Harold McCormick, Samuel Insull and Howard Hughes. Hearst, enraged at the idea of Citizen Kane being a thinly disguised and very unflattering portrait of him, used his massive influence and resources in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the film from being released—all without his ever even having seen it. Welles and the studio RKO Pictures resisted the pressure, but Hearst and his Hollywood friends ultimately succeeded in pressuring theater chains to limit showings of Citizen Kane,[59] resulting in mediocre box-office numbers and seriously harming Welles's career. Nearly sixty years later, HBO offered a fictionalized version of Hearst's efforts in its picture RKO 281. Hearst is portrayed in the film by James Cromwell. Citizen Kane has twice been ranked No. 1 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies (1998 and 2007). The character of Gail Wynand in Ayn Rand's 1943 novel The Fountainhead is based on Hearst. Hearst is a major character in Gore Vidal's Narratives of Empire historic novel series. The Cat's Meow is a 2001 drama film inspired by the mysterious death of film mogul Thomas H. Ince. The film takes place aboard publisher William Randolph Hearst's yacht on a weekend cruise celebrating Ince's 42nd birthday in November 1924. Hearst is portrayed by actor Edward Herrmann. The novel Goliath (2011) by Scott Westerfeld depicts Hearst in World War I. June 2008 marked 50 years since the castle opened to the public. Today, it draws more than 1 million visitors a year.
Start your Hearst Castle Tour at the Visitors Center, located right off Highway 1. The Experience Tour is one of five offered at the castle, and is recommended for first time visitors. Tickets sell out quickly, so advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Tours average about 2 hours.
Hopping aboard the tour bus, we begin our steep and winding ascent to the castle, listing to old time music while passing roaming herds of cattle. It's easy to imagine how invited guests felt arriving at the ranch for a weeklong stay of lavish parties, good food and fine living.
William Hearst built three separate guest houses for his famous visitors, who included Hollywood glitterati, political leaders and other notables like Howard Hughes.
Passing through the main gate, we looked down in awe at the sparkling Pacific ocean, Santa Lucia mountains and rolling green hills that inspired Hearst to build here in 1919.
The Neptune Pool, with its impressive Greco-Roman colonaddes, Vermont marble statues, remnants from Roman temples and 17th century bas reliefs, is a highlight on each tour. The white marble pool is 10 feet at its deepest point and 104 feet long, featuring a unique oil-burning heating system.
Hearst's visitors had their choice of the three guesthouses, and Casa del Sol is one of the most beautiful. This 8-bedroom, 2,600 square foot Moorish retreat, with sweeping views of the Pacific, opens up to Central Plaza and Casa Grande, Hearst's 60,000 square foot Medietrranean Revival style residence.
Casa Grande has 38 bedrooms and 41 bathrooms. Total square footage of the estate exceeds 90,000 square feet.
Casa Grande itself is a palatial sight. In fact, architectural historian Lord John Norwich called it a "palace in every sense of the word."
The Central Plaza outside Casa Grande is serene and beautiful, especially as the ocean breeze blows by. The plaza and outer terraces are a great spot to relax and admire the beautiful gardens, fountains, ponds and priceless sculptures.
In fact, the castle has more than 22,000 museum quality artifacts, shipped from around the world, including ornately carved ancient European ceilings and exquisite tapestries.
There are 14 sitting rooms in Casa Grande, but the Assembly Room was where Hearst's guests gathered around 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, play cards, or enjoy a game of Monopoly before dinner. The estate has 41 fireplaces!
At 8 p.m., guests moved in to the Refectory, the only dining room in the castle. Here, Hearst enjoyed lavish meals with his mistress Marion Davies and about 15 famous visitors, always making sure there was plenty of ketchup, pickles and mustard to go around. Heart's favorite dish was rare pressed duck
The kitchen, built in 1927, featured electric appliances and the latest in modern conveniences for its time. It looks much like it did during its heyday, including spoons for enjoying bone marrow, a delicacy at the time.
Hearst employed 15 chefs, waiters, butlers and maids.
After enjoying a fine meal, guests retreated to the 50-seat Movie Theater or took a dip in the Indoor Roman pool, styled after the Italian Baths of Caracalla and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

Perched on a hilltop 1,600 feet above the crashing waves of the Pacific, Hearst's magnificent Castle is located halfway between LA and San Francisco near the town of Cambria.
June 2008 marked 50 years since the castle opened to the public. Today, it draws more than 1 million visitors a year.
Start your Hearst Castle Tour at the Visitors Center, located right off Highway 1. The Experience Tour is one of five offered at the castle, and is recommended for first time visitors. Tickets sell out quickly, so advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Tours average about 2 hours.
Hopping aboard the tour bus, we begin our steep and winding ascent to the castle, listing to old time music while passing roaming herds of cattle. It's easy to imagine how invited guests felt arriving at the ranch for a weeklong stay of lavish parties, good food and fine living.
William Hearst built three separate guest houses for his famous visitors, who included Hollywood glitterati, political leaders and other notables like Howard Hughes.
Passing through the main gate, we looked down in awe at the sparkling Pacific ocean, Santa Lucia mountains and rolling green hills that inspired Hearst to build here in 1919.
The Neptune Pool, with its impressive Greco-Roman colonaddes, Vermont marble statues, remnants from Roman temples and 17th century bas reliefs, is a highlight on each tour. The white marble pool is 10 feet at its deepest point and 104 feet long, featuring a unique oil-burning heating system.
Hearst's visitors had their choice of the three guesthouses, and Casa del Sol is one of the most beautiful. This 8-bedroom, 2,600 square foot Moorish retreat, with sweeping views of the Pacific, opens up to Central Plaza and Casa Grande, Hearst's 60,000 square foot Medietrranean Revival style residence.
Casa Grande has 38 bedrooms and 41 bathrooms. Total square footage of the estate exceeds 90,000 square feet.
Casa Grande itself is a palatial sight. In fact, architectural historian Lord John Norwich called it a "palace in every sense of the word."
The Central Plaza outside Casa Grande is serene and beautiful, especially as the ocean breeze blows by. The plaza and outer terraces are a great spot to relax and admire the beautiful gardens, fountains, ponds and priceless sculptures.
In fact, the castle has more than 22,000 museum quality artifacts, shipped from around the world, including ornately carved ancient European ceilings and exquisite tapestries.
There are 14 sitting rooms in Casa Grande, but the Assembly Room was where Hearst's guests gathered around 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, play cards, or enjoy a game of Monopoly before dinner. The estate has 41 fireplaces!
At 8 p.m., guests moved in to the Refectory, the only dining room in the castle. Here, Hearst enjoyed lavish meals with his mistress Marion Davies and about 15 famous visitors, always making sure there was plenty of ketchup, pickles and mustard to go around. Heart's favorite dish was rare pressed duck
The kitchen, built in 1927, featured electric appliances and the latest in modern conveniences for its time. It looks much like it did during its heyday, including spoons for enjoying bone marrow, a delicacy at the time.
Hearst employed 15 chefs, waiters, butlers and maids.
After enjoying a fine meal, guests retreated to the 50-seat Movie Theater or took a dip in the Indoor Roman pool, styled after the Italian Baths of Caracalla and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

Moving to New York City, he acquired The New York Journal and engaged in a bitter circulation war with Joseph Pulitzer's New York World that led to the creation of yellow journalism—sensationalized stories of dubious veracity. Acquiring more newspapers, Hearst created a chain that numbered nearly 30 papers in major American cities at its peak. He later expanded to magazines, creating the largest newspaper and magazine business in the world.
He was twice elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives, and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of New York City in 1905 and 1909, for Governor of New York in 1906, and for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1910. Hearst, enraged at the idea of Citizen Kane being a thinly disguised and very unflattering portrait of him, used his massive influence and resources in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the film from being released—all without his ever even having seen it. We check out of the Best Western Plus Victorian Inn in Monterey and grabbed some of there complimentary continental breakfast. Before our drive down the coastal Highway 1 we check out the sites on 17-Mile Drive.
17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula in California, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses, mansions and scenic attractions, including the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock and the 5,300-acre Del Monte Forest of Monterey Cypress trees.At the north end, a portion of the early route through Pacific Grove begins at the intersection of Del Monte Blvd and Esplanade Street. The famous portion of 17-Mile Drive then begins a few miles south of this point. The crossing of Highway 68 (Holman Highway/Sunset Drive) and 17-Mile Drive marks the entrance to Pebble Beach. From the Sunset Drive/Pacific Grove gate, the drive runs inland past Spanish Bay, then adjacent to beaches and up into the coastal hills, providing scenic viewpoints.
The road provides vistas of golf courses including Spyglass Hill, Cypress Point and Pebble Beach. After reaching Carmel Way, and the exit to Carmel, the 17-Mile Drive then heads northeast to the Highway 68/Highway 1 interchange, where one can exit, or continue to loop along the higher vistas of 17-Mile Drive, some of which offer views from more than 600 feet above sea-level. The full loop will take you back to the Pacific Grove Gate at Sunset Drive — a distance of 17 miles.
To drive the section of the road within the Pebble Beach gated community, there is an entrance fee requirement of US$10.00 (as of August 12, 2014), except for travelers on bicycles. Visitors can recoup the toll if they dine or shop within the community.
We continued our scenic drive down Hwy 1 to Sam Simeon. After our long drive we arrived at the Hearst Castle visitor center and hopped a bus up to take our tour.
Hearst Castle is a National and California Historical Landmark mansion located on the Central Coast of California, United States. It was designed by architect Julia Morgan between 1919 and 1947 for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, who died in 1951. The California Park Commission voted to approve its inclusion in the California State Park System, and that was approved by the California State Legislature in 1954
Hearst formally named the estate "La Cuesta Encantada" ("The Enchanted Hill"), but usually called it "the ranch". Hearst Castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as "San Simeon" without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the adjacent unincorporated area of the same name.Hearst Castle featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds.
Among Hearst's A-list guests were Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, Dolores Del Rio, and Winston Churchill.Hearst Castle was the inspiration for the "Xanadu" mansion of the 1941 Orson Welles film Citizen Kane, a fictionalization of William Randolph Hearst's career.Since the property was donated to the state of California only two projects have been granted permission: Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, which used the castle to stand in as Crassus' villa; and Lady Gaga's music video for "G.U.Y."
One highlight of the estate is the outdoor Neptune Pool, located near the edge of the hilltop, which offers an expansive vista of the mountains, ocean and the main house. Due to drought conditions and leaks in the pool, it is now drained.
After our tour we grabbed a snack (pulled pork sandwich and chips) from the visitor center before our drive to Morro Bay.
We drove for 45 minutes to Morro Bay and stoped at a ocean view restaurant with a view of Morro Rock ( I think it was Hofbrau der Albatross) . It was very good. I had a seafood I had the Seafood Combo with 2 piece fish, 2 piece calamari, clam strips and fries. Nicole had a salad and creamy New England style clam chowder. We even saw some seals playing in the water.
We continued our drive to Malibu stopping off at a Best Buy in Santa Barbara so i could buy more memory cards for my cameras. WE finally arrived at the Sheraton Agoura Hills Hotel to crash for the night. Our plan was to explore the Malibu area in the morning.

We check out of the Best Western Plus Victorian Inn in Monterey and grabbed some of there complimentary continental breakfast. Before our drive down the coastal Highway 1 we check out the sites on 17-Mile Drive.
17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula in California, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses, mansions and scenic attractions, including the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock and the 5,300-acre Del Monte Forest of Monterey Cypress trees.At the north end, a portion of the early route through Pacific Grove begins at the intersection of Del Monte Blvd and Esplanade Street. The famous portion of 17-Mile Drive then begins a few miles south of this point. The crossing of Highway 68 (Holman Highway/Sunset Drive) and 17-Mile Drive marks the entrance to Pebble Beach. From the Sunset Drive/Pacific Grove gate, the drive runs inland past Spanish Bay, then adjacent to beaches and up into the coastal hills, providing scenic viewpoints.
The road provides vistas of golf courses including Spyglass Hill, Cypress Point and Pebble Beach. After reaching Carmel Way, and the exit to Carmel, the 17-Mile Drive then heads northeast to the Highway 68/Highway 1 interchange, where one can exit, or continue to loop along the higher vistas of 17-Mile Drive, some of which offer views from more than 600 feet above sea-level. The full loop will take you back to the Pacific Grove Gate at Sunset Drive — a distance of 17 miles.
To drive the section of the road within the Pebble Beach gated community, there is an entrance fee requirement of US$10.00 (as of August 12, 2014), except for travelers on bicycles. Visitors can recoup the toll if they dine or shop within the community.
We continued our scenic drive down Hwy 1 to Sam Simeon. After our long drive we arrived at the Hearst Castle visitor center and hopped a bus up to take our tour.
Hearst Castle is a National and California Historical Landmark mansion located on the Central Coast of California, United States. It was designed by architect Julia Morgan between 1919 and 1947 for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, who died in 1951. The California Park Commission voted to approve its inclusion in the California State Park System, and that was approved by the California State Legislature in 1954
Hearst formally named the estate "La Cuesta Encantada" ("The Enchanted Hill"), but usually called it "the ranch". Hearst Castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as "San Simeon" without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the adjacent unincorporated area of the same name.Hearst Castle featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds.
Among Hearst's A-list guests were Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, Dolores Del Rio, and Winston Churchill.Hearst Castle was the inspiration for the "Xanadu" mansion of the 1941 Orson Welles film Citizen Kane, a fictionalization of William Randolph Hearst's career.Since the property was donated to the state of California only two projects have been granted permission: Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, which used the castle to stand in as Crassus' villa; and Lady Gaga's music video for "G.U.Y."
One highlight of the estate is the outdoor Neptune Pool, located near the edge of the hilltop, which offers an expansive vista of the mountains, ocean and the main house. Due to drought conditions and leaks in the pool, it is now drained.
After our tour we grabbed a snack (pulled pork sandwich and chips) from the visitor center before our drive to Morro Bay.
We drove for 45 minutes to Morro Bay and stoped at a ocean view restaurant with a view of Morro Rock ( I think it was Hofbrau der Albatross) . It was very good. I had a seafood I had the Seafood Combo with 2 piece fish, 2 piece calamari, clam strips and fries. Nicole had a salad and creamy New England style clam chowder. We even saw some seals playing in the water.
We continued our drive to Malibu stopping off at a Best Buy in Santa Barbara so i could buy more memory cards for my cameras. WE finally arrived at the Sheraton Agoura Hills Hotel to crash for the night. Our plan was to explore the Malibu area in the morning.

We've gotten wind this week of not one, but two possible new music videos that Lady Gaga is planning for us. Mother Monster is currently at the historic Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA filming a big-budget music video and more. Take a look at some sneaky Instagram videos of first, the stunning outdoor Neptune Pool and second the indoor Roman Pool where the video crew is setting up.
What you just saw were the two main locations Gaga will be filming in the castle. The intricate fortress was built by newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst, and boasts enough art to make Gaga's heart burst. I know, cause I've been there and it's awesome. The nearby San Luis Obispo Tribune paper reports filming is taking place this week with a crew of over 150 people which tourists have seen crews carry bags of fake flowers and giant seashells. Gaga will donate $250,000 to the Hearst Castle Foundation on top of the normal site fees, and film a water conservation public service announcement and a feature on the castle itself. So it's safe to say Gaga is taking over a castle. But for what song is she making a music video for? We think "Venus" is a perfect song for the artistic castle, while many speculate it's G.U.Y. based on songs heard playing on set. Another item to consider is the recent news of Lady Gaga filming a music video with the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills after their latest reunion in LA. It's no secret Gaga is a huge RHOBH fan (So are we!) and she asked them to be in her video, but again, we don't know what the video is. Perhaps all this is for the SAME video? Bloodborne - Cainhurst - Gain entry to Cainhurst, the lost and ruined castle. [Silver] To get access to Cainhurst Castle you must first find the Cainhurst Summons Letter. It is in the room where the game started. You must go through the "Forbidden Woods" area to reach it (accessed from the Cathedral Ward). Stay on the left side of the area and go up the hill, then through the acid swamp and up some ladders. Eventually you will come to the back entrance of the clinic where the game started, but it's a very long walk. California travel expert Veronica Hill shares her Hearst Castle Travel Guide in this episode of California Travel Tips.
This magnificent estate, perched above the crashing surf of San Simeon, was built by William Randoph Hearst in 1919. During its heyday, the castle played host to Hollywood's hottest stars, from Howard Hughes to Marion Davies (Hearst's mistress).
The Grand Rooms Tour is one of five tours offered at the castle, and is recommended for first time visitors. Highlights include the white marble Neptune Pool; 50-seat movie theater; indoor Roman pool, and 60,000-square-foot Casa Grande, Hearst's main residence. The castle's art collection includes 22,000 museum-quality artifacts from around the world.
For a special treat, check out the "Christmas in the Castle" tour, when the estate is transformed into a holiday display of bright red poinsettias, hand-made garlands and Christmas trees almost 20 feet tall. The evening tour features Living History docents dressed in 1930s period clothing. Tickets sell out quickly, so advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
When you're done touring the castle, don't miss a visit to the elephant seal rookery nearby. It's a scene right out of National Geographic.
Tip: Hearst Castle has two restaurants at the Visitor Center, selling a variety of burgers, wraps and sandwiches. Fresh pastries, ice creams, tea and cappuccinos are sold at the espresso bar.

I filmed bits of our trip informally. I wasn't sure how it would turn out and if I would put it up or just keep it for ourselves. I thought I would find it difficult to actively "vlog". After you've made the obligatory stop at the amazing and beautiful Hearst Castle, travel about 7 miles north on Highway 1 until you see the sign for the elephant seal rookery. This vista point is one of the best spots to view elephant seals on the West coast, and they come and go year-round. For a special treat, come in January, when the babies are being born. Docents are here daily to answer questions and prevent the seals (and curious humans) from harming each other.

Bloodborne - Cainhurst - Gain entry to Cainhurst, the lost and ruined castle. [Silver]
To get access to Cainhurst Castle you must first find the Cainhurst Summons Letter. It is in the room where the game started. You must go through the "Forbidden Woods" area to reach it (accessed from the Cathedral Ward). Stay on the left side of the area and go up the hill, then through the acid swamp and up some ladders. Eventually you will come to the back entrance of the clinic where the game started, but it's a very long walk.
Pick up the Cainhurst Summons in the clinic and teleport to "Hemwick Charnel Lane" (accessed from the Cathedral Ward). There's a cliff just before fighting the Witch of Hemwick boss. When you walk towards the cliff a cutscene will be triggered and a carriage is summoned. Enter the carriage and it will bring you to Cainhurst Castle.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ... They were surprised when they came across this huge alligator instead ... I hate seeing a beautiful dinosaur like that killed.???? #RIP....
