Belgrade Fortress (Serbian: Београдска тврђава, Beogradska tvrđava), consists of the old citadel (Upper and Lower Town) and Kalemegdan Park (Large and Little Kalemegdan) on the confluence of the River Sava and Danube, in an urban area of modern Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Stari Grad. Belgrade Fortress was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979, and is protected by the Republic of Serbia.
Belgrade Fortress is located on top of the 125.5-meter high ending ridge of the Šumadija geological bar. The cliff-like ridge overlooks the Great War Island (Serbian: Veliko ratno ostrvo) and the confluence of the Sava river into the Danube, and makes one of the most beautiful natural lookouts in Belgrade. It borders the neighborhoods of Dorćol (north and north-east), Stari Grad (east) and Kosančićev Venac (Savamala; south). It is encircled by three streets: Boulevard of Vojvoda Bojović, Tadeuša Košćuška, Pariska, and the railway along the riverside.
Belgrade (/ˈbɛlɡreɪd/; Serbian: Beograd / Београд; [beǒɡrad]; names in other languages) is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. Its name translates to "White city". The city has a population of 1.23 million, while over 1.65 million people live within city limits .
One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC. In antiquity, Thraco-Dacians inhabited the region, and after 279 BC Celts conquered the city, naming it Singidūn. It was conquered by the Romans during the reign of Augustus, and awarded city rights in the mid-2nd century. It was settled by the Slavs in the 520s, and changed hands several times between the Byzantine Empire, Frankish Empire, Bulgarian Empire and Kingdom of Hungary before it became the capital of Serbian king Stephen Dragutin (1282–1316). In 1521, Belgrade was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and became the seat of the Sanjak of Smederevo. It frequently passed from Ottoman to Habsburg rule, which saw the destruction of most of the city during the Austro-Ottoman wars. Belgrade was again named the capital of Serbia in 1841. Northern Belgrade remained the southernmost Habsburg post until 1918, when the city was reunited. As a strategic location, the city was battled over in 115 wars and razed to the ground 44 times. Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia (in various forms of governments) from its creation in 1918, to its final dissolution in 2006.

The historical landscape of the old citadel of Belgrade Fortress in Kalemegdan Park is a real history adventure. Stari Grad in Serbia is known for its night life, great food and shopping; but, having an incredible well-preserved fortress and zoo within walking distance from other major attractions, is extremely rare. Even the River Sava and Danube are all within reach of this major European city. Please enjoy our video of the beautiful landscape and architecture of Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park. http://www.inyourpocket.com/ Belgrade Fortress & Kalemegdan Park Located on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Sava river into the Danube. The Romans were the first to build a fort (castrum) at this site and in the late 1st century AD, it became HQ of the IV Flavian Legion. Over the centuries of sieges, battles and conquests, the fortress was repeatedly razed to the ground, rebuilt and restructured. It took on its present shape round the end of the 18th century, but again, the wars that followed swept away nearly all the buildings. The Belgrade Fortress consists of Upper Town, Lower Town and Kalemegdan Park. Kalemegdan Park was created as late as the 19th century, on a plateau in front of the fortress, which had been cleared for centuries to allow for unobstructed view of the advan...
A tour of the Belgrade Fortress (Serbia). Serbia is a country on southeast Europe's Balkan peninsula with vast northern plateaus and mountains with ski resorts to the south. Capital city Belgrade is home to Communist-era architecture and Kalemegdan Park, site of an ancient fortress held successively by the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Floating nightclubs on the Danube and Sava rivers are a distinctive part of the city’s nightlife. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. 7/31 Wednesday We take a walk to see the City Fortress. It's funny to see a clay tennis court where the moat used to be, and also some basketball courts and something that looks like an ax throwing arena. Near the entrance, there's a small building with a Gem display from the Natural History Museum. It costs us a full $0.75 each to see it. There are nice examples of crystals and minerals from a Kosovo mine. As we walk into the Fortress, we drop 100 dinars into the box for a man playing traditional songs on a guitar-like instrument, sitting under a big Sycamore tree. Feels good to be so well-heeled. The Fortress is gigantic, taking up all of the property around the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers. It's all laid out like a park, with benches, snack vendors, people selling tra...

00:41 Scene 1: Match 06:53 Scene 2: City 14:17 Scene 3: Girls 21:06 Scene 4: Food 27:12 Scene 5: Nightlife Serbia’s capital Belgrade is a highly underestimated city. I admit visiting it myself mainly based upon the poor reputation it has carved out for itself. Of course I conjectured that what people say is wrong. I was right. The city is great! Before coming I was excited about watching Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) play. Watching them live was obviously one of the highlights of my stay in Beograd. There’s also a museum at the stadium worth checking out were you can witness their proud history. The city was kind of hard to get oriented in and I did get lost quite a few times walking around trying to find the fortress. Walking is still far preferable to taking a taxi though as you end up s...
Through some bits and pieces, you've seen more of the Belgrade city centre, but I haven't made a dedicated movie since 2012. So, why not as the last ride of Season 2014? This movie is intended as an update of #22, showing you many of the same places (some from new perspective), but also as an upgrade, adding some cool things like Skadarlija, famous bohemian area. But there are also some dinosaurs (!), fortress gates and churches. Also included in this package is the area above the train station, Slavija Sq, The Strip, The Republic Square and Knez Mihailova St (pedestrian zone). So enjoy as the next movie will be from Season 2015! My special greeting this time goes to people fighting the ridiculous rules like "don't climb the wall" or "do not put your cat into the microwave". Such rules,...
8/2 Friday A military museum is Bob's idea of a good time, and there's a big one at the Fortress. We're having another hot day, so we walk slowly down the avenue to the fort and into the museum, which has no air conditioning. It's a large, old building and the exhibits are arranged in a maze of hallways through the whole place. It starts with the city's earliest history of Stone Age weapons and moves through the years, one war after another. The last exhibit holds an American pilot's gear and bits of a Stealth fighter that was shot down during the NATO bombings, or NATO Aggression, as it's labeled. Our next goal is the Museum of Contemporary Art, a bit of a walk over a busy bridge to a park across the river. We pass through an interesting part of the city, a bit like lower Manhatta...
