Auschwitz concentration camp (German: Konzentrationslager Auschwitz, also KZ Auschwitz [kɔntsɛntʁaˈtsi̯oːnsˌlaːɡɐ ˈʔaʊʃvɪts]) was a network of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. It consisted of Auschwitz I (the original camp), Auschwitz II–Birkenau (a combination concentration/extermination camp), Auschwitz III–Monowitz (a labor camp to staff an IG Farben factory), and 45 satellite camps.
Auschwitz I was first constructed to hold Polish political prisoners, who began to arrive in May 1940. The first extermination of prisoners took place in September 1941, and Auschwitz II–Birkenau went on to become a major site of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish question". From early 1942 until late 1944, transport trains delivered Jews to the camp's gas chambers from all over German-occupied Europe, where they were killed with the pesticide Zyklon B. At least 1.1 million prisoners died at Auschwitz, around 90 percent of them Jewish; approximately 1 in 6 Jews killed in the Holocaust died at the camp. Others deported to Auschwitz included 150,000 Poles, 23,000 Romani and Sinti, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, 400 Jehovah's Witnesses, and tens of thousands of others of diverse nationalities, including an unknown number of homosexuals. Many of those not killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.

This is from an ABC News documentary on the 20th Century, hosted by Peter Jennings, that aired on the History Channel around the turn of the century 1999 to 2000. At the time, my mother lived in Munkács, Czechoslovakia, which is now in the Ukraine and had also, at one time, been part of Hungary.

About 11 million victims, mostly Jews, and also Romanis, homosexuals, to name a few groups of human beings, were unilaterally determined by Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler to be unworthy of living. Some died in medical experiments, some by summary execution, many by starvation, but most died by systematic killings in extermination camps built by the Nazi government in Germany and in German-controlled territories in the early 1940s. The number killed in the complex Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau in Nazi-occupied Poland topped the number systematically killed. This video contains three parts: 1. Minibus travel from Krakow in southern Poland to Auschwitz (Oświęcim in Polish), during which a video introducing the camp's operation is shown to passengers on the minibus. 2. Visit to Au...

Recorded on 23 May 2015 at Auschwitz II (Birkenau), official Auschwitz guide Ewa Pasterak and Auschwitz survivor Elzbieta Sobczynska explain why the Nazis built the Birkenau concentration camp. Initially, as they describe, it was not constructed as an extermination camp but as a source of cheap labor for the IG Farben pharmaceutical and chemical Cartel. The Buna industrial plant, known as IG Auschwitz, was a 100% subsidiary of IG Farben and was located about 6 kilometers from Auschwitz in the direction of Krakow. EULOGY FOR ALICE SYLVESTER BY HER SON, LARRY GROSS On January 18, 2016, my mother, Alice Sylvester, passed 13 days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was an extremely strong woman having survived the horrors of the Holocaust. But, the effects of dementia were too overcoming. In 1944, she & her family were deported to Auschwitz from her small town of Munkács, which was then part of Czechoslovakia, once part of Hungary, now in the Ukraine. Ultimately she was ordered to the gas chamber. But, miraculously, there was a malfunction in releasing the lethal gas. That malfunction is why I exist. She eventually dedicated her life to telling her story, volunteering at the Wiesenthal Center & Museum of Tolerance. Her unique story was told on national news & talk shows. She ended her talks by telling peopl...
Alice Summers, 108 year old survivor of a Nazi concentration camp interviewed by Anthony Robbins Read more about Alice Herz-Sommer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Herz-Sommer At age 108, Holocaust survivor Alice Herz Sommer still practices piano for 3 hours every day. At age 104, she had a book written about her life: "A Garden Of Eden In Hell." At age 83, she had cancer. Alice survived the concentration camps through her music, her optimism and her gratitude for the small things that came her way - a smile, a kind word, the sun. When asked about the secret of her longevity, Alice says: "I look where it is good." Alice Sommer passed away peacefully, aged 110 on Feb. 23rd, 2014 with her family by her bedside. Rest in Peace, dear Alice. We are so grateful for your life and inspiration....
Crowded like animals
You're the waste of existence
Doomed to ignorance
You'll disappear in shame and pain
The spectre of Auschwitz is hauting your minds
It didn't forgot you were born to suffer
And we, ruling over your insipid lives
We'll raise our weapons and you will return to the past
The proof of your decay, Auschwitz didn't go away
You will know the agony of your carnal hypocrisy
Burn in the flames of hatred, be forgotten in the sphere of silence
Forever now you will be nothing but an empty page of history
Auschwitz rules over the torah
Auschwitz rules over the coran
Auschwitz rules over the bible
