Here's the celebrated singer songwriter John D. Loudermilk in a rare appearance on BBC Television in 1984. The show also has a very enjoyable appearance by The Furies and Davey Arthur.
John D. Loudermilk (born March 31, 1934) is an American singer and songwriter.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Loudermilk grew up in a family who were members of the Salvation Army faith and was influenced by the church singing. His cousins Ira and Charlie Loudermilk were known professionally as the Louvin Brothers. Loudermilk is a graduate of Campbell College (now Campbell University), a private North Carolina Baptist Convention-owned college in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
As a young boy he learned to play the guitar, and while still in his teens wrote a poem that he set to music, A Rose and a Baby Ruth. The owners of the local television station, where he worked as a handyman, allowed him to play the song on-air, resulting in country musician George Hamilton IV putting it on record in 1956. After Eddie Cochran had his first hit record with Loudermilk's song, "Sittin' in the Balcony", Loudermilk's career path was firmly set.
Loudermilk recorded some of his songs, including "Sittin' in the Balcony", under the stage name Johnny Dee (reaching No. 38 on the pop charts in 1957). His 'Johnny Dee' records were recorded for the North Carlina based Colonial Records.
In 1958, he signed with Columbia Records and recorded five unsuccessful singles through 1959.[1]
In 1961, he signed with RCA Victor, where he had a number of hits:
Language Of Love (US No. 32/ UK Top 20) in 1961.
Thou Shalt Not Steal (US No. 73) in 1962
Callin' Doctor Casey (US No. 83) in 1962
Road Hog (US No. 65) in 1962.
But it was as a songwriter that he made his mark. In 1963 he wrote another all-time hit for George Hamilton IV, Abilene. Working out of country music capital Nashville, Tennessee, Loudermilk became one of the most productive songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s, penning country and pop music hits for the Everly Brothers, Johnny Tillotson, Chet Atkins, The Nashville Teens, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Johnny Cash, Marianne Faithfull, Stonewall Jackson, Sue Thompson and others. For example, he wrote The Pale Faced Indian, later known as Indian Reservation, a hit in the 70s.
"Midnight Bus" was recorded by several singers, and he commented that the best was by Betty McQuade in Melbourne, Australia.
Loudermilk was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1976[2] and was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

The film concerns Doc Jenkins, (Willie Nelson), a country and western composer and the devious tricks he employs to extricate himself from his legal entanglement with a Nashville gangster entrepreneur who takes all the profits from his songs. Fed up with life touring, and making no money from recordings of his music, Doc has turned to managing the career of his old singing partner Blackie Buck, (Kris Kristofferson). Doc takes a further client - a woman singer, Gilda, (Lesley Ann Warren). He wants to get back with his ex-wife Honey (Melinda Dillon). He wants solid ground beneath his feet again.
The film is a satirical comedy about an artist seeking his freedom. The material is loosely based on Willie Nelson's own life, and legend, and finances. His song "Night Life", for example, which he sold in 1961 for $150, went on to be recorded by over 70 artists and sold more than 30 million copies.
The film is reviewed, favourably, by the critic Pauline Kael in her collection of movie reviews, Hooked. "Playing a vain, laid-back sensualist, the silver bearded Kristofferson has a smiling glow; he has never been more at ease; Rip Torn is the pictures insurance against gentility. Everything he says sounds mean and dirty, and even when you can't understand his snarled out words he makes you laugh. Rhonda Dotson has something of Teri Garr's manic alertness and dippiness, too, but in a softer form. She's a romantic comedienne with awesome poise. Richard C. Sarafian has a whomping comic menace. Lesley Ann Warren's Gilda is spectacular. When we first see Gilda, she's a singer with no belief in herself and no class; she's an incredibly beautiful girl in a red dress [but] when Doc grooms her to go out as the opening act for Blackie, she begins to learn something about taste and musicianship, and her voice flowers. Besides being one of the great beauties of the screen, Warren can sing."

John D. Loudermilk (born March 31, 1934) is an American singer and songwriter.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Loudermilk grew up in a family who were members of the Salvation Army faith and was influenced by the church singing. His cousins Ira and Charlie Loudermilk were known professionally as the Louvin Brothers. Loudermilk is a graduate of Campbell College (now Campbell University), a private North Carolina Baptist Convention-owned college in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
As a young boy he learned to play the guitar, and while still in his teens wrote a poem that he set to music, A Rose and a Baby Ruth. The owners of the local television station, where he worked as a handyman, allowed him to play the song on-air, resulting in country musician George Hamilton IV putting it on record in 1956. After Eddie Cochran had his first hit record with Loudermilk's song, "Sittin' in the Balcony", Loudermilk's career path was firmly set.
Loudermilk recorded some of his songs, including "Sittin' in the Balcony", under the stage name Johnny Dee (reaching No. 38 on the pop charts in 1957). His 'Johnny Dee' records were recorded for the North Carlina based Colonial Records.
In 1958, he signed with Columbia Records and recorded five unsuccessful singles through 1959.[1]
In 1961, he signed with RCA Victor, where he had a number of hits:
Language Of Love (US No. 32/ UK Top 20) in 1961.
Thou Shalt Not Steal (US No. 73) in 1962
Callin' Doctor Casey (US No. 83) in 1962
Road Hog (US No. 65) in 1962.
But it was as a songwriter that he made his mark. In 1963 he wrote another all-time hit for George Hamilton IV, Abilene. Working out of country music capital Nashville, Tennessee, Loudermilk became one of the most productive songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s, penning country and pop music hits for the Everly Brothers, Johnny Tillotson, Chet Atkins, The Nashville Teens, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Johnny Cash, Marianne Faithfull, Stonewall Jackson, Sue Thompson and others. For example, he wrote The Pale Faced Indian, later known as Indian Reservation, a hit in the 70s.
"Midnight Bus" was recorded by several singers, and he commented that the best was by Betty McQuade in Melbourne, Australia.
Loudermilk was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1976[2] and was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

Grant and Christian singer-songwriter Michael W Smith wrote this song. It is a worshipful hymn based on Psalm 119 v 105. The song was recorded at Caribou Ranch recording studio high in the Rocky Mountains.
Michael originally came up with the song's melody and some words for the chorus straight from David's Psalms about being a light into my path. Amy fell in love with his demo, but as Michael had no idea what the verses were supposed to say, he gave it to her and told her she could finish the tune. "So later that night she starts walking back to her cabin," Michael told us. "And you have to understand Caribou Ranch is an 8,000 acre ranch and it's very dark, and you're in the middle of nowhere. And she got lost. There's bears and all that sort of thing. You've got to really know where you're going. It's obviously a compound with all these cabins and stuff."
"She finally saw a lamp and started walking towards that light, didn't realize that that was her cabin," he continued. "And she walked into that little cabin and sat down with a notebook and pen and wrote the verses to 'Thy Word.'"

Gibb began his career as part of the family trio and when the group found their first success they returned to the United Kingdom where they achieved worldwide fame. In 2004, the Bee Gees received their CBEs from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace for their "contribution to music".[9] With record sales estimated in excess of 200 million units, the Bee Gees became one of the most successful pop groups of all time.[10] Music historian Paul Gambaccini described Gibb as "one of the major figures in the history of British music" and "one of the best white soul voices ever".

Tom Richardson is a sublime Australian acoustic and blues singer/songwriter, who's had his music featured on Rip Curl surfing documentaries, played shows & festivals in 15 different countries around the planet and has just dropped his brand new ‘Pockets’ EP, which he’s going to be touring around Australia, Canada and Europe in 2016.
Tom and I met 5.5 years ago when he joined the line-up for the 1st ever Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! project (then called Hot & Delicious Records), ‘Change Australia, Change The World’, an event held in the iconic Gershwin Room at The Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda (Melbourne, Australia) to raise awareness for Oxfam Australia’s involvement for Close The Gap.
Today’swonderful, ranging & inspiring chats cover ambition and travelling the world as a solo musician since the age of 21, living in Bali and recording an EP in the middle of the jungle in Bali with crickets, geckos, motorbikes and Jetstar’s Denpaser flight as backing vocals, finding a life partner in Canada & the invaluable life lessons they teach each other, his first ever memory as a child, going into the surf with his dad and the feelings of pure exhilaration & joy that surfing brings, coming into your own as a person, creator and performer by not being afraid to be open & honest with yourself and others, which is when you feel truly happy.
I just get so excited that I’m able to support good people in their ambitious pursuits & doubly so when they produce such magical music & are so damn inspiring!

65 Tom Richardson (Australian singer/songwriter).
Tom Richardson is a sublime Australian acoustic and blues singer/songwriter, who's had his music featured on Rip Curl surfing documentaries, played shows & festivals in 15 different countries around the planet and has just dropped his brand new ‘Pockets’ EP, which he’s going to be touring around Australia, Canada and Europe in 2016.
Tom and I met 5.5 years ago when he joined the line-up for the 1st ever Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! project (then called Hot & Delicious Records), ‘Change Australia, Change The World’, an event held in the iconic Gershwin Room at The Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda (Melbourne, Australia) to raise awareness for Oxfam Australia’s involvement for Close The Gap.
Today’swonderful, ranging & inspiring chats cover ambition and travelling the world as a solo musician since the age of 21, living in Bali and recording an EP in the middle of the jungle in Bali with crickets, geckos, motorbikes and Jetstar’s Denpaser flight as backing vocals, finding a life partner in Canada & the invaluable life lessons they teach each other, his first ever memory as a child, going into the surf with his dad and the feelings of pure exhilaration & joy that surfing brings, coming into your own as a person, creator and performer by not being afraid to be open & honest with yourself and others, which is when you feel truly happy.
I just get so excited that I’m able to support good people in their ambitious pursuits & doubly so when they produce such magical music & are so damn inspiring!

As a returning guest lecturer at Stanford University, Krista works with students in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric. Her album, Chocolate Paper Suites, is required reading for the course, The 'isms of Modernism. She tours extensively around the globe, conducting songwriting workshops and performing with well-known artists such as Suzanne Vega, The Neville Brothers & Louden Wainwright. Krista also partners with international writers and musicians to marry the studies of literature, world culture, and music. One noted collaboration was The Darwin Songhouse, a project in which songwriters sequestered in Shrewsbury, England to write songs celebrating the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. Along with Carrie Newcomer, Krista collaborated with three fellow Indiana artists to create the CD and stage show, Wilderness Plots - the stories of Scott Russel Sanders set to music, resulting in an Emmy-Nominated PBS Special and recognition by both houses of the Indiana Legislature for Contributions to the Arts.
