Adam (Hebrew: אָדָם, Arabic: آدم, Syriac: ܐܵܕ݂ܵܡ) is a figure in the Book of Genesis, the Qur'an and the Kitáb-i-Íqán. According to the creation myth of Abrahamic religions, he is the first human. In the Genesis creation narratives, he was created by Yahweh-Elohim ("Yahweh-God", the god of Israel), though the term "adam" can refer to both the first individual person, as well as to the general creation of humankind. Christian churches differ on how they view Adam's subsequent behavior (often called the Fall of man), and to the consequences that those actions had on the rest of humanity. Christian and Jewish teachings sometimes hold Adam and Eve (the first woman) to a different level of responsibility for the Fall, though Islamic teaching holds both equally responsible. In addition, Islam holds that Adam was eventually forgiven, while Christianity holds that redemption occurred only later through the sacrifice of God's son, Jesus Christ. Bahá'í Faith, Islam and some Christian denominations consider Adam to be the first Prophet.
Adam Hamdy (born March 12, 1974) is a British writer, film producer and director best known for his debut comic book limited series The Hunter.
Hamdy was born and raised in London, United Kingdom.
Hamdy attended the University of Oxford, and graduated with a degree in law. He also holds a degree in philosophy from the University of London. After a number of low-level jobs in the media industry, Hamdy joined the consulting team at Lloyd's of London. From there, he went on to join a niche management consulting firm.
Using seed finance provided by the partners in his consulting firm, Hamdy founded a company that developed specialist online payment systems. He raised £7.5m in venture capital to launch the business. The business was later sold to one of the venture capital investors. Between 2000 and 2001, Hamdy co-wrote a weekly diary column for The Guardian on the ups and downs of being an Internet entrepreneur.
Hamdy left the corporate world to focus on building a career as a writer. As a screenwriter, he has worked with film producers on both sides of the Atlantic. He has also written for the video game industry. His debut comic The Hunter launched in December 2007. The first issue of Hamdy's second comic Starmaker: Leviathan was published online in 2009. In late 2009 it was announced that Hunter had been optioned for a film by Scarlet Fire Entertainment, with Hamdy providing the script. Hamdy will produce alongside Allan Loeb and Steven Pearl.
