Plot: The year is 1732. John Wesley, an irritatingly self-righteous instructor at Oxford is offered the chance to go to the new colony of Georgia, where he hopes to preach to the Indians. During the voyage, the ship encounters a violent storm; overwhelmed with the fear of death, Wesley begins to doubt the validity of his faith In Georgia, Wesley's plans are waylaid: he is not able to do much preaching among the native tribes, and falls in love with Sophy Hopkey, the beautiful niece of the local magistrate. When the star-crossed romance fails to produce a proposal from the angst-ridden young minister, Sophy marries another; bitterness explodes between the two until one day Wesley publicly refuses to serve Holy Communion to Sophy. He is arrested for defamation of character - and is to be tried by Sophy's uncle! There will be no fair trial here. Escaping from Savannah, he returns to England in failure and shame. Back in London, he meets a Moravian missionary, Peter Boehler, who counsels the disturbed and depressed young man. John struggles with his failure and fears and is finally experiences the peace he longed for: "I felt my heart strangely warmed." Wesley begins to preach about his experience of saving faith, but is turned out of most churches in London. Undaunted, he begins preaching in fields, and discovers a hungry audience in the downtrodden poor of England. Appalled by the terrible needs of families overwhelmed with alcoholism, abuse, and poverty, John and his hymn-writing brother Charles begin revolutionary (and controversial) social ministries to better the lives of the poor while also preaching to them of the transformation of the heart. Despite opposition, mob violence that seeks to break up their meetings, Wesley and his "Methodies" establish social ministries to the poor that transformed the face of England. Today, almost 75 million people worldwide trace their spiritual heritage back to John Wesley.

John Wesley Not everyone who says Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven
Not everyone that sayeth unto me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them,
I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Therefore whosoever heareth of these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a
Wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the wind's blew, and beat upon the house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth the sayings of mine, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the flo

Without this continual witness of the Holy Spirit, mans fleshly wisdom and carnal mind is all that is known. Man's natural mind trying to interpret
Scripture will inevitably bring the leaven and spread of man made doctrines and the honest doubting Wesley knew.
This movie's plot reveals that Wesley's mental assent to information about the
Gospel, concerned Wesley's
Father enough to confront His son about truly not being continually saved by the witness of God.
Arminianism and it's mantra prayers of "repeat after me" do not produce continual salvation abiding living faith, which is the proof and fruit of true abiding salvation.
Flesh lead works that Arminianism facilitates produces doubts of the "operation of God"
Colossians 2:12.
The abundant evidence of decisional prayer "decisions" that continue to abide, stay and remain in the practice of sin, is enough proof that salvation is, and belongs solely to the Lords prerogative work.
Jesus' salvation for the few that are chosen, among the many called (
Matthew 22:14), is following and obey His abiding doctrine that bears the fruit of salvation and walks in His way.
The Parable of the Sower
Matthew 13:1-12,
Mark 4:
1-20,
Luke 8:4-15, declares salivation's good ground that alone saves, producing the true regenerative fruit of possessing living salvation.
In June 1766 John Wesley said. "In one of my last [letters] I was saying that I do not feel the wrath of God abiding on me; nor can
I believe it does. And yet (this is the mystery), I do not love God.
I never did. Therefore I never believed, in the

This is a strange statement, completely not understandable to those who receive sovereign grace. His "strangely warmed" experience would not be enough to remove confusion facilitated by Arminian synergism.

And every one that heareth the sayings of mine, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the wind's blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Matthew 7:21-27.

Notes in "The standard Sermons of
John Wesley 1771:
This sermon was preached at
Bexley in January 1753. I went to
St Saviours gate
Church in York. At close of prayers the rector sent the sexton to tell me that the pulpit was at my service. I preached on the conclusion of the
Gospel for the day " Not everyone that sayeth unto me Lord, Lord" O did not see one person laugh or smile although we had an elegant congregation.
In an article by
Daniel M'Allum in the
Methodist magazine 1887, he says: "At that th=time the
Reverend Cordeux was incumbent of the living of St Saviours and he warned his congregation against hearing "that vagabond
Wesley preach". Mr Wesley came to the city on a Saturday, preached in Peaseholme chapel and again on
Sunday morning. In the forenoon of that day he when to
St Saviour's church dressed in his canonicals.
The clergy in the course of reading the prayers saw a stranger cleric, and sent an officer to invite him to take the pulpit. He accepted the invitation, and stuck his text from the gospel of the day Matthew 7: 21. After service the vicar asked the clerk if he knew who the stranger was. "sir" said he, "he is the vagabond Wesley, of whom you warned us" Aye indeed," was the reply "we trapped; but never mind, we had a good sermon." The
Dean heard of the affair, and threatened to lay a complaint before the Archbishop. Mr. Cordeux, afraid of the consequences, took an early opportunity, when some occasion brought him into the presence of his grace, to tell him that he had allowed Mr. Wesley to occupy his pulpit. "and you did right," said that prelate. The matter of the complaint was never more heard of; and Mr. Cordeux was so far from repenting of what he had done, that some years afterwards he made a second offer of his pulpit, and Mr. Wesley preached upon the eight Beatitudes. An aged disciple, who was present on this occasion, says that Mr. Wesley took occasion to remark on the words "blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" "perhaps no man in
England knows more of what this means that I do" this seconds sermon, was preached in the morning of Sunday May 7th, 1786.
