Bobby Darin (born Walden Robert Cassotto; May 14, 1936 – December 20, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor of film and television. He performed in a range of music genres, including jazz, pop, rock'n'roll, folk, swing and country.
He started as a songwriter for Connie Francis, and recorded his own first million-seller "Splish Splash" in 1958. This was followed by "Dream Lover," "Mack the Knife," and "Beyond the Sea," which brought him world fame. In 1962, he won a Golden Globe Award for his first film Come September, co-starring his first wife, Sandra Dee.
Throughout the 1960s, he became more politically active and worked on Robert F. Kennedy's Democratic presidential campaign. He was present on the night of June 4/5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles at the time of Kennedy's assassination. The same year, he discovered that he had been brought up by his grandmother, not his mother, and that the girl he had thought to be his sister was actually his mother. These events deeply affected Darin and sent him into a long period of seclusion.
There are two articles for Canadian band The Poppy Family:
Darin may refer to
The Poppy Family were a successful Canadian pop music group, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. They were popular worldwide in the late 1960s and 1970s.
Seventeen-year-old Susan Pesklevits met Terry Jacks in the mid-1960s while she was a regular performer on the national teen TV show Music Hop as well as many other national TV shows. She later called Jacks to accompany her on rhythm guitar for one of her live performances and eventually, with the addition of Craig McCaw on lead guitar, although she continued to make solo television appearances, Susan decided to dedicate all her live performances to the newly formed trio. The name Poppy Family was chosen when Susan, Terry and Craig were searching for a new name and came across it in the dictionary. Susan and Terry were married in 1967 and Susan Pesklevits became Susan Jacks. Craig McCaw later introduced Satwant Singh on tablas and the Poppy Family's unique sound was complete.
With Susan Jacks on lead vocals, harmony vocals and percussion, Terry Jacks on rhythm guitar and occasional vocals, Craig McCaw on guitar/sitar and Satwant Singh on tablas/drums and other percussion, the group recorded their first album, from which came their international hit "Which Way You Goin' Billy?" (#1 in Canada, #1 in Cashbox and #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100). The album also produced "That's Where I Went Wrong" (#9 in Canada, #29 in the US). "Which Way You Goin' Billy?" and "That's Where I Went Wrong" were both Top 10 Adult Contemporary chart hits as well.
Terrence Ross "Terry" Jacks (born March 29, 1944, Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer and environmentalist, best known for his 1974 hit song "Seasons in the Sun".
Terry Jacks was born and raised in Winnipeg. His family relocated to Vancouver in the early 1960s. Jacks took up guitar in his teens and at 18 formed a band called The Chessmen with guitarist Guy Sobell. The group had four top-ten hits in Vancouver between 1964 and 1966.
Following The Chessmen, Terry and Susan Pesklevits (Susan Jacks), whom he later married, formed The Poppy Family along with Craig McCaw and Satwant Singh. They had several hits in Canada and internationally, their biggest being "Which Way You Goin' Billy?", which went to #1 in Canada and #2 on the Billboard charts in the U.S. The song was written and produced by Terry Jacks which earned him a Gold Leaf (Juno) award in 1970 for his production.
The song "Seasons in the Sun", released in late 1973 on his own record label, Goldfish Records, became the largest-selling international single by a Canadian artist at that time, eventually selling 14 million copies worldwide. It earned Jacks two Juno Awards and became one of the biggest selling Canadian Singles of all time.

'(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher' is a song originally recorded by Jackie Wilson in 1967. It became part of Bobby Darin's live set in the early seventies. Several recorded versions by Bobby Darin exist; to my knowledge, these are the only three which were videotaped. The first of them comes from a Canadian TV programme called 'The Darin Invasion', recorded in October 1970 (and released in the USA one year later). The second is from Bobby's own 1972 summer TV series, 'The Bobby Darin Amusement Company' (specifically, from the episode aired on 24th August). This programme was later turned into a regular series, called 'The Bobby Darin Show', starting in January 1973. Its last episode -Bobby Darin's last recorded performance- was aired on 27th April, and included the third of t...

Bobby Darin made his name in the 1950's with such hits as 'Queen of the Hop' and 'Splish Splash' before branching out into Films in the 1960's. After that he recorded intermittently and made personal appearances on tv. During his short career as a pop idol he demonstrated that he had the ability to take any material and transform it and make it distinctly Darinesque. A great talent who could have been so much more if he had lived to fulfil his full potential.

For his talent and versatility, his stage presence and drive, his timing, phrasing and intelligence. This is some footage of the unfinished documentary on Bobby's 1966 return to nightclub performing, which he had given up in 1963 to spend more time with Sandy and Dodd. In the meantime Bobby bought and successfully ran his own music publishing company. The session of "Weeping Willow" was recorded in Las Vegas on February 4, 1966. I hope this song will be released one day. At the end of this footage is a fantastic performance of "Some Of These Days".

Skip E. Lowe interviews the son of iconic legend Bobby Darin.
"Mary Avara" and "Bobby Darin" debate censorship and pornography on the Mike Douglas Show in 1970. "Mary Avara" was Born in Baltimore Maryland in 1910 to an Italian immigrant family with 17 brothers and sisters. Despite very little formal education, and the death of her husband in 1943, Mary became a political powerhouse and in 1960 was appointed by Governor J. Millard Tawes to the Maryland Motion Picture Censor Board. Her outspoken, common sense nature made her very popular with the national talk shows of the day including Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas. On several occasions, Mary happened to be a guest on the same show with Bobby Darin. This was their first encounter.

This is also my favorite Bobby Darin song EVER! *EDIT* I wanted to edit the ACTUAL video, but wasn't able to, because this video was made on a different computer! :-( But, anyway, thanks to liverpoolishgirl for reminding me that Sandy's birth year was actually 1944, not 1942, as is listed in this video and on her IMDb page. I totally forgot about that when I was making this video (as I am very apt to forget things! ;-D)! NOTE: All photos property of their respective owners. No copyright infringement is intended. During the mid-1960’s jazz music was changing towards “fusion” and “soul jazz” and the idiom of most post-bop jazz quartets and quintets changed as well. Rock and soul music has dominating the clubs and on radio and jazz music as a whole was reflecting the mood and times of the generation and listeners. Guitarists like Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, and Jim Hall were the masters at their game and created a voice and a distinctive technique style in their playing that gave way to the changes to what the 1960’s were to bring musically. The changing of the guard for jazz guitarists came when young and innovative musicians like Melvin Sparks, George Benson, and Pat Martino gave way to the new music trends that were part of the new jazz music taking shape. 2011 marks an important milestone for...

The vehicle was comedy and the humor took Pumpernickel from Union Street to Hollywood. We follow Sol from the Trentonian to writing jokes for Joe E. Lewis, Dean Martin, Bob Hope to writing scripts for sitcoms in the 1970's and 80's. It's not just comedy, that got Sol noticed, but also his songwriting ability. Note the segment on Bobby Darin and "The Curtain Falls".

We stand here today, together as one
You brighten my days,
just like the sun
When everything around,
is like stormy weather,
We always survive,
cause were in this together
Whoever said that we could never hold on,
And don't know how I found my star
(Baby you are my star)
And now I'm happy I stood up for so long
And baby this is where our story starts
I can't stop,
can't stop this love
No matter what they say,
I love you
I can't stop, can't stop,
I love you no matter what they say, I love you
They said this love was the impossible kind
But we were strong enough to fight for this life
I can't stop,
can't stop this love
No matter what they say,
I love you
Now i'm carried away because I've opened arms
You're here to stay,
deep in my heart
They said that we couldn't, but we did make it work
And nothing could stop us, not even two different worlds
Whoever said that we could never hold on,
And don't know how I found my star
(Baby you are my star)
And now I'm happy I stood up for so long
And baby this is where our story starts
I can't stop,

But we were strong enough to fight for this life

can't stop this love
No matter what they say,
I love you
I can't stop, stop,
No I can't stop
I can't stop, stop,
No I can't stop
I can't stop, stop,
No I can't stop
I can't stop,
can't stop this love
No matter what they say,
I love you
I can't stop, can't stop,
