Shatabdi Express trains are a series of fast (called superfast in India) passenger trains operated by Indian Railways to connect Metro cities with other cities important for tourism, pilgrimage or business. Shatabdi Express are day-trains and they return to the station of origin the same day.
The Shatabdis are among the fastest trains in India and the Indian Railways consider them as prestigious. The Shatabdi Express trains run over short to medium distances while the Rajdhani Expresses and the Duronto Expresses are long-distance trains. Rajdhani Expresses connect the nation's capital New Delhi to capitals of states and other major cities while Duronto Expresses connect connect major cities to other major cities. All three series of trains have a maximum speed of about 130 km/h (81 mph). The 12001 Bhopal Shatabdi express, however, runs at a peak speed of 150 km/h (93 mph), which makes it the fastest train in India.
The word "Shatabdi" means centenary in Sanskrit, Hindi and several Indian languages. The first Shatabdi train was started in 1988 to commemorate the centenary of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru's Birthday (the First Prime Minister of India) by Madhav Rao Scindia, minister for railways. It operated from New Delhi Railway Station to Jhansi Junction, later extended to Bhopal. It is now known as the Bhopal Shatabdi Express.
Express or EXPRESS may refer to:
Indian Railways (reporting mark IR) is an Indian state-owned enterprise, owned and operated by the Government of India through the Ministry of Railways. It is one of the world's largest railway networks comprising 115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 65,808 km (40,891 mi) and 7,112 stations. In 2014-15, IR carried 8.397 billion passengers annually or more than 23 million passengers a day (roughly half of whom were suburban passengers) and 1058.81 million tons of freight in the year. In 2014–2015 Indian Railways had revenues of ₹1634.50 billion (US$24 billion) which consists of ₹1069.27 billion (US$16 billion) from freight and ₹402.80 billion (US$5.9 billion) from passengers tickets.
Railways were first introduced to India in the year 1853 from Mumbai to Thane. In 1951 the systems were nationalised as one unit, the Indian Railways, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-gauge network of broad, metre and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities at several places in India and are assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of power and type of operation. Its operations cover twenty nine states and seven union territories and also provides limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Hitachi Class 800004 at Swindon during driver and guard training before EIS in October 2017. You will notice this IET is dispatched by the dispatcher and the guard, with the guards manager overlooking the process to see it goes smoothly. This is my first video with this featured, previous IET videos have been operated by GBRf for Hitachi testing the unit. This one is operated for GWR by GWR with a GWR driver, hence the reason it is being dispatched. Good to see an 800 in the sunshine too, not managed that yet in my 30 so attempts!

The new railway franchise South Western Railway launched on 20th August 2017 replacing South West Trains. SWR is co-owned by First Group who own GWR and MTR who operate the metro system in Hong Kong and used to co-operate London Overground with Arriva. However the new rail company is in dispute with some of their guards over their role as new trains are introduced as they're designed to be operated by the driver. New Delhi - Mathura : Super busy stretch of Indian Railways. Also, the Semi High Speed zone of India. The morning was cold enough to make me feel pain in my fingers and even my toes which were covered by shoes. Even rubbing my hands could not benefit much. Only the sun could help when it got higher in the sky. Jan 14, 2017

The trip was originally designed to capture twin Alcos - Monday evenings witness two back-to-back twin Alcos on the Surat-Vasai stretch - the Rajkot Secunderabad Express and the Okha Ernakulam Express. After viewing the magnificent combinations from Kazipet and Ernakulam respectively, I headed back to Bombay on the Ahmedabad Shatabdi. This compilation focuses on the this latter segment, covering the Shatabdi's journey through the Western Railway suburban section between Virar and Bombay Central. Enjoy the rapid skips of Virar and Vasai, followed by a sedate run between Borivalli and Bandra, after which the Shatabdi really sprints till Mahalaxmi. The evening sights and sounds of central Bombay and Bandra are captured, along with the busy suburban action as the packed fast locals keep whizzi...
Seen in video is what I call Lion of Western Railways : 12009/Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express hauled by Vadodara [BRC] WAP-5 #30069 skips Vishwamitri at moderate speed moving towards its next scheduled halt of Vadodara Junction [BRC] a few minutes late of its schedule. Railfan Shreejay Parmar can be seen in action as well. Thanks to LP for that acknowledging honk. The reason behind calling this train Lion of WR is, though it is not the fastest train between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad but it is very popular among travelers, railfans and gets the highest patronage in its run. 12009/Mumbai Central- Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express travels 493 km in 6h 45m with 7 halts at an average speed of 73 km/hr. 12009 Shatabdi Express leaves Mumbai Central every day excluding Sundays at 06:25 hrs...
This video is property of Train_PlaneHub, "RachaelMatt" 1080p HD! On Thursday 24th September a case of being in the right place at the right time lead us to catch our first look and ride upon the first ever refurbished GWR HST set! After hearing that it was operating the 10:00 from Paddington to Paignton via Bristol we slightly altered our plans to get a ride on it. At the time of filming this was the only refurbished out, so it was very unique and certainly turned a few heads at Reading and Bristol! Personally I think the new livery looks great and nice to see the Great Western railway returning to Green. The days of the blue & pink FGW sets are now numbered! Look out for more of these beautiful GWR sets out & about in the future! Leave me a comment, what do you think of the new GWR ...

Documentary following the staff, passengers and police officers on the railways in and around Leeds during summer. This is the most challenging season for staff, when binge drinkers, cable thieves and trespassers all threaten to delay the trains. For driver Jason, driving the trains on the 'Real Ale Trail', a pub crawl by train, is the most dreaded shift of the week as drunken party-goers fill his carriages and begin to stumble across the tracks to catch their trains but the real- alers think of it all as harmless fun. Elsewhere, when a teenager is killed after trespassing on the track, British Transport Police officer Craig has the difficult task of breaking the news to the boy's mother. To add to the challenges for the staff running the trains in and out of Leeds, it is the wettest su...

Swindon railway works was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1843 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. It served as the principal west England maintenance centre until closed in 1986. The future of the works had been defined by the GWR's post-WW2 choice to develop its new diesel powered experimental locomotives using diesel-hydraulic transmission systems over diesel-electric. As a result, from 1957 the works produced 38 "Warship" class D800s and 30 Western class D1000s. However, early diesel production had followed previous steam locomotive construction strategy, resulting in numerous classes with short production runs and a resultant high maintenance cost in traffic. With the Beeching Axe strategy of reshaping BR towards inter-city traffic, the need for many of these new diesel powered cl...
This programme takes a look at some of the thousands of steam engines operated by the G.W.R until nationalisation in 1948. The G.W.R arguably produced many of the finest locos ever built, and many are preserved. The programme includes the prolific Hall Class, featuring Raveningham Hall and Owsden Hall, the Castle Class, Nunney Castle, and several preserved examples of the Manor Class. Steam locos from the Severn Valley, West Somerset, and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railways, as well as the main line are all included in this programme.
Enjoy yet another compilation of the Roller Coasting Trains raising like huge Snakes over the super monster gradients , something which is not commonly found across all parts of the Indian Railways. These gradients are largely found in the Deccan plateau where the terrain is extremely rough and uneven. The South Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways stands top when it comes to these Monster Gradients how ever the average speed of Trains in the Zone takes a major dip due to the unavailability of flat straight lines. The freight trains especially require High Horse Powered Locomotives to work efficiently in these terrains, most of the freight trains here are operated by EMD's either Single or Double depending on the load they need to carry for sufficient braking and to avoid Wheel ...

Fog Effects - Trains running late by days: Since, trains are being late now-a-days, with the intent of capturing some popular South bound trains, visited the NDLS - MTJ section. I was planning to visit on Sunday since a couple of days before, but checked the status of GT and TN and they were cancelled for Sunday (those to reach NDLS on Sunday). Then I found that the GT Express scheduled to reach NDLS on Friday and Saturday were delayed by 2 days and 1 day respectively. I got almost sure that they will delay by few more hours so that I can capture them in day light. Luckily they didn't get too delayed to arrive in the night (as last time) except Tamil Nadu Express. In addition to these, got to capture many other popular trains as well. Also, witnessed an unusual event of an Express train o...
