Sir Arthur John Evans (Nash Mills, 8 de julio de 1851 -- Boar Hill, 11 de julio de 1941).
Evans estudió en las universidades de Oxford y Gotinga y realizó varias excavaciones en Italia, Escandinavia y los Balcanes, antes de lanzarse a la búsqueda del palacio de Cnosos en Creta. Pretendía con ello descubrir la civilización anterior a la micénica, la de la leyenda del rey Minos. Entre los años 1900-1906 desenterró el llamado Palacio de Cnosos, que relacionó por su construcción laberíntica con el Palacio de Minos, por lo que dio a sus hallazgos la denominación genérica de civilización minoica. Reconstruyó las pinturas del palacio en un acto bastante polémico, pues las repintó con colores fuertes.
Además del palacio encontró ricos hallazgos, entre los que destacan 3.000 tablillas de arcilla con dos tipos de escrituras diferentes conocidas como lineal A y lineal B (la primera aún sin descifrar, la última un primitivo dialecto griego).

Arthur C. Evans Jr, Ph.D. is the Commissioner of Philadelphia's Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). He is a clinical and community psychologist and holds a faculty appointment at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He held faculty appointments at the Yale University School of Medicine and Quinnipiac University.

Sir Arthur John Evans FRS (8 July 1851 – 11 July 1941) was a British archaeologist most famous for unearthing the palace of Knossos on the Greek island of Crete and for developing the concept of Minoan civilization from the structures and artifacts found there and elsewhere throughout the eastern Mediterranean. Evans was the first to define Cretan scripts Linear A and Linear B, as well as an earlier pictographic writing.
Along with Heinrich Schliemann, Evans was a pioneer in the study of Aegean civilization in the Bronze Age. The two men knew of each other. Evans visited Schliemann's sites. Schliemann had planned to excavate at Knossos, but died before fulfilling that dream. Evans bought the site and stepped in to take charge of the project, which was then still in its infancy. He continued Schliemann's concept of Mycenaean civilization but soon found that he needed to distinguish another civilization, the Minoan.
In addition to his archaeological contributions, Evans fulfilled a role in the British Empire for which there is no proper word in formal English. Although he was not a professional statesman or soldier, and was probably never a paid agent of the government, he nevertheless negotiated or played a role in negotiating unofficially with foreign powers in the Middle East. The Ottoman Empire, and subsequently the Turkish Republic, recognized this role, according to him informally the status of an ambassador. He was, on request of the revolutionary organizations of the peoples of the Balkans, a significant player in the formation of the now-defunct nation of Yugoslavia. That nation sent representatives to his funeral in 1941. This role was one outcome of the informal network of associations created by the 19-century British educational system, of which Arthur was, so to speak, a charter member.

Hal Offen, a good friend, traveled to NYC from San Francisco to share his memories of Arthur Evans, both political & personal, with Arthur's admirers & friends who gathered for a memorial service there. This is an amazing historical tribute told in a most entertaining & meaningful way. I posted the last few minutes, "Amazing Grace - Gay Satire", separately. Egyptian Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said a terrorist attack was more likely to have taken down the missing EgyptAir aircraft early Thursday morning rather than technical failure, Gulf News Egypt reported.
