Put everything on the desk.::Arlo Guthrie: I can understand you wanting our wallets, so we don't have any money to spend in the cell, but what do you want our belts for?::Officer Obie: Kid, we don't want any hanging.::Arlo Guthrie: [pause] Obie, do you think we're gonna hang ourselves for littering?
Arlo Guthrie: Just what I've always wanted.::Alice Brock: A restaurant?::Arlo Guthrie: No, a friend with a restaurant.
Alice Brock: Take off those handcuffs!::Officer Obie: You're interfering in the performance of my duties.::Alice Brock: You're a meathead - haven't you play-acted cop enough for one day?::Officer Obie: This side is reserved for officers of the law and criminals.::Alice Brock: Pig-eyed idiot!::Officer Obie: Alice, I've had enough garbage for one day, yours and theirs.::Alice Brock: Stupid bastard!::Officer Obie: Alice...::Alice Brock: Cradle hopper!::Officer Obie: Alice!::Alice Brock: Turkey raper!
Arlo Guthrie: Obie, when do we get our bread and water?::Officer Obie: Shut up, kid.

Woody Guthrie’s songs gave direction and purpose to a generation of songwriters in the 1950s and 1960s, and they continue to move millions of people today. “This Land Is Your Land” has become an alternate national anthem! In this 101 minute lesson, Fred Sokolow teaches you how to play backup and solos to ten of Woody’s best, including “Pastures of Plenty,” “So Long It’s Been Good to Know Yuh,” “Bound For Glory,” “Deportees,” “Do Re Mi,” “Philadelphia Lawyer,” “Oklahoma Hills,” “My Daddy Flies,” “Hard Travelin’,” and “Pretty Boy Floyd.” It’s a great lesson in fingerpicking, as well as an intro to some moving, classic tunes from America's legendary poet/songwriter. Fred makes it easy to learn, with split-screen, slowed down versions of the songs and helpful hints about the licks and picking styles. All the songs are written out in tab and music notation in the PDF file that comes with the lesson.

This rare segment of BBC Radio's Children's Hour features a brief interview with folk singer Woody Guthrie. He recorded "The Wabash Cannonball" and "900 Miles" for this broadcast.
Woody was a Merchant Marine, washing dishes on a Liberty Ship, the troop ship Sea Porpoise which carried troops to the Normandy beach in early July 1944. After the troops were sent ashore, the ship hit a mine but made its way back to England; Woody was routed through London toward Glasgow, Scotland, toward the United States. On a song manuscript dated "July 13th, 1944", Woody wrote, "this train is carrying me outside from London now; on up towards Belfast, and Glasgow."
While in London, he went to the offices of the BBC where he introduced himself as a member of The Martins and the Coys and was given the opportunity to sing on the Children's Hour. After an autobiographical statement, he was recorded singing with his guitar accompaniment two railroad songs.

Woody Guthrie Roll on Columbia The Columbia River Collection (1941) www.woodyguthrie.org Lyrics: Roll on, Columbia, roll on
Roll on, Columbia, roll on
Your power is turning our darkness to dawn
So roll on, Columbia, roll on
Green Douglas firs where the waters cut through
Down her wild mountains and canyons she flew
Canadian Northwest to the oceans so blue
Roll on Columbia, roll on
Other great rivers add power to you
Yakima, Snake, and the Klickitat, too
Sandy Willamette and Hood River too
So roll on, Columbia, roll on
Tom Jefferson's vision would not let him rest
An empire he saw in the Pacific Northwest
Sent Lewis and Clark and they did the rest
So roll on, Columbia, roll on
It's there on your banks that we fought many a fight
Sheridan's boys in the blockhouse that night
They saw us in death but never in flight
So roll on Columbia, roll on
At Bonneville now there are ships in the locks
The waters have risen and cleared all the rocks
Shiploads of plenty will steam past the docks
So roll on, Columbia, roll on
And on up the river is Grand Coulee Dam
The mightiest thing ever built by a man
To run the great factories and water the land
So roll on, Columbia, roll on
These mighty men labored by day and by night
Matching their strength 'gainst the river's wild flight
Through rapids and falls, they won the hard fight
So roll on, Columbia, roll on

The BPA needed a folksinger to promote the benefits of building dams to produce cheap electricity. Guthrie, and his wife and 3

A TRIBUTE TO WOODY GUTHRIE PART2
「ウディ・ガスリー・メモリアル・コンサート・パート2」── こずえさんと私からのアルバム紹介であります。
I'd like to recommend you all to listen to this excellent album, because it's very impressive, touching, and moving. The sound was taken from my old original vinyl LP through my old player, so it's bad sound quality. If you want to listen to this wonderful album clearly, I'd recommend getting good sound from the CD.

The descriptions below are excerpts from the liner note inside the LP jacket released in 1974.
When Woody Guthrie died on October 3, 1967, after a stubborn fifteen year bout with Huntingson's Disease, a lot of people who had known him, worked with him, or just sung his songs felt a spontaneous desire to do something. Not a memorial──nothing about Woody suggested mourning. What was called for was more a celebration of Woody's work, the part of him that lives on.
A "Tribute to Woody Guthrie" was planned for two performances at Carnegie Hall on January 20, 1968, sponsored by The Guthrie Children's Trust Fund with the proceeds to the donated Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease.
On September 12, 1970, another Tribute was held at the Hollywood Bowl. The concert was sponsored by the California chapter of the Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease. Some 18,000 people jammed the amphiltheatre.
Except for the technical and stage crews, all the performing artists and the production staff donated their talents. Millard Lampell, who years back was a member of the "Almanac Singers" along with Woody, directed the concerts from a script he wove out of Woody's songs and writings. Harold Leventhal produced the New York and Hollywood Bowl concerts. Production Assistants were Terry Sullivan and Woody's wife, Marjorie Guthrie.
All performing artists have waived royalties, and the recordings have been issued at cost. Proceeds go to the newly created non-profit WOODY GUTHRIE TRIBUTE FUND. This Fund will be used to create a Woody Guthrie Library at his birthplace in Okemah, Oklahoma; also to further medical research into the causes and cures of Huntington's Disease, and to create a Woody Guthrie scholarship in folklore and folk music.

Woody Guthrie was every inch the mythical American Folk hero - a man who crossed the continent as a hobo, jumping freight trains etc, putting his observations into ballads full of social significance. He articulated the plight of the ordinary man in 20th century America in music, and his legend lives on. The legend on his guitar back in 1943 that boasted 'This Machine Kills Fascists' has passed into mythology with successive generations of singers adapting it for their own personal messages. Featured here on the comprehensive 100 track compilation are almost every song he ever recorded.

111 Coal Miners Killed
Music: Dying Miner written by Woody Guthrie which is tribute to those affected by the Centralia Coal Mine Disaster.
THIS DISASTER CAN NEVER BE FORGOTTEN...
This video is IN MEMORY to those families affected by this terrible disaster - but is dedicated to Pete & Josie Ballantini. Pete along with his brother Joe, were both killed.
This new video was created to accompany my daughter's 7th Grade Illinois History Fair Presentation Exhibit in 2012 which was on the Centralia Coal Mine No. 5 ~ The Disaster No One Stopped.... We went more in depth with this video than what we did with the previous video that my son created several years ago for his exhibit. We also tried to identify and name as many people in the video as a tribute to their families...
We would like to thank everyone that we interviewed and that took the time to help us with ALL the research on this project.
IN MEMORY of all those 111 coal miners killed...
