There is some more information here on the Society, including how to join.
Or you can read a short biography of DLS.
If you are interested in discussing the works of (or anything else about) DLS, there are several very good places to start (apart from this site, of course!). In fact, there are so many good places around that we’ve put links on a page of their own. If you know of any useful links to other pages which are relevant to DLS, her life, works, or indeed anything else vaguely related, please let us know.
If you have a question about DLS or her works, please ask us.
If what you find on this site encourages you to join, please mention that you found us on the Net when you write in.
We’re also on Facebook and Twitter if social media is your thing!
NEWS:
(Don’t forget to check our News page for details of forthcoming events, including “stop-press” entries which have arrived since the latest Bulletin!)
29 April 2015: RIP Dr Barbara Reynolds ✝
It is with sadness that The Dorothy L Sayers Society passes on the news of the death of our President Dr Barbara Reynolds. She was just a little over 6 weeks away from her 101st birthday.
Her remarkable intelligence and presence, and her many contributions to and support for The Dorothy L Sayers Society are well and lovingly remembered. Barbara was a distinguished Italian scholar, lexicographer, translator, and author of a study on Dante. She edited Dorothy L Sayers’ letters and wrote a biography − Dorothy L Sayers: Her Life and Soul. Barbara completed Sayers’ translation of “Paradiso” from Dante’s Divine Comedy (left incomplete at Sayers’ death), and wrote The Passionate Intellect, a study on Sayers and the Dante translation. Barbara Reynolds was Dorothy L Sayers’ god-daughter. Barbara will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are now with her family.
25 January 2015: RIP Canon John Thurmer ✝ We regret to inform members of the death of a very long-standing member and supporter of the Society, Canon John Thurmer. There are more details here and here.
27 November 2014: RIP P.D.James ✝ It is with sadness, but also with gratitude for her many kindnesses and her unflagging support of the Dorothy L Sayers Society, that we give the news of the death this morning of our Patron P D James, Baroness James of Holland Park.
SEVEN: An Anglo-American Literary Review Volume 29 is now available, and all other volumes are available for order direct from the Marion E Wade Center in Wheaton.
The Lord Peter Wimsey Companion: The Third (Online) Edition of The Lord Peter Wimsey Companion is available exclusively to members of the Society, so if you have been waiting for the LPWC and are not yet a member, why not join now and start using it straight away!
Stocks of the Second Edition, the last printed book edition, ran out several years ago. Please note that the Society has no plans to reprint it, or to produce any future edition in printed form, since the online format allows updates to be handled much more satisfactorily. Copies of both First and Second Editions may be available on the second-hand market, although be warned that they are often sold at massively inflated prices.
Archives ordering procedure. We have introduced some changes to the procedure for ordering items from the Society Archives, to reflect the latest advice on matters of copyright, and to allow us to respond more quickly to what has unfortunately become a regular increase in postal charges. For more details see here.
Credit card payment is available online for membership subscriptions and for some other items. Please see here for the options which are available for new and existing members for payment of subscriptions, and the publications page where many of the items have links for online payment.
